We took our 2 grandsons aged 3 and 6 here for a week on 28th May. The hotel itself is nice and clean and we had a nice room overlooking the pool. This had 2 double beds and there was plenty of room for us all.
The food in the restaurant was good and they often had a man on the grill station at lunch and in the evenings. Plus freshly made pancakes in the morning which the boys loved. Plenty of cold meat and salad to choose from then options of hot meat, fish, veg and off course chips! The drinks are brought on a waiter service and there is wine by the bottle if you want and you can keep for the next meal, San Miguel beer plus sangria. We went for a small jug each meal and that was just enough for 2 glassses each. The one thing that we noticed was there were a lot of Russians and one evening the fresh fruit stand had strawberries on it. Well you'd think they'd never seen one before in their lives as they were pushing young children out the way to get them. They would walk into the restuarant, fill a large plate full and put them down, then have their meals, then just pick at a few strawberries and leave nearly a full plate to go to waste. Somebody needs say that you eat what's on your plate, then go for another course as they would get all their food in one go, have a huge amount of food on the table going cold then leave it. Just wasteful.
The pool is very good and in a figure 8 which slopes slowly to about 1 metre so great for kids then the other end is the deep end. There is also a small round childrens pool about knee high which our boys loved. they met others about their age and this just turned into a family creche everyday. The beach bar is great and the boys loved the strawberry lollies and chocolate milk that was on offer. Plus they also do snacks in the day during the time the restaurant is closed. We can recommend the cheese and ham toasties.
The hotel is only 1 block from the beach and this takes about 2 minutes to walk. The beach is clean and safe as there is only a walkway running past and no cars are able to come close so very safe if kids run off. You can go for a nice evening walk along the prom and there are small childrens play areas every half a mile or so, which is great as they can run around and you can have a rest after all the food. The hotel has bus stops right outside and its easy to jump on a bus and go into Salou or the other way to Cambrils. The fare is about 1.5 euros each and children under 4 are free. If you want to go to Port Aventura then you can get a bus direct and it only takes about 20 minutes and drops you off right outside the door.
Salou is nice and you have to go see the fountains at the weekend. We loved Cambrils as there are lots of small restaurants along the front and many of these had locals in, whch is always a good sign. Cambrils is not so touristy so a very nice place to go as an opposite to Salou.
All in all this is a great hotel and we had a wonderful all inclusive holiday but the one area that let it down was the entertainament. They said there was a chidren's mini disco from 8.30pm but this didn't usually start until after 9pm. By then most of the kids were shattered as they would just run around waiting for the start. When it did start there wasn't much done with the kids just a few dances and that was it. Then there was a wait until around 10ish for the entertainment to start and this was nothing spectacular. One night it was acrobats and another was African dancers and the kids were bored watching. One night was bingo which took all night as they called the numbers out in Spanish, then English, then German and lastly Russian. The entertainment then is the main area that the hotel was let down. Apart from that, we had a great time in the sun and the kids loved it.
We booked this through Thomas Cook and the only complaint I have with them is the transfer to the hotel. The airport at Reus is not far from Salou and when we boarded the bus it was all adults except for us and another couple with 2 boys. When we set off we went into Salou first and dropped off all the adults at their hotels and eventually our hotel was the second to last drop. So even though it was about a 20 minute journey, We were on the bus for well over an hour and the boys were tired so why we couldn't have been the first drop off as we had children I don't know. It would have been easier and lets stressful as this is a family themed holiday. The other couple got off at our hotel and said the same thing. Also coming home we were the second pick up so we were on the coach for over an hour back to the airport as we had to go through Salou again.
Would I go again, yes but only with the children. Would i recommend this, yes I would and also on the AI option. The hotel is clean, safe and the staff are pleasant so if you're going, have a nice time.
