“Brilliant ApartHotel in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

Yes - we were real guests ( Room 117 3rd - 10th Feb). Booked this via Thomson holidays last September on a great deal. When we arrived we were shown a room at the rear of the hotel & over the kitchens. A quick word with reception & they quickly found us a couple of alternative rooms available with better views one of which was a newly refurbished room at the front of the hotel directly overlooking the sea. Fantastic !. Cost us 20 euro a night to upgrade but worth every bit of that.

The hotel is positioned at the quiet end of Palma Nova ( ie opposite end to Magaluf) but the whole resort was very quiet and Magaluf itself was deserted. There is a range of small shops nearby and a larger Mercadona supermarket just a short walk away. It is up a small hill so if you are not mobile it could be a hassle.

Room was clean, modern, spacious and quiet. The hotel was quite busy whilst we were there with a major cycling event going on - our hotel hosted the Movistar team. However we didnt suffer any intrusive noise or poor service. The staff were brilliant, especially front of house. We self catered so didnt eat in the hotel restaurant at all. The kitchenette in the room is fine but it does need a kettle. Luckily we had read Trip Advisor prior to coming and brought our own. If you are careful you can do toast on the electric rings !

Contrary to previous reviews the Wi Fi service worked fine - its free in the lounge & bar / lobby area but you pay for it in the room.

Nice warm indoor pool - outdoor pool fantastic but too cold in Feb.

Would we come back - you bet !. Majorca in Feb is fantastic, quiet, awash with Almond blossom and with good bus services etc. Very few Brits because the big tour firms have withdrawn flights in winter & sent our lot off to the Canaries. Our European neighbours have taken advantage & we met lots of interesting German, Swiss, French & Dutch people mainly out for the excellent walking & cycling.

Best of both worlds - quiet, good quality hotel perfect for a relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday but only a short walk to Palma Nova for restaurants/bars etc. 25 mins on bus to Palma for culture etc. Great shower, comfy beds, nice balcony. Only small negative room-wise was lack of toaster or grill. Pool and terrace area had beautiful views, lots of loungers (although this was September) and we normally like to do lots of excursions on holiday but this place was so nice we pretty much spent the whole week at the hotel! If you're definitely NOT looking for party central and just want to relax, this is the place for you.

We got upgraded to a superior room when we arrived, bathroom felt new, but otherwise there was nothing extraordinary. Hotel is suitable for family with children aged 4-12, with some quiet entertainment, also with scandinavian speaking staff. (I would not recommend it for younger couples.) There was also plenty of sunbeds, and not at all crowded by the pool. Nice view.
We could hear our neighbours at all times, the glass bathroom door was weird, weak hairdryer, uncomfortable beds. We gave our creditcard number when booking on the net, and still had to pay for our stay when we checked out which made us believe that we had paid twice. The restaurant breakfast was nothing more than "ok", and was dissappointing to us. When the staff making the warm food was asked if she could do omelettes she refused. They also stopped making fresh warm food after 9:15 altough breakfast was served until 10, which resulted in cold dry pancakes etc. that noone ate.
Pool was cold until after 15:00 in the afternoon. Shop in the hotel closed at 18:00.

This hotel is really good, its in a great location although it is up a small hill!
The hotel is great for couples and families, its clean, friendly and relaxing.
The swimming pool overlooks the sea and the beach is just a short walk away.
The only compliant if I had to make one would be the beds could be more comfortable. There's plenty of bars, shops and restuarants nearby and magaluf is a short taxi ride away costing around £4.00.

