We visited Amaika hotel at lunchtime on our 2nd day at Calella. We had booked into Calella Palace and it was awful. We went to see the Manager at Amaika who was charm itself. We explained how we were desperate to move hotels and he managed to find a room for us. The rooms were lovely and the restaurant superb. The food was very good and the restaurant was immaculately clean, as was the rest of the hotel. Yes, the Pool area is quite small and of course you get the usual problem with people placing their towels on the sunbeds first thing in the morning but you are so near the beach it really isn't that much of a problem. Although I went with my friend and our two teenage sons (15), I thought the entertainment was very good. The youngsters (ie from about 3 - 12) loved the entertainment, there was something different every night. Calella resort is very pleasant for just wondering around looking at all the usual touristy shops. The beach is very good however there is quite a drop into the sea so not ideal for very young children. We ate out quite a lot and I can honestly say we did not have one bad meal and the food was incredibly reasonable. I promise if you stay at this hotel you will not be disappointed.
