we stayed there at the beginning of May,the hotel is recently been refurbished to a very high stander ed.the food was excellent, and the staff is very friendly.the official rating is three star, but i would put it at four star.Alcudia has a nice long beach, and a lovely harbor.Pollensa is another town worth a visit.Apart from few tacky shops and bars its quite a nice place to chill out.plenty of places to walk and the bus service is pretty good.very enjoyable two weeks, except the last day when we had our bags stolen from the poll area, with all our passports, tickets, credit cards, phone, money amongst other things.what a night mare. The hotel staff were very helpful.I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have nice views.

This is a newly refurbished hotel with excellent bathing areas to front and rear of the building. Food is good to very good although wine could disappoint. The staff are very good and in Alcudia there is a pleasant atmosphere at most places you happen to place your bottom down, with everyone having the ability to speak English very fluently.
The rooms are a little small but the rooms and bathroom are very nicely done.
There are no gym or spa facilities, however, I did hear that this is the owners next project to build these facilities, where the crazy golf is at present. However, if these are not on your wish list then the Astoria for a reasonable price is perfect for you now.
They do serve lunches at the front, but I found the food and staff at Los Palmitos opposite to be wonderful and efficient.
The beach is only 300 metres from the hotel and it has a blue tarmac road that runs both ways.
Sometimes I used the road and other times I just walked the edge of the sea which is only another 100 metres out. Port Alcudia beach is like a pond because of the breakwater and is lovely to walk in as it gets warm.
All in all I liked this hotel and would recommend it for condition, its staff and position. The entertainment was hit and miss, however, some acts like Abba's Angels were quite good.
Tips.
The sunny side of the building ( odd nos on first floor) face the sun. This is good when the weather is just warm, however, if its roasting you may prefer the darker side, which when its hot would have the entertainment. Whilst there the weather was varied, so most of the entertainment was in the bar.
The Abba tribute band if its in the area is really worth seeing. Westlife & Take That are poor & should not be endured even if you are a fan.
Take a trip to Albufera park ( you can hire a bike nearby ) as its a very big natural area and would take ages on foot to walk around.
Take bug spray as Alcudia is reclaimed land and mossies do lurk especially in the park and around the canals, although they are sprayed and controlled by the Majorcans periodically. I found the Boots spray very affective.
Don't bother going to the Dracs Caves unless you are young and don't mind being treated like cattle being driven into the bowels of the caves with hundreds of other people for a 20 min performance.
The wifi is expensive at the hotel (15 euro for a week) and isnt very good in the rooms ( very weak at 1mbps). In the foyer it is better (11mbps). Strangely, The hotel wifi is better at the Los Pelicanos (17mbps) across the road. However, most places that do lunches & drinks do have wifi and they will give you a wifi code if you ask for it.
You may be better with a 3G package limit especially to use Viber etc.

Room Tip: 128 is convenient for foyer but does not have any sun, but in the hot weather should have evening en...

I have just recently returned from a week staying at this hotel and I have to say myself and my fiancée were pleasantly surprised with just how good it was.

The service from the staff, they were friendly and very helpful. When we arrived we arrived fairly late but there was somebody to greet us and check us in to the hotel. We was shown to our room we stayed on the top floor facing the front of the hotel which wasn't too bad noise wise.

The hotel has recently from what I gather undergone a major refurb and you can see that it has been done to a high standard, the rooms looking very modern and neutrally decorated colours.

In the room there is a safe (with additional charge) mini bar (again additional charges per items) and TV. We didnt quite get what the sofa in the room was all about and felt the space could have been used up by maybe having a dressing table there for the ladies, we used it as a space to put cases.

We stayed half-board at this hotel and the food was absolutely superb. Freshly cooked for you, at breakfast you had the usual choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, beans etc along with a selection of breads, cereals and fruits. There were pancakes being made in front of you and they were very tasty pancakes as well. Dinner was no exception with a great selection of meats and freshly cooked pasta that you can ask to have prepared in front of you with any ingredients you wish to add to it.

The pool and bar areas were all kept clean regularly, and pool service was lovely to have.

I would definately recommend this hotel to other couples if you dont have children or want them running around you whilst sunbathing by the pool this place is the ideal place.

We would consider returning in the future.

