“Lovely!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

We stayed at the Coma Gran with our two year old daughter for 11 nights from 22 June to 3rd July. The hotel is clean and spacious and the one bedroom apartment we stayed in was modern and large. On the plus side the kids splash pool is excellent and the soft play area and baby room are fantastic, as are the outdoor playgrounds. Our daughter enjoyed T-time live and fell in love with Thomson the dog. The food in the hotel is of an excellent quality and the variety was good. It does get a bit 'samey' but when so much variety is offered every night that is inevitable. Our little girl ate better there than she does at home. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient.
On the downside, the music by the pool is too loud and doesn't stop until 11.30p.m. approx. It is a family resort and I think it should finish a little earlier so that the little ones can go to sleep. It was still very loud even with all windows closed etc. Having said that, it didn't spoil the enjoyment of our holiday and our daughter did like dancing to the 'party in the pool' at 11 and 4.30p.m.
We had our bag stolen on the beach (which held a very expensive camera). We didn't leave the bag unattended, it was taken by means of distraction by a fruit seller so beware. When we reported this, the police were useless and the rep was unsympathetic. When she realised how much is meant to us however (having lost almost 1500 pics) she did sympathise and made a special effort with our daughter, even giving her a Thomson family resort certificate she so wanted and making the time to talk to her etc.
The reps are mostly enthusiastic and the creche staff, although we didn't put our daughter in, were nice. Sunny Sarah really put effort in to the entertainment and the kids seemed to enjoy it. There did seem to be some tension between the reps though (another family commented on it also) and one day they were obviously being observed as the entertainment and frinedliness was stepped up a gear!!
Our daughter made two lovely little friends ('Tinkerbella' and Abigail) and we met some nice parents!
We got to hear the evening entertainment from our balcony and it was 'ok'. The Abba tribute sounding the best.
We took a trip to Marine Land. The reps told us it would take about an hour to get there and that we would be back around 3. It took 1 hour 40 and we were back at 4.30! It's expensive but we enjoyed it despite the crowds and heat.
Would we go back? Definitely! By the end of the holiday, we got used to the noise, our daughter loved it, the food was great, the hotel really nice and the staff friendly.

Stayed at the coma Gran for 11 nights with my husband and two daughter ages 3 and 9 months. The hotel room were very spacious and clean. My only downside to the hotel is the pool. The childrens pool is small and the big pool gets very deep and therefore half of the pool was rarely used. Also when the water polo was on at 2pm everyday the pool was not really useable. The Brits have turned into Germans and towels were put out on the sunbeds at an early hour. We had to follow suit and lay towels down early in the moring, but this is not something I like to do.
The resort of Sa Coma is lovely and the beach is ideal for small children. Most food premises cater for brits and it is quite expensive. We found a few really nice places to eat la Bodega (just opposite the top end of the big supermarket) Playa Dorada and Kenna Irish bar (reasonably priced) Everyone raved about Atlantic, it was nice, but in my opinion was more about quantity that quality.
The reps in the hotel work really hard and are brilliant with the kids.

Just got back from a weeks self catering at sa coma gran majorca.Me and my wife had a studio apartment, and was pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was,an added benefit of having a studio is that all the studio's have a pool view and a sea view .
Very impressed with the bathroom and maid service. As a hotel i couldnt fault it very clean spacious and modern.
It is ideal for families as there was a Kids Club but also recomend for couples .
As a resort i think sa coma offers plenty in the restaurant department has a nice beach also you can hire bikes and cycle to the resorts of S'illott and Millor using the safe cycle lanes.

What can I say about the Coma Gran. Refreshingly well presented hotel. Good sized rooms, clean (everyday infact, plus fresh towels if you wanted!). We stayed on a self catering basis but have heard from others that the food was really good if you stayed half board. Its amazing to go to a hotel where there is no issue with water pressure. The showers were fantastic!

The pool area was good, though I was disappointed that people and I mean British people laid towels out on the loungers at goodness knows what time, making it difficult to find a decent bed. One comment I heard was if you can't beat them, join them. I'd rather not but if needs must! I agree with the comment about the poolside music. Really dated and indeed loud.

Reps - appeared to all relatively new and just needed a few more weeks to bed in. Kids club was great - so my son thought! Not much in terms of entertainment for my older daughter (13).

Prices - It would appear that anywhere you go in Europe these days is ridiculously expensive. No real cheap meals/drinks. Prices match the UK for a meal out. However, I would disagree with someone's comments that the hotel was reasonable. 2 cokes and 2 packets of crisps were 10 euros 20 cents!

Sa Coma - a lovely area. Beach is beautiful, quite shallow which is great for younger kids. Lots of restaurants, though the typical British ones. Would have prefered the more traditional spanish tapas restaurants.

Pirates show - Excellent, though very over priced and boy do they pack you in. However, it didn't spoil our night. Have seen Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas and whilst not as good was a close second!!!

All in all the Hotel and the area were great for a week's break! Thanks Coma Gran for a good holiday.

