We stayed here July 2012 and had a lovely stay.we were a bit apprehensive about staying here after reading reviews about it being like a nursing home! We are early twenties and didn't find this at all. It may have been due to the time of year but there were quite a few young couples. Drinks were great, pint glasses of anything you want, even strawberry vodka and lemonade! Food did the job, familiar meals, but all tasty. Great location, by a beautiful beach and also a pleasant walk into Alcudia of an evening. Rooms were basic but did the job, had baths and plenty of room to move about. Beds werent the comfiest and were two singles pushed together.Pool area was lovely, nice sized pool, we found sunbeds available every time. Behind the hotel is a little lake which is also nice for a wander too. Not far from bike hire places or anything like that. You could have bottles of wine with your dinner which was also a nice touch. Really good value for money and we had a great time! Definitely would recommend.

Stayed here in october 2012, very good standard for a 3 star hotel, in fact we have stayed in some supposed 4 star hotels that have not been as good as this hotel, good clean comfortable rooms, cleaned daily, stayed on an all inclusive break, food very good and varied, good position for a nice quiet relaxing holiday especially as an adult only hotel, and only a short walk through some pine trees and your on Alcudia's beautiful beach, would definatley stay there again.

My sister and I stayed at Platja d'Or for a week earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had read the usual mixed reviews and the good ones outweighed the bad so we thought it would be ok. It was that and more.
This is an ADULT ONLY hotel so why do people complain about the age group it attracts? A lot of 30, 40 and even 50-year-olds have children too young to take to this hotel.
The food is excellent, a good variety at every meal, beautifully presented and replenished promptly. We only stayed one week, but if that week's menu was repeated every week for three weeks, you could eat something different every day. There was no restriction on beer and wine for lunch and dinner as you just helped yourself. The tables were cleared constantly, and fresh tablecloths laid by friendly, efficient staff every time the tables were vacated. In fact all the staff were first class.
The two girls doing the entertainment we had read about have gone, and Jake does a quiz every night, followed every other night by outside entertainment. The week we were there, this comprised a comedian/singer, flamenco and salsa troupe, and two tribute bands all of which were very entertaining.
The rooms are simply furnished but adequate for a holiday. Yes the beds are firm because of the foam mattresses, but not uncomfortable. More drawer space would be welcome, though. They are cleaned daily, towels and bedding changed as required or requested. The shower was hot and powerful. The air-conditioning is effective and the quietest we've ever come across.
There are plenty of sun beds, both around the pools and throughout the grounds so we never had a problem finding somewhere to sit. Please note – beach/pool towels are NOT provided. We also went to the wonderful sandy beach two minutes directly across the road where two beds and a parasol cost €9 for the day. My sister likes to walk and there was plenty of scope for that right around the large sandy bay. The sea is shallow and clear and very safe and you get more of a breeze than at the hotel.
The Thomson reps, Chris and Cally, were friendly and knowledgeable. At least one of them was always around 7 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chris (male) in particular could often be seen chatting with the guests, answering questions and giving advice on where to go or how to get there. Lovely chap.
I only have two grumbles. Firstly, the ladies toilet by reception is tiny with three cubicles whose doors open outwards as there's no room for them to open inwards. The first door opens against the door from the lobby and there's hardly room to wash your hands. Secondly - NO WIFI! In this day and age, surely this could be provided if only in the lounge area.
Despite the above, we would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: Although it's hard to see it because of houses and trees, the rooms facing the sea are quieter a...

My wife and I spent 10 nights at the Platja d'Or Hotel from 6th – 16th. October, 2012. The hotel is ideally situated on a long stretch of sandy beach which is accessed by a short pathway through some pine trees directly in front of the hotel entrance. The sea is crystal clear and ideal for bathing although a little chilly at first, being October. Take some bread into the sea with you and hand-feed the fish swimming around in the shallows to the point that you can actually lift them out.

The rooms are comfortable with air-conditioning, private balcony, fridge and a small TV. There is also a room safe but there is a charge for this on a daily basis (1.80 euros per day if I remember correctly). The TV has only 3 channels which is by the way because we never watched it. If this is going to be your holiday activity then perhaps better to stay at home. The en-suite bathroom is a shower over bath scenario and the shower pressure is the best ever. The rooms are well-maintained on a daily basis by diligent house-keeping staff.

The reception staff are most helpful and will always assist you with a cheery smile as will the Thomson/First Choice staff who have a desk in the lobby.

This hotel seems to be marketed exclusively in the UK and, as far as we could see, all guests were British which was a tonic in as much that you didn’t have to put up with this German towel nonsense. All guests at the hotel are staying on an “all-inclusive” basis so there are no wristbands issued. Not sure if it was due to the time of year but this hotel obviously appeals to a more mature age group. The buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner are extensive and you will never go hungry with always something to your liking. Alcoholic drinks at lunch and dinner were on a help-yourself basis from a large fridge with a choice of white, red or rose wines plus chilled bottles of San Miguel beer.