Room Tip: Pool facing is the best for getting the sun all day long... and towards the back of the hotel as you...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Hi to all, just got back from one week stay at the Astoria Player in Alcudia, having spent the last couple of years reviewing hotel its really nice to post a positive review on a very good hotel, the hotel has recently been refurbished and feels brand new, some areas need looking at, i.e. no large mirror in bed rooms, did not go down well wife the wife, but they are aware of minor comments and are looking into them.
Ratings are high priority for hotels so they have spent the money trying to give clients high standards, its, very clean in all areas, furniture inside and out is very good, maid service was excellent, every day, all staff were very helpful and polite, especially in the restaurant, Leo the manager is always very keen to help, food was of a very good standard, always hot and plentiful with good variety, from pasta, roast dinner, fish and many other dishes from different countries to give everybody good choice.
The facilities in both pool areas are very good, in the inside hotel pool some towel placing on beds was going on by the brown brigade who spend eight hours a day lying around like prunes, but it did not stop us getting a sun bed when we wanted, the outside pool area to the front of the hotel is very nice and more space is available, with its own snack bar, internal and external bar areas are very good, again with excellent staff, price are about the same as UK, some cheaper beers and spirits can be found outside in the local bars and restaurants, the surrounding areas is very flay and wound suite those with poor mobility, there are some very good coastal walks and plenty of local shop within a short walk of the hotel, we found that turning to the left when you leave the hotel brought you to plenty of shops.
I will close this review by saying, if you want a no hassle relaxing holiday try this hotel, however we were told by regulars that a price increase is coming to cover the refurbishment cost ??, let hope not.

Room Tip: Higher floor would aid light sleepers, but most if not all entertainment stops about 1am.

Stayed in this hotel June 2013 for 10 days half board, reception staff friendly and helpful. We were given a room on the fifth floor overlooking the old pool at the rear of the hotel. The room was quite small, the bed very comfortable and the wardrobe storage is ok for a long weekend not a holiday, the room is very clean and tidy but badly laid out. The food in the restaurant is a very good standard, the snack bar is ok. sun beds are aplenty at both pools, the new pool at the front is a very relaxing place to spend the day. The entertainment was a bit up and down some good some not so. Overall this is a lovely hotel very very clean and tidy nice staff, child free, and chilled I will return one day

Very clean looking hotel, nice refurb but very noisy!! the walls are paper thin, you can even hear the guests next door having a shower!
We went in May and the weather wasn't great the hotel doesn't cater for bad weather - nowhere to sit as there is no lounge in the hotel, the bar is open to the elements and it was quite cold to sit in there especially at night. I told reception that the air con wasn't working and was told it had been turned off but other guests had it in their rooms?
The dining room wasn't a pleasant experience - too regimented and busy not really big enough for the hotel and the head waiter was unpleasant also it was difficult sometimes to get a drink as it was so busy.
The rooms aren't designed for ladies! nowhere to put any toiletries and no mirror (there is one in the bathroom).
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for the above reasons.

On the plus side the hotel was very clean, the food was good with lots of choice, the pool area was nice (the pool was freezing though and the Jacuzzi wasn't working), the reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, the drinks prices were reasonable including the mini bar, the shower was excellent with plenty of hot water.

Ask for a room at the back of the hotel as the front is noisy from the bars nearby also a new outdoor entertainment area was being built at the front.

Tips
Take earplugs!
The public buses are red and yellow - they get very full so go early.
The old town is nice, well worth a visit.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are noisy ask for one at the back (also have nicer view).

Just returned from a week at the 'new' Astoria Playa and very pleased to see many (not all) of the previous staff still there, although they were still getting used to the new, extra facilities. Bedrooms are very modern if a little minimalistic - mine (double for single use) on the 4th floor next to lift but no noise and looking out to the front overlooking the new pool and entertainment/bar areas!! The old entertainment stage at the rear of the hotel has gone so rooms at the back no longer have to take this into account - similarly at the front the main driveway has gone so no noisy coaches pulling up at all hours!! A little disappointed that the bar snack menu was not available from the main bar by the rear pool as before; and the new snack menu was a little limited for choice, but Alex explained this was only a temporary menu to get the new bar area up and running. Great food choice and quality in the restaurant. Will definitely be going back. NB. Word of warning - keep your hand luggage/bags/valuables secure in Alcudia!!

Room Tip: rooms at the rear have sunlight for most of the day - rooms at front have more shade!
