“Getting more average every visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We've been here three times now and have noticed subtle changes each time we've stayed, all retrograde steps i hasten to add!

Location - The hotel is situated in a fantastic location, right on a national park dune field next to the sea. Cant be faulted, great scenery
Rooms - stayed in a hotel room this time, rather than an annexe room. They're a little smaller, quite tired, but if you are high up (we were on the 7th floor overlooking the pool), then magnificent views from your balcony with a sea view are had.
Food - food generally good. Main buffet restaurant a little stressful at times with too many people barging their way around. It was like the start of world war III at the toasting machine each morning. The Chinese restaurant is our favourite; very good.
Pool Area - quite crowded near the main pool. Avoid school holidays as the kids were annoyingly noisy when we were there.
Sun Loungers in pool area - guess which nationality were getting up at 5am (yes 5am!) to reserve their sun-loungers? No cigar for getting this one right.
Hotel ambience- generally spoilt by the rude, arrogant, rather aggressive aforementioned nationality who occupy 70% of hotel.
Entertainment. - its not our thing, but they try hard. Lots of miming etc. By the way, seats for the show are usually reserved (even though not allowed to) by, guess who? Spot on! They place jackets on them then go for dinner.

All in all, if you remain oblivious and calm about the above mentioned foibles, then this is the place for you. For us, not anymore, its had its day!

PS - A note to hotel management - on this visit we noticed you now charge for wifi in the lobby (previously free!) and bottled water (previously free). A completely backward step for this or any other hotel.

Arrived 1st Jan 2014 after another boring thomson flight in another of their out dated B757-200. Repainted to look new, just like a second-hand car would! again no in-flight entertainment and cabin crew there only to sell you their wares.
The transfer to the resort by thomson was efficient, good and entertaining. A good start by the on-site team for thomsons.
Check-in was well organised and we were soon in our apartment within the annex which was 2 mins walk......not a problem. Clean and tidy.
The food was of good quality and was always freshly prepaired. The menu varied everyday so discard the diets and enjoy whats on offer. The cakes in the afternoon are more-ish.
Never had any tummy bug problems except an expanding waistline through over indulgence....nevermind.
The staff were always helpful and always friendly.
The childrens club-riu-land catered for the german kids, which were in the majority, so my little one didnt fit in. We gave it a miss.
The evening entertainment contained miming acts for 5 of the 7 nights which were carried out by the entertainment team, the only up-shot was that they were miming to english pop records so we joined in. The majority of the hotel were germans so it was a case of......towels on sun beds at dawn......the public beach however was super. 2 mins walk.......go there......
sunbed hire on the public beach was not included but for 2 beds and a parasole, 9 euro, take towels otherwise as it is a sandy beach. Nudists were to the right of the resort but not in any numbers..... time of year?
A trip to the local town is about 7 euros one way and the town is a typical resort set up solely for the tourist. Lots of shops selling the usual touristy stuff and many places to eat and drink. The marina is quaint but the beaches are rather small and enclosed. Oliva beach is far superior so we didnt verture out of riu again.
You are not allowed to take food or drink from riu onto the beach but stock up anyway and just bag it, this is because there are independant kiosks on the beach and it is a public beach.
At this time of year the night time temp is cool so do take long sleeved clothes. Daytime is mid 20's but there can be a slight chill on the wind direct off the water. Further onto the beach its ok. Be aware that you will get burnt as the sun is strong.
We feel we got good value for money and would return.
Thanks thomson and riu

Room Tip: ask for a south facing room with balcony.

Decided at very last minute to go away for a week on New Years Day for a week. We've been here before and found it enjoyable but a bit basic.
If you're used to quality and finer things then you may be disappointed. This hotel is 3 star. The rooms are ancient. Not seen a big fat cathode ray tube television for years! Towels are paper thin and the whole place is screaming for a refurb.
But here are the positives. The location is superb. You fall out of the hotel onto one of the nicest beaches on the island (something the nicer hotels can't boast about). Taxi ride into town is dirt cheap. In the true spirit of all inclusive you can eat and drink yourself stupid with the good choice available.
The family rooms are a decent size. Staff are friendly.
Here's the best bit...the money I saved by not going to a nicer hotel allowed me to hire a car and a motorbike and do some shopping at some of the designer shops at both ends of the island. I only used the hotel to eat and sleep so can't comment on any of the other facilities, was too busy razzing around the island!
In summary, great value for money.

Visited this hotel with family and friends in October. The apartment rooms are comfortable and clean, the only problem we encountered was that we had an upstairs in our apartment that would be unusable for anyone with mobility problems. We also found that the air conditioning was not working and so we had to resort to sleeping on the sofa's in the lounge area under the fan as it was the only place that was comfortable in the heat, I would imagine it would be unbearable in the month's of June-August. The restaurant had an array of lovely food which was always hot. The bar was above average compared to the usual all inclusive. Service was good in all areas of the hotel.

We flew on Christmas Day & were impressed with the attentive staff from day 1. Gala dinners & food overall was very good for all inclusive. The location is a real bonus with miles of protected beach & no other hotels. Our first room was too noisy by the canteen and we were moved (& upgraded) immediately. As a famy of 5 the suite was spacious, akin to a 2 bedroom studio apartment. The only gripe was no kids club for British children with the entertainment geared towards the German holiday maker. We would use this hotel again.

If you are looking for a nice location to catch some sun rays at a good price and have 2 or more children then this the place for you. If you are used to good quality standards, you maybe disappointed. We loved the pool, the beach, the nice weather, the size of the room and part of the food. We disliked being ignored by most of the service personal, the quality of the room (even if cleaned), the fitness room (forget this) and most of the proposed attractions.
We will probably visit again the Canary Islands but will choose a more higher quality residence with a better service.
The flight there operated by TuiFly is just below Ryanair quality, so let's forget about it.