We are a couple with two daughters aged 11 and 6. We have been elsewhere in Majorca before.
The Coma Gran is a fantastic hotel for families, the transfer journey is roughly an hour and check in was simple. We were self catering but there is an option to buy meals at the hotel and they looked good. The room we had on the 5th floor was more than large enough with a seperate bedroom and comfortable metal action sofa bed for the girls, the kitchenette was good with microwave an two rings kettle toaster etc. The meals at the bar were good and priced reasonably. Reception staff and bar staff were friendly and the cleaners came everyday except Wednesdays. The pools were cleaned everyday but as usual there was a scramble to put towels on sunbeds before breakfast. We read some reviews saying the pool was small and murky but whilst we were there it was very clean and only full when the Reps were doing an activity.
The Reps especially Dave B. were FANTASTIC so much energy and always smiling, not too pushy and the kids club staff really helped us have a few quiet hours each day. Evening entertainment was good, our kids loved the pantomime. More mature entertainment was on afterwards and was a good variety. Sa Coma is a small resort with lovely beaches and a good choice of bars, a small castle about 1.5 miles walk, Safari zoo, Rancho and boat trips we walked to Silliot and had Sunday dinner at the Red Lion and returned for a curry the owners are from Suffolk, we went back 3 times to Kennas Irish bar clearing our plates each time, JJ's bar run by Londoners had a free bottle of wine with our meal and the Cafe De La Mar had an outside BBQ with free sangria and kids cocktails.

Booked this as a last minute treat for my daughter, aged 9. Wasn't sure what to expect as it's a while since we'd been on a package and years since I'd used Thomson's! Didn't go with any raised expectations and didn't particularly care as long as it was clean and not full of rowdy party-goers. Well, we got our wish and much, much more.

Hotel

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. From the entertainment team (v focussed on good customer service) to the hotel staff who were always obliging and helpful. Rooms were huge and regularly cleaned - in fact we hadn't been there five mins when we noticed that the lock on our balcony door didn't seem to be working properly. After reporting it (politely of course) to the reception team, they immediately sent a maintenance man to sort it out. Within 10 mins he was changing the lock completely and fitting a new one! He also double checked the air-con for us before we'd even had time to change and hit the pool! That has to be the sign of a good hotel, in my book.

Pool was clean, fun and animation team's daily programme was funny, inclusive and varied. Kids club's was fun and relaxed and team very professional in their approach.

Now the food ..... had booked in for B&B before we arrived just so we could check it out before deciding whether to upgrade or not. Well we certainly weren't disappointed. After our first breakfast we went immediately to reception and booked half board for the next 4 nights as it was unquestionably excellent value, huge choice and fantastic every time we dined there. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Sa Coma is a quiet, pleasant little town so if you want to go clubbing turn around and go back to Magaluf or Palma Nova! This is ideal for you when you've got over having to hang out in nightclubs until 6am in the morning before staggering back to your room. It's very family friendly and ideal for children under 10 ....

It's rare I ever go on travel operator trips but this year we changed all that and went on 3!

The Orange Blossom trail - lovely! But don't go if you're frightened of high mountain passes with very tight winding roads! That said the bus driver threw the bus around them without any trouble! We stopped at Monastir St Luc - a beautiful mountain high monastery dedicated to the Black Madonna then onwards to Port de Soller - gorgeous little place = reminiscent of a small Monaco followed by the town of Soller (although a brief stop) then on the old electric train through the orange and lemon groves with stunning scenery back to Palma for the coach back! Worth every damn penny in my opinion - we saw lots of Majorca that very few people ever do!

Water Park

As payback for taking my daughter to the above I agreed to go to the Water Park nr Arenal for the day. Always fraught with trepidation this was a fab little park with good H&S on every ride (lifeguards top and bottom of every ride). Lovely hot day and plenty of pools and rides to choose from and bcs it was early in the season v few queues! Plus we got lunch thrown in with the price (yes well it was only a burger but still....)

Pirates

Good and not so good things about this! There is absolutely no doubt that this is one fantastic show ... breathtaking in parts and undoubtedly one of the best shows I've ever seen whilst on hols .... not sure about the 'cattle-market' mentality of ushering in the punters; merchandising them to death ie (1 photo x 12 Euros) and 1 x Pirate Bag for 15 Euros; and squeezing them into tight tables. Free vino .... mmmm - more like watered down Schloer and although the food was ok I would have been happy to have done without it .... that said the show isn't to be missed despite it's price. Oh yes they do an adult version on a Friday night too apparently.... great for hen and stag do's I guess!

All in all a fabulous last minute bargain.... and cheap at half the price !!! Would I go again .... you bet!!!

Just got back from a week's holiday at the Coma Gran with my partner & 3 month old baby, we had a 1 bed apt and went self catering. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone with kids as it is clean, friendly and has great entertainment from the Thomson reps. Lovely pools & lobby area, good sized rooms although quite basic but just what we needed and fun daytime & evening entertainment. Great location right by lots of nice bars/restaurants/shops and 5min stroll to the gorgeous sandy beach which has turquoise, clear, shallow waters, perfect for the little ones as it goes out really far before getting deep. Only things i can think of which could be improved at the Coma Gran are there should be more sun umbrellas around the poolside - there are lots but we still struggled to get shade so would be good if every other bed had an umbrella as there are so many families with young children. Also the twin beds should be interlocking as they were only pushed together to make a double, however they're on wheels and we kept waking up nearly falling down the middle as they slide apart during the night! Overall we had an excellent holiday and would definitely return to Sa Coma & highly recommend the Coma Gran :)
