“Good Apartments for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We arrived at the apartments around 2am, everything was dark and we seemed to be in the middle of no-where with nothing to be seen. When we went to bed we couldnt sleep with the water (atlantic ocean waves) down below (despite been on the 7th floor) room 715. But we got used too after 2-3 days and it became normal. I dont really have anything else to fault about these apartments.

We stayed 11 nights and really enjoyed every moment. The sea is nice by day, although its called Balito beach, there is no beach as such only rocks.. but if you walk along the path near the hotel after going down 70 steps you will reach nice beaches within 10 mins. and there is nice night shows every night at around 9pm. for 30mins.

The kitchen has everything you need, toaster, kettle, microwave, pots and pans, plates, cups, glasses etc... The TV however in our room has only spanish channels with 1 norwegian channel and one other foreign channel I dont know if its dutch or german. But who comes on holidays to watch tv anyways :)

Buses from the hotel... Are all outside the receiption... cost to nearest towns is 1.40euro single per person. Taxis are around 4-6 euro. depending on time and distance. Buses go to almost everywhere in the island from outside the door and are every 20mins, up until 10pm when they are every hour then, till 2.30am. none between 2.30 and 6.00am

There is a supermarket in hotel next to Receipton but I didnt go.. Prices are very high. I would reccommend going to a local village 10mins by bus called Arguineguin, There is a Spar on the main road, and prices are very cheap, less than half you would pay in the hotel.. (and similiar to tesco/sainsbury´s) in U.K.

The cleaner comes every day except Sunday and Tuesday. She only changed our sheets once during our 11 nights, but did change the towels every 2 days.

There is no air conditioning, but there is no real need for it.. If you anyways hot you only need to open the window, ,, as your looking into the atlantic basically. But dont depend on your clothes to dry instantly... its very humid and the clothes sometimes can take up to 3 days to dry fully.

When we stayed there 13-24 July.. Hotel guests were 85% Spanish guests and Im sure you know that Spanish can be quite noisy ... so be warned if you want peace and quiet. But it is July and schoolchildren are on holidays. Most people were also families and very little if any couples.

There is no - night time enterntainment whatsoever. so you need to leave hotel at night...

I would come back to this hotel for sure.. and highly reccommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms on coast near Atlantic ocean can be very noisy with the waves against rocks, difficult to slee...

the beach was a nightmare and the apartment did not have the things promised as standard and reception were not interested when you complained. took 3 toasters before one worked and the apartment door was extremely difficult to open. the bath was pathetic as it was peeling badly.they do not cater for brits because the tv is for norwegians swedes etc.
the minimarket has very limited stock and specialises in selling milk past its sell by date.
the walk to anfi is at least 15 minutes and you feel as if you are walking into a different world and as timeshare owners you appreciate the difference between the two resorts.
we found the food at the restauant very good but the hike up the stairs to it was something else.

Room Tip: have a room close to reception so you do not have the excessive climbing to do if you are forced to...

I stayed here with my family in february 2009. (It's not on the list.) As you can see, it's a very big complex. We had a quiet room with a beautiful view. Our room was near the pool area, it was always pretty crowded. On top of the mainbuilding, there is a spa for the guests, that was very nice.

If you don't have a rented car and if you don't want to take a taxi all the time, I recommend that you stay in the mainbuilding. Or else it's a long walk to your room, when you get home, tired in the eveing. - And there's no lift in the second building neither. (Lift in the first one, is only from 3. floor and up. All in all, I don't recommend the place if you don't have a car/go by taxi. You can't just walk to all the restaurants or the beach.
The bus stops just outside the complex, which is near to Puerto Rico.

It was a nice stay, in a standard hotel.

we have just arrived home from spending one week at balito beach, its true to say that you et what you pay for,The receptionist was very helpful and friendlyhe couldnt do enough for us. After having been there for 1day we though how quiet it was, only to dicover that in actual fact we were the only 2 people on the resort, honestly for the size of the complex we had it all to ourselves, cool? you would have thought so. The apartment itself was clean, tidy, basic with a fantastic view and in all the time we were there we saw only 1 cockroach, hey thats good!there was no restaurant open, the shop was empty of stock except water or juice, but we had the new renovated pool to ourselves, now that was heaven!!on reflection it isnot the worst place in the world, and anfi del mar is just around the corner, and should you choose too eat out go to anfi and eat at the tex mex, and tell ALFIE that the scots send there love, one last thing we did try the telly and all we got was spanish channels, but hey who wants to watch telly when on holiday, as I said before you get what you pay for ,its not as bad as some of the reviews Ive read, very friendlystaff and your holiday is what you make of it, so would we go back probably not, we will put down to lifes experience

This hotell is a cheap alternative to the nearby Anfi Del Mar. But at the same time we were enjoying the beach at Anfi, which after my personal opinion is the best at Gran Canaria. It was quite warm in our rooms, and no aircondition. And the rooms were OK. Not great, but you get what you pay for... But if you are like me, you don`t travel to Gran Canaria to stay in your hotel room all day long... The rooms were clean.

Balito Beach doesn't have a beach. It consists of a main hotel block set on a rocky shoreline with an area of scrub land next to it (this is the beach - it resembles the sort of car park you get in towns when they have just demolished ghetto housing and decided to call it a car park until they can decide what to do with it) and a seperate area of apartments built on a cliff top - many with spectacular views. If you walk around the bay to the left of the hotel you will come to a lovely timeshare complex with man-made beach, bars and restaurants etc.
The main problem with the place is the food. It really is the worst I've ever encountered anywhere in the world. All meals are buffet style. There are usually 3 or 4 choices such as chicken nuggets, meat balls, pasta, chips, fried fish full of bones and some form of stew which may have been rabbit. All of this food was kept warm by means of vats of boiling water under metal tins - the result was that everything was soggy. There was also a salad bar which was left open to the elements so that flies gratefully shared your choice of salad. The ice cream bar was empty for 12 out of our 14 days stay.
Our room was adequate although the sliding door to the balcony didn't slide and had to be shoved open. Outside there was a 2-inch gap above the sliding door - a wooden wedge had been hammered in to hold the door in place.
Next the "Supermarket". Not so super. Very limited stock - if you were staying self-catering (I wish we had) there was not enough variety to feed a family sufficiently. Also do not believe the sign which says "open all day 8 till 8" on the supermarket window as it closed for 4 hours every afternoon.
In a similar vein posters by reception boast of "entertainment and dancing every night". Perhaps I missed it but I never noticed anything like that.
"Sky Sports" in the pool bar was also slighlty exagerated. I went to watch a football match one night and the "pool bar" was shut and there were builders drilling everywhere. The manager assured me I could watch it on my TV in my room - this was also totally untrue of course as we only had German or Spanish stations.
The pool was packed and dirty and unpleasant.
Overall, apart from the view, this is an awful place to stay.

Room Tip: Book Self Catering

We paid £126 for a week’s stay for two adults, which I found to be amazing value.
The apartment was very clean and the sea view was superb. We wanted to be close to Anfi so we could visit family so the location was excellent although it was only 3-4 euros for a taxi into Puerto Rico.
We found the reception staff very helpful, they even printed off some tickets for free.
We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food.
