Now I have your attention. This was the first impression we got when we arrived at Sea Club reception. Had our hard earned wages really paid for this? I am pleased to say that first impressions are not always what they seem.
It turns out this is a 2nd reception/shop to cater for those staying in the infamous Block D or 'Block Britain' as it could easily be called. Its not a bad thing sharing sun loungers with fellow Brits, I can think of many worse nations, naming no names.
The only reason I can think of people disliking Block D is its location, as its not next to the main hub of activity. But for me, this was a plus point. It was a simple 2 minute walk to the shows on a night and we had no sound pollution should we choose not to attend.
There is a seperate restaurant for Block D, possibly even unnecessary as the main one is moments away. Block D has its own pool and although you could use any of the five on site at sea club, we didn't see the need to venture away from a pool our room overlooked.
The beach was a 5 minute walk and stepping off the sea club complex you straight away are met with strings of restaurants and places to enjoy a drink. It is definetly a family resort with the majority of shows and events aimed at the younger generation. The night life was very tame.
The holiday club reps always appeared friendly and energetic and dedicated an appropriate amount of time keeping the kids entertained. The rep laid on to cater for the adults, with water aerobics and water polo gave a nice dimension to a day by the pool, with no obligation to partake if you didn't wish too.
The shows which featured The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Queen Night, Abba Night, Disco Night featured the same 5 swedish performers who would effortlessly be Simba the Lion one night, then Freddie Mercury the next were of high standard and deserved more admiration then the watching public seemed to give.
The reception staff were very helpful, however the bar staff could have been more enthused with life, it is understandable how things could get monotonous for these people, particularly the life guards whom I never saw move for hours at a time.
We had one incident in which our air conditioning began to leak water, we informed reception and by the time we returned from dinner, it was fixed. The cleaners did what is on their job description and cleaned the floors, made beds and brought new towels. They could have folded my clothes up, I wouldn't have minded.
All in all, the stay was one with very positive memories and no negative experiences that are really worthy of voicing. If you are a family or a couple who are just wanting a nice, relaxing holiday this is the place for you.
