If you like good food, a comfortable room and inviting pool then the Corralejo Beach Hotel is NOT for you. The first room we were offered was on the ground floor, and more like a prison cell with rusted bars on the windows and no escape should there be a fire in the corridor.
The temptation to get ourselves arrested and imprisoned in the police station adjacent to the hotel was very attractive indeed.
The second room smelt like there was a serious drain problem in the bathroom where you had to hold your breath every time you entered. The bedroom wasn’t much better, with damp smelling furniture and a stench like something had crawled into the air con vents and died. Even if you opened the patio door it never went away and you dreaded going back to the room because of it. The beds were two singles with springs poking through and impossible to get a good night’s sleep on. We complained about this and they gave us foam mattress covers which improved things.
Our room was on a side street which was noisy all night long with drunken revellers, then there were the deliveries and bin lorries for the restaurant opposite at 5am which made it a totally sleepless night. We could have closed the windows completely and minimised the noise, but the stink would have overpowered us. So, North facing rooms noisy, West facing are on the main street which must be REALLY noisy, South facing have bars on the windows. Take your pick, or your ear plugs……
Never mind, there was always breakfast to look forward to ….. wrong…in all the years I have spent travelling and staying in hotels, this had to be the WORST food I have ever seen or tasted. The cheapest of ingredients all round, lots of fried items, and totally disgusting. We did our best to sit furthest away from the “friary” so as our clothes didn’t smell like fish & chips the rest of the day. The hot offerings were barely luke warm, and we had to set the table ourselves several times. Often there were no clean plates, and the “fruit juice” was just watered down squash. We took the safer option of bread rolls for breakfast. Dinner was even worse - so bad that we ate out a couple of nights, which is annoying having paid half board.
The pool area consisted of dirty old tables, sun loungers with horribly stained covers and a pool with floating debris and clumps of hair – we gave this a total bodyswerve all week, preferring the beaches!
Beach towels could be hired for 20 euros deposit each, and the room safe was an extra daily charge in addition to putting down a deposit. Most 4 stars would have this as complimentary.
WiFi was available but not in the rooms, just reception and the pool area.
This has been the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to stay in and will never return EVER!
Go there at your peril - it doesn’t even deserve one star.
Alternatively, should you wish to audition for the Jeremy Kyle show, then a week here would stand you in good stead…..
Stay at a different hotel.
