“Met many returning couples during our 4th stay at this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We stayed for 12 nights commencing 2 May. The previous 4 reviews are generally very fair and I would generally agree with them. As one review mentioned there are 3 blocks in this hotel and the rear 2 blocks and the pool/pool bar and tv lounge can only be reached by a fight of 15 fairly steep steps, so beware if you have walking difficulties or toddlers in buggies. I am not a fussy eater but the food was mixed both excellent and at times indifferent, the fish was generally disappointing. similarly the evening entertainment , which starts at 10pm was mixed with too many silly movie quizzes and karaoke.

Pros
Superb location (the min selling point) opposite the beach close to shops and buses.
Very friendly hard working staff.
Spacious bedrooms, many with balcony and sea view.
Very generous measures of spirits not watered down but the cocktails come pre prepared in a box and are not freshly mixed.
Snacks, tea, coffee, drinks crisps, popcorn ,ice cream and delicious chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon at the pool bar.
Superb value for the price that we paid.
Many couples return every May and Sept/Oct.

Cons
15 steps up to pool bar and 2 rear blocks.
Apparently, there may not be any kids entertainment this year which disappointed a few couples during our stay. In previous years the hotel has had great kids entertainers.
Pool area is very small and too many sunbed jammed in makes it difficult to move, probably hard to get a sun bed in high season
No hair driers or tv in the bedrooms.
The furniture in the lounge is badly worn and uncomfortable to sit on and is apparently going to be replaced.
WiFi costs €5 per day or €20 per week and if you want high speed access the cost is 50% more. Note McDonalds across the road has free Wifi.

My wife and I have just returned from the Tropico on 11th May 2013. We arrived in the early hours in pouring rain so couldn't,t judge the hotel then, but the next morning we went for breakfast and looked around. The staff were all very pleasant especially Nesto the night man, Xisco and Atilla the barmen, and in the restaurant Pedro and Geraldine were only too happy to accommodate your every need. It was the start of their season so for the first 3 days the food was fine but not exceptional. After that the food was really good and plenty of choices and the season was in full swing. The evening entertainment was excellent and varied, some fine singers,a magician, a novelty parrot show, quizzes, tribute acts and even Leapy Lea.The measures are huge and strong and the beer is in pint glasses until 11 30 then plastic ones till midnight. The pool bar is open at 10. 30 till 5. 30 with all the drinks you need plus sandwiches, crisps, snacks and tea coffee,or slushes. The pool area is a little small but you always seem to find a bed,if not there are tables, chairs or a lounge area with TV. We had a really good time at the Tropico (except for a few rowdy girls) and we would definitely go back again. The only people who moaned were the ones who paid for a 2.5 holiday yet expected 5 star service. Beach, shops, bars and restaurants (but you won t need them) are right outside the door.I would like to say Thank You Tropico we really enjoyed our stay and would go back there like a shot.

2 adults with a 5 year and 2 year old.
This was our 1st time in Palma nova and had read so many varying reviews on this hotel. The hotel only reopened 2 weeks ago after the end of the Oct/Nov season last year so any reviews you read from anyone staying here between these periods must be leaving reviews about this hotel accidentally.
We arrived late Friday night, and had booked a Family room. The night porter was very friendly. When we got to our room , we noticed that we were missing one bed. The porter was more than helpful so I just asked for the 2nd single bed for the following day which arrived 1st thing in the morning. The room is very clean and ours was at the very front, so had a fantastic view of the beach , only issue would be road noise.
Anyone who says there isn't a good variety of food at breakfast , lunch or dinner have to be very fussy and I can be a fussy eater. My advise- try a bit of something you normally would eat and find out how the Spanish cook their food.
The pool bar is open from 10ish in the morning were you can enjoy your drinks and snacks until 5pm. We didn't bothering using the pool as the beach is a stones throw away , and so close you can go back over for the ice cream or drinks whenever you feel like. No kids club, but that didn't bother us. The nightly entertainment was very good and the couches in the lobby were perfect for the kids.
The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Pedro and Geraldine. This hotel gets guests coming back all the time from Ireland, England, Sweden, Germany and all over, so just because its "All Inclusive" it doesn't attract the typical lager louts much.
If you cannot manage a lot of steps, ask for a room in the 1st building as the lift is close to reception , otherwise you will have to climb a nice few steps to get to the 2nd block.
Overall , this hotel is in the best location, great value for money and friendly staff.
We will be returning to the Tropico next year , and that is a 1st for us.
Oh and another thing, there are so many playgrounds in Palma Nova the kids will never get bored.

