“The hotel I keep going back to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2010

My family and I return to this hotel three or four times a year.
This hotel is located right next to one of the best harbours/ports in Europe Portals Nous, with Michelin star restaurants and coffee shops a must for everybody (Do not be surprised to see somebody famous here). The waterproof towels is true! but if you go down to reception with 5 euros deposit they will give you a luxury towels for your room.
Rooms and hotel is kept very clean.
Entertainment, is okay, the Spanish dancing is a must see.
Reception staff, always willing to help.
WiFi Internet is excellent and if you book direct with the hotel, it is Free.
The hotel has a Private car park this is ideal for your car hire, most of the hotels around the area have street parking, during summer months there is a lack of street parking and if you illegally parked your car expect it to be towed away and they €200 fine for your troubles.
Food in this hotel is reasonably priced but would recommend eating out. You are walking distance from McDonald's, pizzas for kids or a romantic night out at the port with your loved one.
The hotel has two excellent swimming pools.
Plenty of sun beds available.
Recommended upgrade your room to a new modern one. Refurbished in 2009.
Limited English channels on the TV, sky News only!! But due to be upgraded in 2010, so I have been told.
I do agree there is better hotels within the area, but for value for money I can assure you that this one is the best.

Just got back from another lovely holiday on the island of Majorca. This is the second time we have stayed in Palma Nova and we find it caters well for Families of all ages. The Ponent Mar is a lovely, spacious and clean hotel. The staff were friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are clean and spacious we had a 1 bedroom apartment which had ample room for a family of 4 with a large balcony looking over the sea. We didnt eat in the restaurant but had snacks from the poolside bar which was lovely. The entertainment staff were great Bahman the sports co ordinater was good fun and both my 9 year old son and husband were encouraged to join in with the activities. The pool was large and had enough sunbeds for everyone. The only thing i would say is that the evening entertainment could be better. There are all nationalities at this hotel which is great because my son met people from all over the world. I would definately go back to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

We just spent 12 days at the Ponent Mar. It was our first trip there and we took 3 teenage boys in 2 self catering rooms. Yes, as previously mentioned the towels are thin and yes, there is only one spare power point but they are the only negative points. The hotel is clean and well run with every facility that you would want. Our family enjoyed their stay and would visit again.
Pool clean and large.
Supermarket well stocked.
Washing machine , dryer and iron.
Fantastic location.
Receptionists very helpful.
Daily cleaning.
Internet at 1 euro for 15 minutes. WiFi expensive, 50 euros!
A great find!!!

We have stayed at the Ponent Mar a number of times over the last few years, the service and facilities are excellent. Staff are friendly and have been working there for some time so some remember you from previous visits. The hotel is located at the top of a steep hill however taxis do not cost much from the taxi rank at Palma Nova if you cant face the climb. The hotel is far enough away from the centre to be very quiet and relaxed, but a 5/10 min walk sees you in the action (20 mins to Magaluf)
Rooms would benefit from a kettle and toaster. Overall a great hotel

Just got back from four days at the Ponent Mar. This hotel had a couple of bad points on the reviews in read before we went- hotel towels and lack of electric points. I have to agree with both these points, but everything else more than makes up for it. The breakfast was good, plentiful and excellent variety. There were also sunbeds available all day, whatever time. The rooms with seaview were stunning, a view across the bay. Most guests were German which we don't find a problem as it means the quality is good. The only bad thing for us is that we had to come home. We would strongly recommend it, probably more so for couples than families as the pool was not huge.

The hotel is situated in one of the best spots in Palma Nova so you get great views across the bay. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. The pool and pool area are excellent, you can always get a sunbed and it is never crowded so you often get the pool to yourself. The hotel has its own supermarket which comes in handy for drinks, snacks, etc. and the snackbar by the pool is very reasonable - hot dog and chips or burger and chips for 3-4 euros - with views across the whole of Palma Nova. We had a one bedroom apartment with sea view, which was a little dated but perfectly adequate and the view was more of the pool with the sea beyond which was slightly disappointing. The only minor niggles are the towels, the lack of childrens entertainment and turning the balcony lights off at 11pm - which is annoying if you are enjoying a drink at the time. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and are looking forward to going back in the future.

We booked this aparthotel on the strength of the favourable reviews on this site. After a five night stay there, we cannot see what all the fuss is about, if ever a place was over - hyped it is this one. This is an average apartment complex which is extremely overpriced. Staff on the reception and in the bar seem to be efficient and personable. The maid working our landing was a miserable old boot who didn't even show any acknowlegement. We paid £400 for the 5 nights and in Palma Nova at the end of October, this is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. We had a one bedroom apartment with sea view - it was room 602 and it probably has one of the best views in the complex, which was a positive, so if you must stay here, it may be worthwhile asking for this room. You pay extra for the view and we could tell that other rooms would have had a view blocked by the trees. The room was large, but only had one electrical socket hidden behind a sideboard in the living room. The toilet wouldn't flush properley and the walls were very thin, noises and voices carried from both inside the apartment and from on the balconies. The apartment needs updating / upgrading. Whenever the window was open the doors in the apartment rattled incessantly in their frames, even when they were properly closed. It is true what other reviewers have said about the waterproof towels..they have to be experienced to be believed. The safety deposit boxes are in the reception area and this is a major inconvenience, they ought to be in the rooms where you can access them whenever you want to, instead of having to trek down to the lobby. The complex is a fair old walk into Palma Nova (and uphill on the way back) so if you are thinking of staying here you will have to make this trek to get to the 'facilities' of the resort. Most of the other guests seemed to be middle aged and middle class Scandinavians (heaven knows what they were doing in this resort) which , apart from the small area close to where the Ponent Mar is,seems to be frequented by roaming packs of the most downmarket tattooed underclass. There are wall to wall bars showing constant football or the tackiest of the tacky...karaoke. If you really want to see our tourists in all their glory though, take a walk into the neighbouring hell that is Magaluf, because Palma Nova is like St. Tropez in comparison. Won't be back to this grim resort in a hurry and wouldn't stay in Ponent Mar if we did..not because we had any particular problems because we didn't, but I'm sure that there are better (and cheaper) places to stay. Future bookers take note and don't believe the hype about this place, and end up paying through the nose for somewhere distinctly ordinary.

  • Liked — good sea view, nice class of guests
  • Disliked — poor sound insulation, lack of safe in the room, rattling doors!
