“Good for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Protur Safari Park is a great family holiday location with plenty to keep kids entertained and a variety of pools. The local beach is about a 10 min walk and is clean with soft sand and clear waters. The all inclusive menu is a of good quality and tasty, though if you don't eat out the odd time or two it will feel a little samey. The additional restaurants that are also included in your all inclusive a a pain to book as you will need to queue ate the sports club (just outside resort) from about 8:30 am or earlier the morning you want to go to even have a chance at a table.
Overall though a decent place if you have a couple of kids.

We booked this hotel independently for a week through the hotel website and had a very good deal, though I was a little concerned about some of the reviews I felt there would be enough for my family to do outside of the resort to keep us happy.

We were allocated room 5117 which had lovely views over the pool and had the morning sun but we were the furthest from a lift we could be and the stairs (85 steps) which we were next door to were a bit of a killer - we didn't complain but should have as my husband is asthmatic and was suffering a chest infection and he found it hard going as did my four year old son. I had emailed in advance for a room with afternoon sun and a view of the pool so if we needed to go back with our boys we could still enjoy the sunshine but they seem to have not have fully understood the request.

The pools were nice and clean and plenty of beds around the pool but if you want a good spot get there around 8 especially by the kids pools. We did find the pools busy and the 3 larger pools were very deep, I didn't like taking our 4 year old in as I couldn't touch the floor in most of the pool and if he drifted off I'd be swimming after him. My 11 year old loved the pools though and made plenty of friends.

Kids club was good and my boys went to a few but we were too busy to put them in every day and we went away to be with them.

The restaurants that you book in advance were much better than the canteen main restaurant but you really had to be queuing by 8 to get in them (the Italian, tex mex and tapas) but we thoroughly enjoyed the Argentinian restaurant which is in la reserva the waterpark which we could book at 10.45 with no problem!

Food would be a bit samey after a week or so but there is a very good selection of restaurants (Spanish, Chinese, British, steak house and a Burger King) within a 5 minute walk of hotel - we spent a few days at the beach and eat at a lovely Spanish restaurant at S'illot.

The beach is lovely and you can sit practically at the water edge if like us you want to keep an eye on your children and the water is lovely and clear. We loved it on the beach and if it had been a bit closer we would have sent every day there - it's probably a 10 min walk but with two boys looking in all the shops on the way it often took longer! You can walk up to S'illot easily and you can hire bikes at the hotel if you like to be active.

We did take our boys on a boat trip for around 3 1/2 hours. The boat stops in a few quiet coves where you can go in the water from slides, steps, or just jump in, we all went in the sea for a splash which was lovely. You really get to see the coastline on the boat which is beautiful though with a family you may find it a bit long, you can get off and stay at different places along the coast which we would have done if we'd gone on an earlier boat. Highly recommend this but haggle with them and shop around, our first quote was just under 100 euros the second 48 euros!

The biggest downside of this hotel is the very hard beds and lack of lifts -one lift on our side which serves nearly half the hotel wasn't working so a big trek to get downstairs.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool are lovely but there were rooms overlooking the jungle pool which looked nice...

Just back from a 10 night stay which was very enjoyable. We stayed with our 2 daughters (7 & 12), my sisters family with 2 girls (10 & 11) and my mum and dad. Main things worth knowing below;

Hotel:

- Very clean
- Staff fine although my sister's air conditioning wasn't working and they had to kick up a stink to get moved
- Rooms were nice and clean. Would recommend a room overlooking the pool. We were lucky in getting a large balcony although not all rooms had this
- Entertainment of an evening was okay although we tended to sit where we couldn't see it but could hear it. Usual tribute bands, mimed musicals and token Latin dancing
- Location was fine. 15 min walk to Sa Coma which is a nice resort. Beach and sea lovely and water warm. However preferred Calla Millor which is left as you get to the end of the road opposite the hotel.

Food:

-First all-inclusive we have stayed at where you don't get shown to a table. Not really a problem but tables didn't really cater for 10
-Breakfast very good. We were there at peak time and only one morning we ate around 9.30 did we struggle to get a table. Food was warm with fresh omelettes and boiled eggs to order. Sausages nice although slightly overdone
-Country Grill provides snacks all days with hot food between 1-3. Proper chicken and doner kebabs very good and very addictive. Did have to queue for 5-10 mins for the kebabs and tables not easy to find although sure would be fine outside peak season. You can also eat lunch in main restaurant although get in early as start to run out of things the later you go in
-Evening meals were fine with fresh stir fry/noodles each day although a bit of a wait for this. Full choice of salads, etc and about 6 hot dishes
-You can get ham and cheese sandwiches between 11-12PM at the main bar although you have to ask as don't advertise this
-Away from buffet bars there are Argentinian, Mexican, Italian and Tapas restaurants. We ate at all other than Argentinian as we were told it wasn't great. Mexican was fine although that turned out to be a buffet as well. Italian was nice and proper service and as many bottles of wine as you can get through (we got through quite a few). Tapas was disappointing although Sangria nice
-The biggest problem with these restaurants was the queuing system. I won't repeat what others have already said but it was ridiculous

Drinks:

-Usual local spirits, wine and sangria was okay. Unlike some places we've been drinks are served in glasses of an evening including pint glasses

Poolside:

- Cleaned every morning, plenty of shade and you can get sunbeds fine as long as you were there by about 10 although prime locations are gone by then. We spent most of the time around the pool at the top which didn't get as busy as main pool and was good for sun
- There is a water park just across the road at the back of the hotel. It's very nice and kids enjoyed it but only really one slide in it. It's 12 euros for adults, 6 for kids and that includes food and drink but it doesn't offer good value for money

Kids:

- Four kids with us who normally spend time in kids clubs but although the clubs were there, the activities didn't seem as good as normal so they stayed out of them
- Plenty to do for them though. As well as swimming they enjoyed mini golf and there are a couple of play areas. There is also a small pool with a slide at the back of the hotel that the kids loved going on with their rubber tyres
- We hired bikes for the day which were free and standard okay. Need to be there for about 10.30 to definitely get one you want

Other Things To Do

- A couple of us went scuba diving in Sa Coma which was the first time i have done it and very good. 80 Euros for a few hours including equipment
- 7 of us hired Segways which was great fun. 39 Euros in Sa Coma although we negotiated down to about 30 as 7 of us

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking pool and large balcony. As there was a group of us my brother-in-law emaile...

