I travelled here as a base for a bit of time out from work - thankfully it was a base and not the centre of my holiday.
I'm basing my review on a comparison with a 3 star all inclusive holiday I've taken in Menorca with much the same basics to it.
The hotel itself is probably the main positive - the standard of furnishing, rooms, proximity to beach, main entertainment districts, general layout of the reception, restaurant, relaxation areas are all very good. The pool seemed a bit small for the number of residents, and I'd imagine is pretty cramped during high season.
The food (again in comparison to another 3 Star hotel of similar size offering all inclusive) was rubbish. I expect basic and repetitive but this brought those qualities to a new level.
Staff: Bit of a mix (as I guess you'd find anywhere) Most of the restaurant staff seemed pretty malevolent and unfamiliar with common courtesy. The reception staff on the other hand were always friendly and helpful. The bar staff in the evening were pretty uninvolved and I had an hilarious/infuriating experience one evening when I got to the bar about 2 minutes past 12 and asked if they had any water - that rare and expensive commodity I had the cheek to expect she might have available. She didn't apparently. So I asked for a beer to be told I had to pay between 12 and 1 o'clock - which as I really wanted water I wasn't prepared to do. At this point a local tradesman walked up to the bar, asked for a beer and was given one free of charge. Looking for a coffee from a machine, not a person, I discovered that they switch all the machines off at midnight. What this seems to mean is that if you want liquid of any sort after 1 at night you're screwed. Which is a bit alarming really.
The typical guest I came across in early October were a pretty equal mix of retirees, youngish couples and families taking advantage of cheap school time offers. On the whole as someone staying on my own this wasn't a crowd that were likely to want to socialise with me and I knew that going into the holiday.
As a base the place was great for planning and escaping to some really great parts of the north of the island - I hired a bike locally for 5 days and having the hotel to come back to to fill up on the sub standard food and sometimes available liquids wasn't the worst thing in the world. Obviously you can get a inebriated as you want all inclusive and they actually served drinks (which they do until midnight and not a second after, even if you're medically dehydrated and on the verge of death) in glasses - unless the barman can't be bothered collecting glasses and tells you they've run out - but like the drinks, glasses are sometimes available - which is the one advantage and point score Hotel Lagomonte has over the 3 star hotel I'm comparing it to in this review - admittedly on staff attitude, food, clientele, entertainment and catering times it fails spectacularly - but it does sometimes have glasses, before 12, when they want to use them and consequently clean them.
The animation team, who I think they clone from a factory somewhere underwater in Balearics, were good. They always are, wherever I go - it's uncanny. It makes you wonder how Britain's got talent manages to produce such rubbish acts when poorly paid, yet excellent and talented individuals like this can be produced on spec across the mediterranean!
That's it. I wouldn't go again.
Go for Pool Facing, 3rd floor and up.
