Spent a (sadly, not particularly sunny) week here earlier this month. We'd never been to the Canary Islands before and fancied a short haul somewhere different so decided on Fuerteventura. Spent a lot of time on Tripadvisor researching between this hotel and Riu Tres Islas and am glad we chose the Gran Hotel Atlantis as it suited us perfectly. Yes, there are some unsightly unfinished buildings adjacent to the hotel but once you're inside the hotel, they are not really an issue. A 20 minute walk into Corralejo town/harbour or a 3-4 euro cab ride from the taxi rank directly outside. The hotel is beautifully designed and once inside, it really is very luxurious. Whilst you cannot access the sea from the beach infront of the hotel due to the rocks, there is a free shuttle bus to and from the Grandes Playas (where the Riu is located) so you can avail yourself of all that golden sand and a swim in the lovely clear water. (Be prepared for a fair number of naked people). We were only on B&B so ate out most evenings in town where there are places to suit all tastes and budgets. The choice at breakfast was extensive, from Cava to a bespoke smoothie station, smoked salmon to pickled herrings. Food in Las Palmeras Beach Club was delicious and room service menu was also good. We had a fabulous sea view room and ate on the balcony several times enjoying the views of the surfers riding the waves. At night, the sound of the surf crashing on the rocks was wonderful. I always insist on a sea view where available and the Maldives aside, we have never been able to hear the sea so audibly as we did here. Kettle and teabags etc are provided upon request. The hotel was quiet - only 45% full - which we were very happy about. Always a choice of sunbed around the pool or on the beach and the fabulous spa, where we spent many relaxing hours, was barely used! The 'easy listening' evening entertainment wasn't quite our "cup of tea" but as we were heading into town most evenings, this wasn't an issue. Staff were all excellent, grounds were immaculate and we would most certainly return - if just for the comfortable beds (great pillow menu) and to fall asleep to the sound of the crashing surf.
