“A great hotel ... but ?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Let me start by saying this is a good hotel, and a bonus because it is now an "adults only" hotel ....... BUT ... The hotel went through a refurbishment and a modernisation programme 2 years ago, and believe me, it is not better. In a lot of ways it is worse.
Gone is the commissionair on the door, gone is the champagne(cava) at breakfast, gone are the pristine table cloths on the dining tables(now plastic mats), gone is the free sunbed towels(now €1 a day to change), gone are the coffee pots and jugs of hot milk at breakfast, gone is the entertainment room and gone are the lovely comfortable sofa's in the reception area.
Yes, I know all these things have been replaced with "modern" furniture and the place is now slightly less "formal" and a bit minimalist, and for that it has gone down a bit.
But, like I said before, it is still a very good hotel, and the location is fabulous. The staff are also very good too, and the manager is ALWAYS on hand to assist in any way he can.
I suppose it just goes to show how spoilt we used to be before the "modern" changes were made.
We paid €200 each for 6 nights half board, and it was a real bargain. One thing I did like about the refurbishment was the beds - They were huge and really comfy.
Would I return again - DEFINITELY, but with a heavy heart at the "modern" changes.

Room Tip: Go to Son Pardo trotting track in Palma. It's a great day out.

Dear Chowdray,
Thank you very much to share your opinion with us, as you told, we are upgrading all the areas at the hotel, and the “modern” furniture give to the hotel a new face to go into the 21st century. You will agree with us that there was already time to do “something” with the old furniture. Nevertheless, we have kept the relaxing atmosphere, and we would like that you enjoy future stays as much as the past stays.

We stayed at this hotel for a week, returning April 23. The hotel is in a super position on the beach front with level easy walking in each direction and lots of pleasant bars and restaurants in the area. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable though some are still in need of refurbishment. Our room was on the street side. Its balcony was in sunshine each afternoon and was not particularly noisy at night - though this might change later in the season! Food was excellent with plenty of choice in a dining room with a lovely sea view - the sunrise on our morning departure was amazing. Service here and in the bar area was efficient and friendly even though the hotel was quite busy. Staff worked hard to make our stay enjoyable.
The bus connection to Palma was fairly regular except around midday but could be VERY crowded and cost 3.05 euros for a single journey. It is, however, well worth the effort! There are cheap car hire places nearby if you wish to go further - Port d'Andratz, Port de Soller and Alcudia are all highly recommended.
Overall this was an early break that we really enjoyed and it was excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side have sun all afternoon

I am writing this review sat by the bar, after a gorgeous day sunbathing. This is my second stay at the Cala Blanca. Both times have been girls weekend away, to relax, enjoy some peace and quiet, sink some cocktails and enjoy the sunshine.

The hotel being adults only is perfect for those wishing to escape for a few days or for a longer holiday. Obviously attracting a differnt clientele, is quiet and not rowdy at all.

The attentiveness and friendliness of the staff is 2nd to none and has made our holiday.

Cala is their latest recruit who will be organising daily activities - such a lovely lady and we wish her well in her new role. It is a great idea to have daytime activities, just a shame it hasn't started yet for us to benefit from. But I am assured it will involved fitness for you fitness fanatics out there.

The evening entertainment was generally some live music, bands, pianist, singers etc. and of a high standard.

All of the waiters are very friendly and helpful, especially Diego who makes a mean Piña colada!

They are currently in the process if renovating the hotel, the reception and dining area have been completed, the rooms are going to be done this winter. But still the rooms are clean and spacious.

The food is plentiful and Delish, even has gluton free options, plenty of fruit and veg pasta carved meat, differnt paella every night . Half board is definately a must, great value for money.

I love it here, it has everything you require, on the beach, swimming pools, bars restaurant, shops close by (spars, clothes, souvenirs, restaurants etc)

You will not be disappointed with this hotel, ticks all my boxes!