We as a couple are just back from a short 5 day stay in hotel Tropico Playa. The location is superb, right on palma nova's main thoroughfare. It is now an all inclusive hotel with NO Armbands!!! The hotel is split in to 2 sections with a 3rd block at the back( no views here)
Although All inclusive it differs slightly from other AI hotels. Snacks of sandwiches ,cakes, lollies, icecream, yummy choki biscuits, free crisps and popcorn are only served in the bar area from 10.30 -5pm by a lovely senora Lola. The bar /pool area is up quite steep stairs and there is no lift so should you want a drink and sit watching the world go by on the terrace you have to go up there and back to the terrace. Perhaps later in the season the hotel may consider having similar facilities in the lounge area.. A great thing was that there were no sunbed wars as the pool did not open until strictly 9.30am!There was a wide range of foods on offer in the restaurant& staff were very pleasant especially Pedro who greeted you every day with a smile. Geraldine being originally from NI was always pleasant, very efficient and could serve the bar as well! The season here has only begun so there were staff issues and changes were afoot. A daily post of what was on was great to read. Clean, tidy rooms. All you need 4 a great holiday!!

Room Tip: The rooms at the very front above terrace are for families or 3/more beds. Disabled people and famil...

I have just returned from staying at this hotel.........We got our holiday as a bargain, And I could not have been more pleased with the service, food and the location of this hotel. The staff from checking in to leaving were helpful and friendly. The food, as with all inclusive holidays can become repetitive..But I could always find something I liked at all meal times. The hotel is not a boutique style hotel, No tv's or tea making facilities in the room. But for the price we paid, This was not a problem. The night time enterainment was good but not always to my personel taste. Overall I would go back and yes I would recommend this hotel to my friends. We travelled as a group of 6 people (50 -60 years old) I could not see many things for families to do inside the hotel but its Palma Nova and anyone could be entertained within a minute of walking outside the hotel. Thank you Tropico Playa for a wonderful week in the sun

Room Tip: We had room in the main block, Not much of a view........Ask for a sea facing view if possible

After reading the reviews for this hotel, i was well apprehensive but on arrival i must admit that if this hotel was poor in the past - they have listened and changed big time. The hotel is clean, efficient and staff are extra friendly. Hotel has just re-opened for the summer and we couldn't fault them. Staff are always on hand to assist when required, bars are open till midnight, food was good with plenty of choice and the cost of this hotel is reasonable. Its location makes it an excellent base for palma nova / magaluf and it is right on the beach with plenty of rooms offering a sea view. I would definately recommend this hotel to others and will be staying at this hotel again.

We arrived the day the hotel opened this season, and from the start we could not have been happier. The staff were the friendliest I have ever encountered abroad, they could not do enough for you. The room was clean, simple but spacious. Their was always a great selection of food - the chips are fab! Their lasagna was awful, but nothing's 100 spot on all the time. It rained a lot in the first few days so we did spend a fair bit of time in the hotel, and it did not tire. I know a lot of previous reviews said the spirits were watered down, but our group did not find this to be the case. When the waiter asks you if you're sure u want the absinthe, take heed! A few harsh hangovers were had....
The hotel is literally over the road from the beach and Magalluf only a 20 min stroll away. McDonald's over the road and plenty of shops.
Overall, this hotel was an absolute bargain for what we paid. I would definitely recommend to others. Pedro the waiter was always so very happy and helpful, the hotel was clean, their is no problem with the food and the booze plentiful and strong!
