“Excellent, well run, hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

We stayed at the Marina Portals for a week from October 27th and would happily go there again. The check-in was very efficient and we were soon in our room, 507 which was quite large enough for us, with plenty of wardrobe space, a spacious en-suite and a very nice view from the balcony of the pool area and, in the distance, the sea and the marina.
In reply to the review by 2012RKD - if the guests bothered to read the excellent hotel information folder in their room they would immediately get all the information about the hotel they could possibly need. The excellent young lady in reception immediately arranged for extra pillows for our room and provided maps, bus timetables and leaflets about trips as soon as we asked for them.
Breakfast was amazing, the array of food available, both hot and cold, was the best I have ever come across in a Spanish hotel and the cook producing omelettes to order was an unusual and most welcome touch. We did try dinner one night and this was also very good but we mostly ate out at night and would recommend Celia's and Jose's (both opposite the hotel entrance) Casa Paco's and Mad Lizzies (best curry I have ever tasted - try their Curry &Quiz night if you get the chance).which were all very good value for money.
The easiest way to get to the marina, with it's large collection of very very expensive boats is to go out of the gate in the hotel gardens and walk (all downhill) for about 10 minutes following the signs. It will take you longer coming back because it is all uphill - or cheat and get a taxi which will cost you about 4 Euro. The bus service is excellent, the bus stops are just down the road from the hotel and it will cost you only 2.05 Euro to get into Palma.
The next two resorts down the coast are Palma Nova and Magalluf but Portals Nous is completely different from these resorts it is a far more gentle-paced resort and a much friendlier place.
The Marina Portals is a hotel that fully merits it's four stars, the accomodation is great and the staff, whether in reception, the restaurant, the bar, at the pool and especially the housekeeping staff are all friendly and very helpful.
THe only things that could improve this hotel are; larger lifts, tea-making facilities in the room and a general entertainment channel (like BBC1) on the tv - not every british holidaymaker wants to watch endlessly repeated news.

Just arrived back from hotel after 5 night break, with party of 6.
Breakfast was spot on and drinks in hotel reasonably priced.
Rooms cleaned thoroughly every day.
Although I spoke to staff at hotel and emailed them before arriving asking for a higher floor room this was not done, I did point this out to the young man on reception only to be told they cannot guarantee requests (dont think he was interested)
There are a few routes to beach and harbour, not that far but coming back is quite steep.
Had a couple of meals in evening just ok.
lLovely restaurants near to hotel.
Bus stop close by for transport to Palma and other way to Palmanova and Magaluf, Paguera.
Overall very satisfied and would recommend this hotel for this time of year,
You get waht you pay for, with no serious faults.

Room Tip: higher for views

Thank you very much for your comments. We really appreciate the time you take to put them on writing.
We can assure you that we all do our best to comply with guest´s requests, as long as we have the means and the chances. Unfortunately sometimes we cannot do all we would like to do about this matter. For example, if the majority of guests ask for upper floor rooms it comes to a point that theese rooms are all occupied and we cannot comply with another request until the next departure that liberates one of theese rooms.
Nevertheless we feel sorry about this situation and will try our best to make you and all other guests happy in our house.
Thanks again

We have just come back from a week at this hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel is at the top of the hill up from the marina (OK if you're fit enough), which is full of seriously expensive boats with some shops and restaurants with prices to match. We were pleased with the first impressions of this hotel with its modern décor. The check in process was very fast and efficient but lacking in the niceties one expects on arrival. A complete lack of information was also a problem for a lot of guests, as we were constantly directing people to reception, restaurant, etc. a problem we ourselves had on arrival as the hotel is built into a hill with reception on floor 3 (ground floor at the back). We only discovered the Gym as we were leaving our cases prior to departure. The lack of information was continuous as we were met with a bit of a shrug accompanied with profuse apologies when we asked for a map of the locality and later a bus timetable. The bus service is excellent and easy travel east and west when you suss out the colour coded routes. Food here is European, plentiful and of reasonable quality. The restaurant and bar staff are 1st class but the wine list is seriously limited which is understandable as they regularly get only 1/3rd of the guests that are present at breakfast, dining in the evening. The house wine is however of good quality. The entertainment was almost non existent which is a pity as the pianist we had on our last night was first class. I've awarded 3 and not 4 stars as I feel it didn't quite make it into the VERY good category.
OVERALL
Nice Hotel.Comfortable room & beds. Good food. Good position, great location and surroundings. Friendly staff. Local restaurants nearby are mostly OK with good value local food.
For those who like TV only 3 news channels and Film 4 in English.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best view

