“The Food ruined our stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

A four day break to chase some late sun brought us to BelleVue Belsana in the picturesque resort of Porto Colom. We had been to the resort( different hotel) previously on a cruise and stay but were surprised as to how closed down the resort was at the end of October. We had thought that UK half term would have kept things going for this week but unfortunately not.As this Hotel is at the far end of the resort this made us feel quite isolated.
The Hotel is basic, but clean, with Avril and Anne on reception being extremely helpful, and we had a view from our room which was spectacular.Maybe one benefit for the end of the season was the hotel was nice and quiet with no rowdy guests. But maybe they were not rowdy because there was nothing happening at any time to get people in the mood for fun! Totally bereft of entertainment, just some piped music in the bar in the evening.
The big letdown was the food, which has been mentioned many times in other reviews. To my wife and I, the food on holiday plays an important part of our enjoyment, and even in a 3 star with a buffet you can usually find something to eat,but I was really irritated that when we came to eat at 1900( opening time), the food on display was barely warm. This says to me that it had been put out much earlier than needed, and to then put a microwave in the middle for the plated food to be heated up is an absolute nonsense. The Hotel will destroy itself if it does not get this crucial part of it's offer resolved. 4 nights stay, all inclusive, yet after the second night we had to pay at local restaurants for both Lunch and Dinner on days 3 and 4. Not our choice, but driven to do so by the poor quality of the food and its dreadful( and unhealthy) temperature.
This is the first negative review I have written and it pains me to do so, but I cannot say with any truth that this holiday delivered what we were looking for. A shame, when the basics were OK,the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was acceptable. Definite need for Improvement.

Room Tip: Sea view ( we were on the third floor)

Had a fantastic, relaxing week at hotel. Accommodation comfortable, view from balcony outstanding. Staff very friendly and courteous. Food, a variety of hot and cold, enough to satisfy anyone's needs. However, if the weather is too cool for the pool and sun terrace the only entertainment is walking round the marina or to the beach, though both areas were extremely picturesque. Convenient bus service to local towns and markets. Glass bottom boat well worth the money, trip to Caves of Drach, a little expensive, would have been better to go by bus.
No evening entertainment at hotel but met up with three other couples and helped celebrate a 40th and 50th birthday.
Staff extremely efficient and work really hard though could do with some help in order to speed up service a little.
All in all, a holiday worth every penny, came home feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to go back to work. Can't wait to go again.

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 3 to 5 overlooking the sea. However rooms near to the lift can be a little noisy.

We have just returned from the Belsana on Monday the 29th of October, the hotel is clean and well presented, the staff try to make your holiday a good one, We went late in the season so there was no entertainment and Porto Colom is very quiet and we did understand this.
However they need to make changes, the food was of a good standard but was always cold and had to be put in the microwave to heat it up, which is a pain when all people at meal time are trying to do the same.
All the restaurant ladies worked very hard and were very pleasent.
Then we come to the pool bar and main bar, We were told that the bairman that ran the pool bar Oscar was miserable so would I be if I had to cook all the bar meals and serve all the drinks on his own and clean all the pool area alone, then the mail bar was run by Juan who ran the amin bar serving all the drinks and cleaning all the bar areas alone and at one point on the holiday the hotel was full, which ment Oscar and Juan had to look after 150 people alone, not a good situation.
But the bar staff and restaurent staff looked after us all very well, just a message to the management sort out the cold food and get some more staff and the hotel will be a good one , We did

Room Tip: most rooms have a sea or bay view

The hotel was as expectered, the food was more basic than I have had before in a 3* in Spain, but the staff were GREAT resort is beautiful quite restfull. Loved the pool area could hear the crashing waves lovely views. The staff worked very hard not many of them must be cutting back due to economic climate. I enjoyed that there was no entertainment everyone chattered o each other something we dont do enough these day of tex and email. All in all I enjoyed my holiday and we loved the crack as the Irish would say.

Room Tip: A sea view would be best,we had a side sea view of the harbour and some scrub land so try not to be...

We were looking for a quiet, inexpensive week away in the late Autumn sunshine and we got this at the Belsana. Checking out previous reviews, we knew that this wasn't going to be a luxury break with gourmet food so bear that in mind. Rooms are adequate, if a little tired, some have fantastic views facing towards the sea. Decor of the restaurant is very bright and uninspiring and could be improved by switching off some of the lights at dinner in the Restaurant perhaps? Food was basic but as previous reviewers had stated, there was always something you could find to eat and the microwave was a bonus. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. One evening the food was very good but this was because an official photographer was there taking photos of the hotel for a new brochure evidently. Shame the food couldn't have been that good every evening. In terms of staff - the barman in the evening was fantastic but overworked. Reception staff are very helpful. The younger of the 2 waitresses should be made aware that some of us tourists do speak some Spanish so when she discusses us in unflattering terms with her colleague, we know what she's saying.......but on the positive side, both of them worked very hard to clear tables. Porto Colom harbour is very pretty and worth the walk.

The hotel was lovely and the staff very friendly, our room over looked the ocean which was stunning as the sun came up. The rooms were basic but adequate for a 3 star hotel, Porto colon very quiet, but the public bus service is perfect to go to cala de or and calas de mallorca, also took the bus to caves of drach and saved money doing it that way. Agree food in hotel was cold from time to time, but microwave helped. Staff worked tirelessly, Juan in the lounge bar worked non stop at night, unlike others found Oscar very quiet and hardly said a word. All in all loved our holiday, the holiday is made by the people u are with and not just the location you are at. So people that write a bad review of this is prob cause they don't like each others company and prob wudnt be happy anywhere!
