“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

11 of us stayed in this hotel for my hen weekend in May 2015. The hotel was perfect for us. It was in a good location - close by not too close to the action. It was clean and the pool / bar area was lovely. The rooms were a bit small but we didnt spend much time in them other than to sleep and change. All of the staff were good and really friendly. The view of the sea from the pool area was also gorgeous.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view or even upgrade to one of the higher level rooms

Stayed here with 3 friends for a long weekend. We had two 3 bed apartments with 2 persons in each - 2 single beds and a sofa bed. Sofa bed was large and suitable for an adult. Room, bathroom and balcony all a decent size and very clean. Basic kitchen facility with kettle, toaster, pans etc. and 2 ring hob.

Reception were efficient and friendly throughout our stay despite us coming back in the early hours most nights (albeit quietly).

Hotel has a lovely outside pool which was immaculate and had numerous comfortable loungers. There is a low glass wall around the pool area which provides protection from the wind without disrupting the great views over the bay and surrounding area. There is also a small indoor pool which is ok for splashing about but not serious swimming. I believe there is a gym but never tried it.

We didn't eat in the hotel but did have a drink in the evening, bar staff were again friendly and efficient. A little pricier than some local bars but still good value and you are more likely to get the genuine product. Some local bars may have JD etc. but that isn't necessarily what you get!

In the surrounding area there are lots of decent places to eat for all budgets and any type of food. Only thing we couldn't find was a decent Tapas place (in Spain!). If you want to try Magaluf this is a 30 min walk away and it's a nice walk following the bays, or short taxi ride (5 to 7 Euros depending on time of day). Palma is a 30 min bus ride (stop is 5 min walk) and 3 euros or around 22 Euros by taxi in day, 28 at night. Taxi to the airport cost us 35 Euros early Mon morning and took around 30 mins.

Room Tip: Ask for a room directly overlooking bay.

We stayed here over Easter and had a fabulous holiday. As well seasoned travellers, always booking carefully but with no preconceptions as such, we have to admit that this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in a Spanish resort. Cleaned daily and with superb views, our room adequately suited us - 2 adults and 3 children. The staff were helpful, location excellent, food superb and we returned feeling relaxed and tanned. Will recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates a base with fabulous sea and mountain vistas; 20 minutes bus ride into the lovely city of Palma and a stone's throw from superb beaches. If you want 5 * luxury and money is no object, go and find it, but this hotel suited us perfectly as we aren't snobs and love a bargain. Would imagine that it could get rather busy in the summer months, but as our annual Easter break, it was fine.

Room Tip: Quieter and cheaper rooms are facing the mountains and would possibly be better in the summer months...

Stayed here as part of the Stephen Roche Cycling camp and was very impressed. Lovely big room, really clean, great views, amazing food (cycled around 20 hours over the week and still put on weight), lovely staff.

Room Tip: We went for a kind of apartment, although we didn't use the cooking facility, but it was very sp...

Stayed here as part of the Stephen Roche training camp (which is based at this hotel).

Good hotel with nice rooms that is currently stuck in the 90's. However after closing its doors for winter in 2014 it has now finally entered a renovation phase, with rooms being updated.
The pool area was gutted and updated for the 2014 season and it showed. Really nice now with some money thrown at it to bring it into the 21st century.

I still love staying here though because as a cycling training hub it is idea to access the majority of the Southern part of the Island.

The staff are friendly, if a little bit detached sometimes, but are attentive and will bend over backwards to help. The food is good, with the chef providing a buffet style offering which has fish, various mystery meats, great desserts and cheeses. Breakfasts are plentiful and good.

Yes, the hotel is stuck in some earlier period but it is slowly being updated and there are worse. All in all a great experience which is why this is my second year here.

Room Tip: Spend a bit more money and get rooms under the pool. These have been updated first and are really r...

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Ponent Mar hotel and I can honestly say it must have been built in the 1960's because there is has remained, it is tired and old and in desperate need of modernizing. First of all we where greeted by a man on reception whose words where "name.....passports", no hello welcome to the Ponent Mar hotel my name is .... how can I help you, in short the front of house staff at the hotel are not particularly approachable.

