I am not one to usually take much notice of on-line reviews as I am always of the opinion that people mainly use them to complain and don't give out the positive message about places.
But oh how I wish I had believed trip advisor on this occasion. The TRH Torrenova is probably the noisiest place I have stayed in my entire life.
Although the noise was only a part of our trouble.
We arrived at the apartments at around 20.00hrs on a Sunday evening and after checking in were told which floor our apartment was on and that there was no lift, so we had to carry our luggage up two flights of stairs and then about 50m through the tiled corridors. On entering our apartment we immediately found that the key switch on the wall which controls all the lighting and air con was actually hanging out of it's mounting box and was at a height that my children could easily reach and possibly sustain injury. We advised reception immediately who had a maintenance man repair it the next afternoon!
We were luckily still in time for the restaurant and made our way down for our evening meal, which I would describe as adequate.
After our meal we decided to take a walk and find our bearings. We had read that there was a steep hill to get to the apartments, and so there was no real surprise when we walked back. If you are not a fit and active person beware! It is very steep, and to get to the beach, bars, restaurants and shops you will be walking it at least once a day.
On our return to the apartments we decided to turn in as it was getting on for 23.00hrs and we had been travelling since around 09.00hrs. The room was roasting hot due to the fact that the air con cannot be left on while you are out (this is controlled by the key switch, the key of which is welded to your room key, so you either switch off the air con, or leave your room unlocked!)
That aside we tried to get the kids settled and get some sleep. That is when the noise hit home. The Torrenova isn't actually in Palma Nova as stated, but as the name suggests is in Torrenova, which is equidistant from Palma Nova and Magaluf. The noise of passers by, street traffic, hotel guests stomping about and slamming doors etc was unbearable, and the swearing and shouting by very drunk club goers was such that we had to move the kids from the bedroom to the lounge beds. I think my wife and I actually got to sleep at around 05.30hrs to be awoken by the refuse disposal wagon at 07.30hrs (an everyday accurance at the Torrenova).
The noise was such that we decided to speak to the receptionist later that morning with a view to a room change, but were told that surprise, surprise we had the quietest room in the complex.
The following 11 nights were very much a mixture, some nights the noise died down around 02.00hrs and on others it was constant right through until 05.00hrs. All followed by the refuse disposal vehicles.
On the plus side, the TRH Torrenova is at least clean (towels changed every three days and bed linen after about a week) and the staff are pleasant. The food is edible although the menu could do with a change once in a while. The pool is kept well and there are enough sun beds etc to go around. The snacks/meals at the barside pool are good and the prices aren't too far off the prices in the local bars. There is some nightly entertainment, although I use the term very loosely.
All in all we enjoyed our holiday, but wouldn't return to the TRH Torrenova or the area just because of the noise issues. It is way too close to Magaluf if you are looking for a relaxing time.
So that's it, my first ever (and I hope last) rant on Trip Advisor.