A nice hotel, clean and helpful staff. Food very good, one of the only places I've stayed at where the food was hot. Good choices of swimming pools and the adjacent small water park good, only takes in 400 people so get there in the morning. Staff at the bars were efficient, polite and quick. Bus stops at bottom of road, I only used a bus once and it was 1.85euro into Cala Millor and nothing for child. Only downside was the evening entertainment, for a 4star hotel it was poor, even the kids mini disco could have been better. Oh yes, only 2 lifts....

I always go on trip advisor when booking holidays to get real reviews so hopefully this will help some of you!?
Firstly we had items stole from our first floor balcony which I felt most annoying as they were swimming shorts and childrens toys!! Nothing got done about this but not holding the hotel accountable!
Second bad thing, the hotel has 4 restaurants where you can eat but you need to book via the clubhouse and as previous people have stated this is ridiculas!!!!! We tried the tex mex and Argentinian with no problem by just going along about 9.15 and got a space but really wanted to try the tapas or Italian so went to que at 8.30am to a large amount of people already there and by the time it was my turn all space had gone! I don't go on holiday to que for an hour for a place to eat which is within the hotel I paid to stay for a week!
The tex mex and argintinuan were both nice places to eat and we loved the fajitas!
The main restaurant has a large variety of food for everybody with nice quality but not five star but this is four star hotel after all, more on par with asda standards not marks and spencer but still good, we got there within the first half hour of opening for breakfast and dinner so never saw the hectic busy side of it! The food did get repetitive by the end of the week!
Pools were great with plenty of childrens areas, and 2 tiny splash pools for babies!
Sun beds were easy to find at any time of day but not near the front of the pool if that's where you wanted?!
Yes there are a lot of German people at this hotel and they are catered for but as someone else said before me they found them rude this is not always the case as I found most of them polite but yet found some English rude so treat how you wanted to treated I say...
The entertainment Was bad but all the staff tried really hard and enjoyed it. The kids seemed to love it so won points in my book!
Thomson do a kids club but my child went once and did not want to go again, not sure why but it seemed ok?
There was always something to do and we really enjoyed playing tennis in the heat! The paradis park at the back of the hotel was a hit with my kids as there was cars, pool and park!
The boats were also a hit and mini golf!
The water park had only two slides for adults but the kids enjoyed the kid section, only went once as found 12 euros a lot for what it was!
Room was fab and could not fault it what so ever! But beware of Mosquitos in the room as my child got bitten on the last day and has a reaction so stopped at A&E on the way home!!
Free wii fi only in reception and tad slow but still there!
Oh and freshly made pancakes at breakie were fantastic!!!
So would I return?
... Not sure?!
... Lovely hotel with plenty to do but found the transfer too long from the airport with babies and kids
... Beach is over ten mins walk
You found these silly reasons but when I look for hotels these are the things that help me make my mind up?!

I hope this helps you!

This was our second consecutive year here. The rooms have all been tastefully refurbished in shades of turquoise and grey and look very smart and are kept so by a very efficient cleaning team who are in almost every day. We were a party of 6 -2children aged 9 and 5 parents and grand parents. The choice of pools means all ages are catered for and the range of other activities means nobody should be bored . Between us we covered tennis, table tennis, football, water polo, mini-golf and kids clubs and my older grandson even did an introduction to scuba diving. There was a new entertainment team Cosmo there this year and they were so much better than the previous one. Adults and children are all well catered for throughout the day and the childrens' mini-disco on the evening was a big hit. They also put on several shows later in the evening which were very good and into which they had obviously put a lot of hard work. The food was of the same very good standard and variety helped by 4 additional themed restaurants which can be booked within the all inclusive set up. The staff are all friendly and helpful from top to bottom and the managers and assistant managers are always around checking on things and very willing to engage with you whether its just to say hello or help sort something out. Do not be put off by the size of this place with almost 2000 people there at peak time. We never struggled to get sunbeds and never waited for a table in the buffet restaurants as the staff are so efficient at clearing tables to get the throughput. The only small queues were at the show cooking stations. I personally like the multinational nature of the people who come here and its interesting to talk with persons from other countries who nearly all speak some English. All in all just a fantastic set up.

Have recently come back from a week in the Safari Park in Sa Coma and wish I was there for longer.
The rooms were bright and clean and the staff were excellent and plentiful.
We never had to wait for a drink at any of the bars, we didn't struggle to find sunbeds - even at 11am, there was always tables in the restaurant.
The service really was second to none.
The evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss, mini disco at 8.30 then the evenings entertainment from 9.30-10.30, it varied between professional acts and the hotels entertainments staff doing a show - either way we watched all of the shows.
The hotel pools were nice and we did go to the water park - which is well worth a visit.
The beach is about 5 minutes walk away with a sandy beach and lovely clear blue water.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to families - there is 2 mini golf courses and trampolines and a playground, you could really spend all week here and still have stuff to do.
A great holiday and a great hotel.
