Marinada is in an area well away from the main centre of Cambrils, adjacent to the main road which divides the old and the new town. If you need to be close to where most of the shops and restaurants are located, then you may find the 10 to 15 minute walk a bit too far - especially in the dark or if it's raining. There are a few places to shop and eat close by - think along the lines of corner stores and snack-bar/cafes - but for everything else, including the marina and the beach, it's a fair distance. If you have a car, you should also be aware that finding a parking space can be an absolute nightmare - 10 minutes driving around is quite normal. Without a car, however, the main railway station is very well located just a couple of minutes walk away.
The hotel itself is situated down a side street surrounded by residential properties and looks fairly decent from the outside. Once inside, the public areas, though somewhat sparse, are clean and fairly well presented in a functional sort of way. The couple running Marinada were friendly enough and were happy to help by providing maps, etc - but in other ways seemed rather inflexible. Breakfast was served between 08.30 and 12.00 - and they were not prepared to either make it any earlier, or perhaps leave some cold food somewhere so that guests could help themselves. Although included in the room rate breakfast was barely adequate, consisting as it did of orange juice, tea or coffee, a cake or croissant, and 2 slices of toast accompanied by a slice of cheese, a slice of luncheon meat and a slice of salami. There was no other choice as far as I am aware.
The room was clean and functional - but, on arrival, neither the heating system nor the television was working properly. On request both were fixed quite quickly - but we never did understand why the patio doors to the balcony were always left unlocked after the room had been cleaned, or why on one occasion the fresh towels were damp. Internal noise is an issue and conducts around the building - you are likely to hear your fellow guests when they enter or leave their room and when they shower or flush the loo, etc.
Marinada does offer reasonable value for money - indeed, it's probably best suited to those on a budget who are looking to pay a bit less. However, if I'm in the area again, I'd rather pay a little bit more to be in a better location, with better on-site facilities. As the old saying goes - 'you pays your money and you takes your choice'!
