“Ok but not 4 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

Had a pleasant 10 day holiday at the Marina Terranova.. Great food, and couldn't fault that or the staff in the dinning hall.. Very good A La Carte too..Disappointing entertainment, geared around kids, every night was kids disco, bingo, then in house entertainment by guest or staff, the odd outside show.. Adequate room although not worth 4 stars at all, House Service was not good, forgot to leave towels frequently and floors weren't cleaned...

Probably wouldn't stay again

We stayed here for 3 nights end of Sep - Oct 13.
Our impressions of the hotel are sullied as we had a rubbish maid, our room wasn't really clean, hairs all over the balcony, and one day a ripped towel was the 'new' exchange one given. See the attached photos. I've also hosted some pictures on another forum due to TA restrictions on size of images http://majorcaforum.forumsmotion.com/t6067p45-marina-torrenova-hotel-2012#154639 if it helps.
Otherwise the staff were friendly and helpful.
Food. Well, the breakfast was as good as you can get without going up to 5 star IMO. Proper bacon that was show cooked. Bucks fizz available. A great selection of all the other main things. But the other meals were hit and miss. Chicken drumsticks *in batter* was offered one day?? But the next day they did a very tasty Jamaican beef curry, with curried rice cooked paella style, with fresh show cooked noodles and stir fry vegetables. A good kids selection (evenings only) (pizzas were good), and a reasonable diet/diabetic/vegetarian offering.

We had a bit of a sea view from our room, the pool view rooms are an upgrade at €6 per night, and the 'superior' rooms, with sea view, were an extra €10 per night upgrade.
Rooms are a bit on the small side.
Mattresses appeared to be of the 'memory foam' type, and a good nights sleep was had. Only one wafer thin pillow though, so had to bulk up with the spare blanket.
Sunbeds were new and of a good quality, with 4 adjustment levels on the backrests. (see pic)

Overall, IMO, the hotel is just a plain old 3 star, with a few plus points, but not enough good points to warrant a 4 star status.
No free wi-fi.
All inclusive snacks only available 11.00am - 18.00pm.
Room towels are several years old.
No pool towels.
Rubbish TV with not enough channels, only 3 English ones, BBC1, ITV4, & CBBC (BBC4 at night sometimes).
Room lighting is too dark. Energy saving bulbs account for some of this but not lighting is insufficient.
Air con in room only just sufficient, on full blast all the time.

I'd go again if the deal was good though, we didn't pay a lot for the stay, (booked DIY), nothing wrong with 3 star, just don't expect true 4 star level.

First of all the good points.Check in Ok Food good but had better at 3* hotel in centre of Palma Nova.We booked direct with hotel a Superior Sea View room, paid quite a lot more than I would have normally so was expecting a good hotel. All staff were polite and helpfull
The room was Ok for a couple don't know how any children would have slept unless climbing over each other! Did have comfy beds, tea making facilities, extra charge, safe extra charge.
Wi Fi extra charge for a 4* hotel?.
View from room was a sea view but was directly over the road which we did not realise so noisy . Everywhere was advertised you could upgrade to Sea View or Pool View so don't know what a standard room was like???
Hotel was in good location for beach and nightlife.

Bad points.
The restaurant closed at 9pm! So had to rush from beach to room to get to eat, normally in hotels we have stayed the closing time is 10pm. Breakfast also closed a bit early and everything was rushed away to get you out ASAP, no snacks in day?

No bottled water to take to room at night, we normally ask for bottles to take to beach no problem with other hotels in Palma Nova.

Plastic Glasses, small plastic glasses everywhere even at the bar inside hotel. Can understand around pool but in the hotel bar? Only small gasses so everybody used to have 2 drinks at once so not to be at the bar every 10 minutes. Hate to think how many glasses, no plastic cups, were around in high season?

Entertainment ????????
We stayed 10 nights and only had a Rod Stewart act that was only an hour long, the rest was the reps trying to do something first kids club then BINGO every night. Went out nearly every night, All Inclusive means not having to spend money but we had to All Inclusive?