We have just returned from a short break at the Marina Portals. We arrived at noon and our room was available immediately! Good start! Room was small......you couldn't walk past each other between the bed and the unit that housed the fridge with the ( VERY out-dated !!) tv on top!
That said, there was ample storage space for a few days clothes, the bathroom was large, shower very powerful and the room was cleaned to a good standard. We had a pool view......but couldn't actually SEE the pool, only the surrounding area as we were directly over the roof of the dining room! Whilst I had read lots of reviews on TA about this hotel, I had only read one mention of the adjoining apartments, to the right of the hotel! I am amazed no-one else has commented on them as they are a complete eyesore!!
We stayed on a B+ B basis and found the breakfast to be great! Plenty to choose from and replenished regularly, right up until just before 10:30am, which was end of breakfast.
All staff we encountered were courteous and professional and always answered any queries we had with a smile.
We were able to make use of the pool area as the weather was great. This area was fine in October.......I wouldn't like to be hunting for a decent sun-bed in August.......they were few and far between and had seen better days!
Because of these few minor glitches.....outdated tv, no tea and coffee facilities in the room, sunbeds needing replacement, and bedrooms also being small and dated, I would rate this hotel a good 3*
Would we visit again? Yes, I think we would......but not in August.....not enough to do....no entertainment in the hotel ( not sure if there was in August? ) and also we didn't feel there would have been enough to do in the area as a whole in August.....although we could be wrong!
All-in-all, this hotel was good value for money for a short break and if we were asked to recommend it, we would! :)

Yhank you very much for choosing our hotel for your short brake in Mallorca..
This area is very appreciated by many people and specially in high season.
It offers the tranquility while it is not far from all the leisure places in the south, like Palma, Palma Nova, Magalluf, etc
It is also next to the beautiful and well known marina of Puerto Portals, a very high standard place for people who like yatchs, luxury shopping and good restaurants and bars, as well as a very clean and nice beach.
And all only a short distance from the Hotel.
You might change your mind if you would visit us in high season.
Thanks for your comments and we will try to improve ourselves to offer you and the rest of our visitors the best service.
Thank you

We spent a week at this hotel at the end of October, 2012. All the rooms have the benefit of balconies and views over the pools and gardens or seaviews on the higher floors. Our room, 233, was large - well furnished and spotless, with sitting/dining area, mini-bar, satellite television, and an excellent bathroom. The restaurant serves a full buffet breakfast to satisfy all European tastes, and in the evening a comprehensive buffet dinner is available at modest cost.
The whole hotel is managed with flair - the restaurant staff perform their duties with friendly competence, Manuel, Maria, Magdalena, and Ellie always welcoming. The foyer bar is usually run by Jesus, who serves coffee or your favourite drink, or recommends local liqueurs with friendliness and style.
If you want a "grand" 4 star hotel on Mallorca, offering discreet elegance, exceptional service, good food and great value, you will not be disappointed here.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a room number ending in *33. On the basis of our experience these are large...

We stayed here for 3 nights on a B&B basis. We looked for somewhere just outside Palma which we could use as a base to explore the area. We thought it was ideal all round. The location is spot on, right at the heart of the pretty resort of Portals Nous. The bus stop is 75 metres from the front door and then a 10/15 minute ride to Palma. Equally, Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa are short hops in the opposite direction. The harbour and Marineland are within easy walking distance, as well as the delightful little beach (although it's not exactly well signposted). It's a large hotel and can take a while to work out what;s available and where it's located. It gives a reassuring, comforting first impression with it's marble floors and tasteful, traditional Spanish decor. The staff were very helpful and polite and the buffet breakfast was top drawer with a large choice on offer. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we had the pool view that we requested. The pool itself is well laid out and nicely proportioned with plenty of sunbeds. We did our research before we went and turned up trumps. A thoroughly enjoyable experience all round.

I stayed here with my daughter and we loved it. The room was large and clean with a good view. Great swimming pool, with another one especially for kids. There is a pool side snack bar selling ice cream, chips, sandwiches and alcohol, what more could you need. Its only a short walk to the marina where there are some good, but expensive bars. The choice of breakfast was incredible

Room Tip: Get a taxi from airport, we decided to get a bus, although there's a bus stop right outside you...