I enjoyed my stay at the Ponent Mar, its a great apartment hotel in a quiet area on the edge of Palma Nova but its only a 2 min walk to the beach and the shops. The pool and gardens are both well looked after with a fantastic view over the sea. Everything was clean and the rooms were cleaned every day. The couple of negatives I have are that the beds were slightly hard and the cooking facilities only consisted of a couple of electric rings, no oven, no electric kettle, no microwave. Apparently you can rent a microwave and kettle.from reception but i only found out about this at the end of the stay. I would definantly recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel due to the great reviews on tripadvisor and on the basis that it was a 4 star hotel. When I arrived I could have been forgiven for thinking I'd been transported back in time to 1978. The facilities in the room where practically neolithic. An ancient air con system, a switch on the wall to listen to radio that I think may have last been used during WW2, a non-functioning hair dryer and only 3 plug sockets which were all hidden behind a cabinet. Also, there was no safe in the room. We had to use a communal safe room where everyone could see exactly what you had in your safe. That's if you could actually fit anything into the ridiculously sized safes provided. Disappointing would be an understatement.

We have stayed at Ponent Mar three times now. Great clean self catering studio. Best place we have stayed in Majorca.

Hotel
Studio rooms have wonderful views over the bay (if you pay for a sea view - well worth the money) Cleaners come six days out of seven, make the beds, sometimes even washed a few dishes we had left in the sink, clean towels every day unless you left them folded and 'unused' looking. We are happy to do this for every other day. Floors swept, even balcony floor. All in hall this hotel is VERY clean, which is a big must for me.
Rooms have air conditioning, TV, 2 single beds pushed together and a sofa bed. Kitchen area has all utensils needed even scissors! No kettle or toaster, but our family bought one for 11 euro down the road and bring it every year. We boil water in pot its no big deal. Plenty of cups plates bowls, even salt cellar etc (without the salt of course lol)

Pool
Massive pool. Two childrens pools one at each end so you can always get a sun lounger near a kids pool. The 'big pool' also has a large shallow entrance. There is a lifeguard on duty at all times. No big rush for sun loungers at all, you can always get. Never had any issues bringing own drinks or lollies to poolside... which i think is only fair if you are booking a self catering holiday, you want to SELF cater after all. Pool was not rowdy at all, nice and calm, mixture of nationalities here, from english, scottish to american, morrocan, dutch, danish you name it which was nice. We do not like hotels full of kids running riot while their parents get drunk, does anyone??

Pool side Restaurant
Never have I been to a hotel with such a reasonably priced poolside bar and 'restaurant. I say restaurant as it IS a typical looking restaurant rather than poolside bar. Waiter service, typical lunch is about 5 euro for Burger fries and side salad. There is paella cooked one day in the week in front of you. The quality was fantastic. Toasties etc approx 3 euros.

Entertainment & Staff
Usual water polo comps, pool comps etc, flamingo dancing, singers etc at night.
Staff in this hotel are very friendly and helpful. Paula lovely girl shes been there all the times we have went, infact most of the staff are the same, must be nice to work for, We met one scottish couple who have been so many times the manager/owner had them round for a bbq at his home, so this is the kind of friendliness I mean about the staff in general.

Location
Is fab. Full stop. It is at opposite end of Palmanova from Magaluf. Need I say more. There are fabulous places to eat right around the corner, may I recomment Mocubar, Real Dion, and if you go to end of the beachfront closer to Son Matias hotel lovely italian called Vicorys and a nice chinese restaurant overlooking the beach...we like to eat out lol. Lovely crepe bar just next to a fab Indian restaurant just round from hotel also. Marineland is 5 euro away in a taxi, get the discount vouchers in the airport before heading to the hotel, its good but watch you dont get burnt.

We didnt eat in the buffet restaurant at night but heard others half board say it was lovely and had fabulous puddings. There is a supermarket also which is well stocked, fresh bread daily etc. If you go out of hotel and turn right and walk for 5 min through the residential area of Son Caliu you will find a big supermarket called Mercadona which is alot cheaper than those around the resort, we bought lollies and icecreams for the kids to put in the freezer part of fridge in the apartment.

Ponent Mar also offer a better exchange rate than at home which is a bonus.
Some other reviews mention the towels, I mean, come on, its Spain, its hot, you dont take much drying!!!

Well I think Ive covered everything. I really couldnt recommend this place enough. If you like somewhere like us which is VERY clean, close to the beach and good restaurants, and not noisy then Ponent Mar is the place for you.