Stayed by pool one day luckily only one!

Booked this hotel as 4* might have been at one time but not now, seems to have been run at a budget to save money. The evening entertainment? should have been an outside act every night. The manager tried his best to deal with complaints, I saw plenty but it was not his fault.

This hotel was previousl a Thomson Super Family hotel, not any more? but is not advertised as family hotel by Marina hotels.

I don't normally write bad reviews and was a misled this time and won't be coming back. Don't think I will book with another Marina hotel either.
The hotel needs to visit others in Palma Nova and pick up a few points, no a lot of points!

Won't be back, sorry.

Room Tip: No good rooms unless you like nisy pool or noisy road Book superior room because hate to think what...

We stayed at this hotel 1st till the 8th sep we arrived and checkin was quick and simple we found our room 404 fine, was happy with them room had a pool view not near them stage which was good, the hotel is clean and lots of things to do with kids, (we had two children aged 3 & 5) they loved the hotel, I would recommend the hotel kids club, the thomas cook one was always empty, wen we saw the girls who ran it they weren't over friendly and didnt talk tod the kids.the food was ok with a range of things, the outside snack bar didnt really do snacks or they did with extra charge, there is a run for sun beds the middle pool was mostly taken, but wen we went down we could always find some, the entertainment at night was very good, my children loved the parks and games room also the soft play room, the only down side would be on the last few night they put stag do party in the next room from us so at 3am-4am they would come back drunk and shout off the balcony also had a women at 4:30am banging one my door which woke my boys, I rang reception but nothing much was done also the last night there must of been about 40+ stag/hen/adult birthdays all out side with everyone singing, I was led to think this was a family hotel, its not quite clear that it is 2 secs from the strip of magaluf, however this wasnt a problem, the hills are a bit of a pain but nothing to bad, overall we had a fab holiday and my boys are hoping to go back next year, we booked through thomas cook which was the dearest way to book we got talking to a few other people and the stayed more nights and paid a lots less than we did, so for next year we will shop around

Very disappointed, reviews on here really led me up the garden path !!
1- no bottled water on all inclusive - absolute ridiculous.
2- For our family of four, we were given a small room 540 with four single beds crammed together, no room to swing a cat !
I explained my problem to reception and got charged €100 to upgrade to room 213 after 1 day - shocking !!
3- The a la carte resteraunt !!
Oh my god.....
We both asked for our steak to be well done....
When it was brought out it was spewing blood, still "mooooing"
We gave the waiter back out steak dishes explaining crystal clear what our definition of "well done" was, the same steak dishes were brought back out less than five minutes later still covered in blood. We lifted the kids and left !!
I approached the assistant manager and complained, he took my room number.
A short while later he provided what can only be described as a "lame" excuse !!
He said Spanish well done is completely different from the UL's well done !
Well if your from the UK and you like your steak "well done" prepare yourself for a bloodbath !!
The assistant manager tried to appease the situation by inviting the family back the following night,
Absolutely no chance !!
We ate out.
These are my three main gripes,
But as you can see, they are quite substantial complaints on my behalf.
Marina Torrenova - certainly not for us, would never consider returning

