I booked the Aparthotel Playas ca's saboners from some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and also reading about the hotel from its own website over a year ago. We were four lady friends ranging in age from 47yrs to 49yrs. On arrival and first impressions the reception area was spotlessly clean and I could not fault it. This followed through to the bar/breakfast area and the small on site shop. Proceeding through to an outside area with pool tables and an eternal eatery come entertainment area. This led on again to a wonderful pool area with sufficient sunloungers for the sun worshippers. What let it down was the room, I know we are talking about 3* accommodation but I dont believe it deserved this, I would rate this area as 2* max. The beds in the bedroom where decent and comfortable to sleep in however the sofa's that converted into beds in the lounge area where thin and most uncomfortable to sleep on. Pillows and towels were desirable, Our pillow cases were stained and some with rips, and the most bizzare shape of pillow along with being extremely hard. Our towels were a mixture of stained and non stained, you could tell that some were from people who had chose to colour their hair while abroad or nails etc. The bathroom had tiles missing from the wall and big cracks against the wall nearest to the bath. There was also a lot of rust in our bath and around the metal area of the plug hole and over flow area. The cupboards had not been cleaned properly or wiped down and I even found the last guests boxers still in the top of the wardrobe along with a pair of socks in the draw. I am not a snob far from it, and I am one who says pay basic you receive basic, but then most I have stayed in dont rate themselves with stars and thats a huge difference of what to expect from a hotel. From reviews previously read this appeared to be a family hotel and well ran, but of recent after my booking of over a year ago it seems to have turned its attention to more hen and stag events which appeared unfair to those who had chosen a family holiday to have young ones in the pool with a bunch of arrogant italians diving in and playing beach volley with a hard ball that no parent felt safe enough to let their child remain there. There are a couple of life guards that attend more so life guard appealing than others who seem to appear from within the cafe area when a complaint was being made yet another would sit for hours at the poolside monitoring everything. This hotel could have a lot to offer but needs to get its priorities right, does it change itself to a hen and stag hotel or go back to being a family hotel as it appears from being out there for a week it cant do both. The rooms are dated and need a refurbish and a good clean/paint. Cooker tops are in need of a good change and a fridge with an ice compartment would be far more suited being self catering. This place in its present condition is ideal for hen or stag parties who need to sleep all day and party all night therefore not giving the accommodation a second glance. However for those who wish to enjoy where they stay and take pleasure out of what accommodation has to offer then this is not the place for you. Hat off to the night Security Guard he was wonderful and made sure people were removed from their balcony at midnight if they were not quiet.
Tips on where to shop: Use the Spar shop just down the road maybe small but fab deals on water 65c 1.5ltr, e1.20 5ltr e4.50 for 6 cans of San Miguel twice the price as hotel shop and next door, and better still if want a walk go past spar to cake shop on right omg to die for (they do sell cakes at shop next to hotel but again nearly twice the cost) and better still go past that to the bottom junction and turn right up the hill and the Spanish supermarket is on the left this is much cheaper and used by all the locals.
Eating out: First choice for us was acutally ranked lower than our second choice but I always say eat were the locals eat and a lot eat here, its called Goya Viana it caters for most, the lasagne is beautiful but then its owner is Italian with a Spanish chef on board. The Paella a fraction of the cost to elsewhere but so flavoursome. T.bone steak wonderful, chicken curry full of succulant pieces of chicken breast and they do gorgeous tripple cooked as chef says "propa" chips. It caters both english and european but if you are also looking for that little missed english breakfast then you wont be let down here, real english sausage, back bacon, fried bread and english tea. Second choice is Chi Lounge Malloca - Beautiful fish restaurant on the beach front upstairs with cosy sofa seating down stairs. It is quite expensive for a full fish platter but from this being packed out most nights shows in itself how wonderful the food is. Third Soprano's which was quite fitting and fourth Godfather Steak House.
Drinks: Plaza bar far end Palma, Ruby Tuesdays, Scotmans, Welsh Bar, Eastenders all good places as long as you dont end up on the Magaluf strip. Enjoy this one was a bit of an eye opener for all.