Stayed here half board for 4 nights in April 2013. Location good pretty much in centre of palma nova. Shops bars etc all on your doorstep. We had a room facing the front street which was good as you got the sun on balcony till last thing. When we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a sea view. Thought 46 euro per night was quite expensive for that, considering you lost the sun quite early on the sea side of hotel. Room was big compared to your typical Spanish hotel. Room cleaned every day and clean towels. Food was good. Good choice of different meats and fish at dinner. Plenty salad and pasta. Pancakes cooked by chef with your choice of fillings. 2 beers in restaurant was 4.80 thought that was ok price. Breakfast good too. Cereals and continental or a fry up plenty of choice. Nice outdoor seating for breakfast was good. Didn't go into outdoor pool as it was to cold. Indoor pool was good though. Quite hot inside pool area though. Due to sun. It was my partners birthday too. Nice surprise when we got back to hotel to find they had put a bottle of cava and fruit in room for her. Been to palma nova bout five times now but first time we had stayed here. Would recommend and when we go back will stay here again.

Stayed with my wife for 6 days in April 13. Comfortable adults only hotel right on the beach with lovely views of Palma Bay from the pool terrace and main public rooms. Lots of flat walking in either direction. Hotel has capacity for around 200 but there were only 60 sunbeds available when I was there, although there are lots of chairs and tables available around the terrace. Nearby beach sunbed and palapa rental expensive if you were doing it everyday. Mixture of English, Danish and Swedish guests with Golf and Cycling groups. Breakfast was excellent and could be eaten on the terrace where the views and sun can be enjoyed. Board basis options are B&B or Half Board (Breakfast and Dinner) with lunch optional for 12E. The main Restaurant is noisey due to echo but there is a covered extension outside which is a more pleasant alternative area to be seated. Never noticed anyone taking lunch, probably because there are lots of very good value alternatives nearby. Maria's, on the road junction to the right out of hotel was particularly good value. Sunny venue to watch the world go by with 2 friendly hostesses. Mixed tapas were great as was beer at 2 chilled pints for 2.25E! We had a lovely top floor sea view room which I would reccommend but everyone I spoke to with an inland view (street other hotels nearby hills) was happy with it.If you are looking for a pleasant, friendly, well run, quiet hotel in a safe attractive area, which also has the advantage of being only a short stroll to the Magaluf strip, this is the place for you.
Finally if you want to get out and about Taxis are reasonable and well regulated. A really nice quick trip is to the Marina at Portals, 7E transports you to millionaire playground with craft rivalling Puerto Banus on the mainland.

On arriving at the Hotel we were met by the very cheerfull and helpfull Reception staff who made us feel very 'at home'.
This Hotel, which we first visited 40 years ago, has been recently updated and is Adults Only.
Unfortunately our balcony furniture, aka a table and 2 odd chairs, would have been more at home in a skip!! Most balcony's had modern furniture, guess it's luck of the draw.
We also found that on most mornings at breakfast we had to ask for food to be restocked, even bread and beans. Maybe we expected too much, but we didn't think this was really 4* service.
We are vey regular visiters to Palma Nove and in our opinion there is a better 4* Hotel at the other end of this street that we will return to for our next visit

Dear Ken S,

Thank you for your re-visit and for share your opinion with us. We are glad to inform you that the furniture of the balcony has been replaced this weekend for a new one, now all the rooms have already new furniture on the balcony.
Regarding your comments about the replacement of the food at the breakfast time, maybe, at some moments at the breakfast buffet are really busy, and believe me that our kitchen staff works hardly to replace the wide variety of the buffet; we are very sorry if at any time you have had to wait a pair of minutes to see the food replaced.

On arrival on a late Monday evening we where greeted off the coach by a really nice member of staff who immediately took our cases. Check in went very smoothly, we where asked if we wanted to pay more for an upgrade to a sea view, we declined and how pleased we did. Street rooms get the sun all afternoon and it's so nice just relaxing on the balcony. Balcony was quite a nice size with nice chairs. Food average for a 3/4 star hotel personally I would have said a 3 star rating not a four star. Entertainment every night but we visited other hotels in the area for more varied entertainment. Indoor pool needs some T.L.C. TEA AND COFFEE facilities please. Overall the hotel was nice and clean, staff very nice and helpful, would I stay here again, at a push I might but may look at other hotels first. Always a bonus of course is it is an adults only hotel which was great.

Room Tip: Afternoon sun, take a street view, also take an electric kettle.

Dear Tarafudge,

Thank you very much for your comments about our services. We are surprised to read about your “low star rating” for the dining room, as we have a huge wide of variety trying to satisfy the different nationalities that are visiting us; Nevertheless, we take as a constructive criticism and a way to improve services.