On arrival the check in was quick and very pleasant, staff directed us to rooms and told us to be quick then we could get something to eat in the restaurant. There is no free WIFI and cost something like 6 Euros per day. The rooms were small with large wardrobes for hanging spaces, but no drawers? There was a safe, but it was a small charge of around 16 Euros per week for the key. There was a small fridge but no tea/cofeee making facilities........unheard of for a 4* hotel I thought. Our room was exactly opposite the main road and facing yet another hotel so no privacy at all for you to have your curtains opened. We had ours closed for most of the time. The beds were hard and uncomfortsable, as were the pillows. We would have asked to be moved but were holidaying with other family members who had better pool room views! A nice balcony with table and chairs and small drying line but we had no sun at all, so all washing came back in as wet as it went out.
The restaurant was self service for food and drinks, lovely and clean with lots of choices, the food was very similar on most nights, but mainly hot and lots of it, so everyone could at least find something they liked. The main restaurant is also the snack area, so no poolside snacks available sadly, which was very disappointing for the children, who sometimes just want some chips or toasted sandwiches instead of bothering to go for a proper meal.
There are 3 swimming pools all on different levels. the main pool had a walk in flat part with a hand rail along the side, which was a brilliant idea for those not so good on their legs. The second pool was down several stairs and on another level, was mainly for children as it was roughly on an adult, knee high all over. The third pool was again down several stairs on another level again for children, and had a dragon, hippo and crocoddile slide and a large climbing frame type slide which held a large barrel at the very top and was being filled with water all the time, and when full tipped and emptied out all over the slides. All the pools were freezing cold, especiallly both the childrens areas, with the adult/family pool being only slightly warmer than the childrens pools. The children seemed to have endless fun on all these water toys, except my grandaughter slipped on the steps of one on them and ended up with stitches to her chin. water is being shot out through little holes at strategic places in these slides, which make it great fun, but also treacherous, so please be careful with little ones. There is only one set of outside toilets for all which is by the large pool bar, and only 2 of each, also the floor is wet and slippy, I saw many trip. There is only one pool bar, and as previously stated, the other pools are all on different levels, with both the childrens pool areas being furthest away from the toilets and bar area. There were slush puppies available for the children at all times, and lollies during the day. The bar staff were all brilliant, friendly, helpful and although often a queue, this was not a problem. There were plently of beds to be found, and people tended to move around a lot as the sun changed position all during the day and annoyingly once you had managed to find a couple of free beds and settled yourself down, it was not long before the sun moved around and you were in the shade! This was great for the childrens pools, but not so great for the adults sitting with them! The best pool was the toy pool right at the bottom, as this was a little sun trap area. The down side was that the sun beds there were older and therefore more worn and uncomfortable, and you had a long trek whenever you wanted a use the toilet or get a drink! There was also a large play area with slide and climbing frame for the children in this area also. We also discovered a ramp for easy access on the outside of the pools for buggies. Bad point is that the hotel does nothing about people that put their towels on a sunbed then seem to disappear for hours. We had read about this before we went, but thought that it might have changed, but sad to say it did not. This really lets the hotel down, as a simple remedy would be that if a towel was left unattended for more than 2 hours it would be removed, and the person would have to claim it back from reception. This selfish practice would then stop. Another hotel I stayed in used had the staff throw the towels in the pool if they were left on sunbeds for too long....it worked!
All the staff were really great, friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. Only down side was the entertainment. This was extremely poor, especially for the children. The entertainment consisted of a little bit of running about on and off the stage until the 2 staff members arrived, followed by a sort of disco with spanish songs that did not even start until 8.30pm when most of the little ones were already tired by then! There was a couple of shows for them, but one of these (a really good parrott show) didnt even start until 10.30 after the bingo! There is no doubt the entertainment crew worked hard to rehearse their shows, but they were very poor. There was no poolside entertainment during the day, no quizzes or fun around the pool, except for the daily dose of water polo. No one even tried to engage us or chat. The childrens club was all done inside......there was nothing done outside....no games or fun in the sunshine, which seemed a little odd. The children seemed to march around the pool at some stage during their 'club stay' shouting, but were then promptly marched straight back indoors again. Also in the evening certificates were given out, but these were only able to be won by children in the clubhouse....so no activities or games for others to join in, and lots of disappointed children as they wanted to know why they couldnt win a certificate!

The beach was not much distance to walk to, and going down a hill, so a little more tricky pushing a buggy on the way back! Also there is a small ramp onto the beautiful sandy beach, but then a very large drop/stair at the end where it was unfinished! Lots of shops and restaurants nearby to get food and drinks. Beach was beautiful golden sand and a lovely gentle walk into the clear sea for the children. There were pedaloes with small slides available for a small rental price I think 30 Euros for an hour?
We had a good time at this hotel, and I would recommend it for others but I would not go back unless certain changes were made.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view as others get no sun at all