Once checked in I asked about safety deposit boxes to which it was 15 euros per week plus 3 euros deposit for the key? This is ridiculous and should be free, the safety deposit boxes are not even in your room, they are all just to the right of reception, you then have to carry a key around with you everywhere to keep it safe unless you hide it somewhere, time they modernized this and got code lockable boxes in each room thus avoiding the need for keys or the trip to the safety deposit box room every time you need your money or jewelry etc.

The biggest problem though with the Ponent Mar hotel is the constant noise, you can hear everything and everyone, I have never stayed in a hotel so noisy, we where in room 414 which is on the ground floor, we where up woken every morning to the sounds of washing machines, staff shouting at each other at 5am outside our door, constant banging of doors and movement of furniture from the rooms next to us and above us, you can here every word the people in the next rooms are saying, we asked to move but where told we would have to pay more money to upgrade and that the hotel is very full.

The rooms are basic and very tired and old fashioned, it kind of feels like your in hospital, with white walls and white tiled floors and random switches that don't do anything on the walls, we had a studio room which had a very basic kitchenette, kettle, microwave, toaster, 2 ring hob, sink, fridge and utensils and crockery. The beds are very hard and cheap and uncomfortable, if you don't have back and neck problems before you go, you might when you leave. The balcony is big but has dirty old plastic patio furniture on it. The rooms are kept very clean however with fresh towels and clean bed lining everyday apart from sundays and the cleaners are very polite and friendly. The air conditioning is excellent and keeps the room lovely and cool and you can turn it on or off yourself. The TV has 4 english channels if you like watching TV on holiday.

The hotel pool area is very nice but has very uncomfortable plastic sun loungers around it, the view from the pool is beautiful. The pool is very deep in the middle, please be careful if you have small children, I am 6ft tall and couldn't stand up in the middle of the pool, there is a life guard on duty but they spend allot of time looking at there phones and and not the pool, I saw a number of children struggle to swim across the pool centre and did not get told to stay at the edge by the life guard.

I only had food once at the hotel and never again, we had lunch by the pool restaurant, it was very basic choice, everything came with chips of course and it was over priced and not particularly good. The hotel is located up a steep hill, if you have access problems then this might not be the best choice, the hotel does have ramps and lifts but you still have to get too and from the hotel if you go out. It is very close to the beach and more restaurants and shops and bars than you can visit in 2 weeks which is good and Palmanova is lovely.

DON'T TAKE ANYTHING VALUABLE TO THE BEACH!! There are now unfortunately an number of pick pockets and opportunist thief's in the area praying on the tourists, we watched an event where a couple stole another couples bag off the beach but the police and life guards managed to get the bag back. Please be careful with you belongings.

Internet only works in reception which in 2014 is ridiculous, they also have those awful pay as you use computers running windows XP, time to modernize Ponent Mar hotel and catch up with the rest of the world with complimentary internet or at least the option to pay in your room to use it.

This hotel dreams of being a 4 star but is barely a 2 star, book it if you want but you have been warned!!

First time at the Ponent Mar-we will go back!! Here are some of the reasons;
First the location-sitting on a headland with the large pool area looking out to sea through a glass screen. The hotel is close to the town but far enough to be quiet with plenty of sun loungers-no need to book with towels! Towels are available at reception for a deposit of 5 euros each and 2euro per day payable on return. There is a poolside cafe open 12:30-3:00. There are 3 floors below the pool area with superior studios at the bottom and 2 floors of apartments above. We had a superior sea view studio with a great view of Palmanova.
The staff were great ( and this includes all the staff) including Manuel,JuanFantastico,Cherif in the bar with Angel and Eusabio in the restaurant-sorry if I have missed anyone!
The outdoor restaurant (separate Payment even for those on half board) is well worth visiting.
We were half board and because many people are self catering the range of food options is limited although superior studio included water and house wine with dinner! More people eat breakfast in the restaurant which was fine.
Palmanova has a very pleasant size with a great range of restauants-however as others have mentioned there is a hill down to the town! There is also a handy taxi rank for the return journey!(if needed)
All in all a great hotel given location, staff, food, pool area and proximity to the town! We will RETURN!

Room Tip: most rooms around the pool have a sea view-particularly the upper ones. The superior studios on the...
