“Annual Report 2010!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2010

Another year, another birthday, another visit! Last year a got a lot of stick for commenting on the clientele. A nice bunch this year - more English than ever and lots of golfers.

Hotel continues to provide a solid base for a holiday. Nice location, excellent breakfast and clean tidy rooms. Staff friendly and they seem to have lost the bossy head waiter of previous years. Emailed in for a particular room and it was ready and waiting on arrival.

Unlike others I was quite happy with the saltwater pool as I usually swim in sea at the nearby beach. Pool water clear as a bell although some of the tiling might offend Holiday Watchdog! Wifi is free too and seems to work well so you can phone home via Skype on your smartphone for next to nothing.

I really miss a cava on the balcony while watching the sun go down. For those who thought the appartments opposite a bit of an eyesore, there used to be a lady who did her ironing on the balcony in an interesting state of undress.......!!

Local restaurants seem to still provide good value with most offering a fixed price meal for two with wine. The former Flintstone's now Portals Village does a tapas selection of unexpectedly good quality. I certainly can't afford to eat by the marina!

Regular local buses but very crowded at peak times.

Its only 10 degrees C here today in Uk so might well go back for a few more days in October.

marina portals great value for money, its rooms certainly need updating but were very clean, and i,ve got to say the view from the balcony is disappointing there is a large block of flats overlooking the pool which to me was an eyesore, breakfast was very good with lots of choice and could not fault the service in the restaurant and at reception. i think the hotel lacks atmosphere though especially the bar there was never anyone there no good for a night cap. We only did B&B thankfully as there are some great restaurants in the area, a must is Port Alt turn right out of hotel then second right its next to the church not cheap but fab food and service, also Jose very good and Chamilles a must. The village itself is quiet but go to the marina and its something else, expensive but worth a visit just to sit with a drink and people watch, we saw Nicky Clarke whilst there, apparently there are quite a few celebs that visit. The main beach is lovely and clean there is a restaurant at either end which are lovely. All in all a good holiday and the weather helped it was very hot for Sep.

My wife and I spent four nights here recently. This was not our first choice of hotel, having been let down by Thomson Travel who had not booked our original choice correctly. The staff at this hotel were helpful and pleasant, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the food was excellent. Although its location is fairly distant from the beach and harbour, it is convenient for Palma and other resorts by bus.

We stayed over Spring half term and had a family room which meant that we had two seperate bedrooms, hall, bathroom and a very long balcony overlooking the pool. It was wonderful to have seperate space for the children! The room was clean and kept clean daily by two lovely ladies who were happy to fit in with our convenience. The three pools were clean and safe with a life guard on the main pool. We stayed half board. The children made the most of the buffet style restuarant to try new things each day without fearing that they would get stuck with food they didn't like. The food was fresh and there was always lots of choice. As a vegetarian, the buffet always included lots of fresh salads and breads for me but if I ate fish there would have been a much greater choice. Portal Nous is a quiet residential area where we found a good selection of small shops that met our needs and where there is a quiet (ten minute) walk down to either the beach or the marina. You might be able to see the the lights of the clubs and hotels across the bay but they are a world away from this lovely spot.

Everyone we spoke to this stay was on a return trip, like ourselves. It's a testiment to this hotel, that so many people return. Alright, its not decorated in the latest decor but look beyond that, its got a lot going for it. Here, I really can relax!

This year, free entry to the Spa circuit was included, which we used most days. The coffee machines have changed in the restuarant, so the coffee at breakfast is now pleasantly drinkable. Otherwise, not much change at the hotel or in Portals Nous.

Have just returned from a 4 day trip to the Marina Portals , Check in desk a bit of a drama , seemed to take ages for each check in .About 10 mins per booking ! After that was quite good . we had a room on the 1st floor which was 2 floors below the reception , was a really nice room with a lovely terrace (on the what technically was the ground floor for the rooms ) steps led down to the pool which was really nice . loads of beds & I would say enough room for all . we stayed half board & i couldnt believe how quiet the dining room was in the evening , only about 4 tables full, each time we were in there , A bit of a shame really as the food was nice , lots to choose from , I think most people must book bed & breakfast as the nearby restaurants are really nice . we went to joses restaurant which was right opposite the hotel & had a fab meal , so I think if I went again I would just go b&b . The ship pub which was about 100 yards away was great too , an english bar with the loveliest tuna mayo sandwich ever & the really friendly staff made it a nice place to end up in . Overall a lovely holiday , I would say best for short breaks . Marina a shortish walk away downhill , a bit of a killer coming back ! but lovely all the same , loads of lovely bars & resaurants and fantastic boats to have a look at . , but a bit expensive for the average person ! its nice to have a couple of drinks & then head back to the hotel .... Or the ship pub !
Breakfast was great , something for everyone .