The bar area has extensive indoor seating plus an adjacent outdoor patio area which is partially covered. Just off the patio area is the “Showroom” where the evening entertainment takes place. Some previous reviews of the evening entertainment have been on the negative side but this has obviously been upgraded as we found it enjoyable. A word must be said about the bar staff and watching them operate at busy periods is a joy to behold. They can clear a queue with the speed of a conveyor belt and we watched two cocktails being made up and served in 40 seconds. Quite remarkable.

The swimming pool area has an adequate sufficiency of sun loungers although, being October, the pool itself was cold. In our 10 days there we only saw a handful of brave souls use it. The sea was much warmer.

Out and About :- There is a frequent bus service outside the hotel to take you to the neighbouring resorts of Muro, Picafort, Alcudia Port, Alcudia Old Town, and Port De Pollenca. There is also an hourly service to Palma. There are several shops and restaurants within easy walking distance from the hotel including a pharmacy and several currency exchange points. There is also a dedicated tobacconist about 15 mins walk from the hotel which is the place to buy your cigarettes by the carton. There are also several shops selling wines and spirits. Many of these are sold in plastic bottles which is ideal for taking home – much lighter and less likely to be broken. A litre bottle of Grouse whisky was 10.80 euros (exactly £9.00) and a carton (200) of Superking Cigarettes was 44 euros although several other brands were cheaper. During our time there £1 bought you 1.20 euros at the currency exchange shop.

Duty Free Shop at Palma Airport :- This is a complete “pie in the sky” and prices are much more expensive than the local shops. Buy all your duty free items BEFORE you go to the airport. The 1 litre bottle of Grouse Whisky which was 10.80 euros in a local shop was over 16 euros in the duty free shop at Palma airport. Their cigarettes were also more expensive.

Finally, take some insect repellent with you as the mosquitos were active. We noticed many guests had several bites and we were no exception.

My wife and i stayed at this hotel 14th - 21st October 2012.and had a very relaxing enjoyable break doing nothing sitting and lazing around eating and drinking in the sunshine which we wanted. We requested a high floor room with a sea view before we left the uk and that is exactly what we got, could not fault the room although could have done with a few more draws for our clothes. The view from our room was a little disappointing as we were in front of the half build house and most of the coast line was obscured by pine trees .All the rooms have swipe cards and you can also lock the door at night from inside.
The hotel is found in a cul-de-sac where the front faces the sea the back of the hotel fronts the main road which you can hear sometimes noise from round the pool although this did,nt bother us.
The beach which is fantastic is about 200 yards away is approached over the road and though some pine trees next to the half built house. There are beach beds there but i myself felt a little cut off from the hotel (no drinks eats or toilets).
There was always plenty of food to eat and the quality was good the down fall being self service with the food being kept on hot plates under hot lights the food was never hot with the exception if you could catch it coming straight from the kitchen.
There were a lot of older people staying at this hotel however that did,nt bother us as we did,nt want loads of children.we slept well apart from the barking dog which can be found next door to the half built house.
We may or may not come back to this hotel but have no regrets we had a great holiday.

Room Tip: high floor with sea view

Hotel is in a nice location just across a small access road to the wonderful beach of playa de muro.At the rear of the hotel there is a busy road which can be quite noisy when you are in the rooms overlooking the pool or when sitting by the pool, but i think after a couple of days you tend not to hear it.The hotel is not actually in Alcudia, but is about 30-45 minutes walk away depending on your walking ability. We walked into Alcudia along the beach, which is a really lovely walk and probably the best way to do it.The rooms are fine, nothing too fancy, but clean and tidy and towels were changed every day if required. The food was good.. there was always plenty choice and what was on offer was always good. The one thing i would have to say (as has been said in previous reviews is that the food could have been warmer..this needs to be addressed .A nice touch in the dinning room is that that the wine and beers are kept in a large fridge and you just help yourself. Now the entertainment....where do i start...over the seven nights we were there we had 4 professional acts come in,3 were tribute bands, The Beatles, Westlife and,IL Divo. The 4th was a rock band which did American and British songs from the 70s. All these acts were excellent and could not be faulted, what could be faulted though was the attitude of the hotels entertainment person (jake) who seemed to think it was ok to stick on a mix cd after the professional acts were finished or after one of the many quizzes, totally killing the night even though it was only about 10.45pm, so he could go and swan off somewhere leaving the people who wanted to stay on and dance totally frustrated. He was actually asked to put on some disco music on disco night but said he didnt want to???? - very lazy and sloppy. I must also mention the bar staff who always served you quickly and with a smile on they're face they were great as were all the staff . Also worth a mention are the Thomsons reps especially young Chris who did his best for me on the occasions i approached him . Summing up i would have to say i would return to this hotel, but it would be great if they could get the entertainment thing sorted so you could enjoy yourself to the end of the night , and not be chased off to your bed before 11pm

Room Tip: quieter overlooking sea, some road noise on poolside
