“Good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

We booked this hotel, as I had noticed it and looked round it during my last trip to Can Pastilla. Close to the beach , with a nice pool area. On arrival we were informed we were not staying there and that we were being moved to the sister hotel the Marbel. Despite us protesting and it being after midnight, eventually we followed the receptionist up a side street to the Marbel, about 100 metres away. I asked if we could move the following day and was told we will see, come to reception in the morning. So it being late we went in the Marbel, which is a small hotel and showed to our rooms. They were small but adequate, and newly refurbished, with new beds and bathrooms. We all slept like logs, the room wss quitet, and the beds the most comfy i have ever slept in! The next morning we had breakfast at the Marbel, which was not up to much then had a ride up to the top floor roof pool , which was empty and very nice. We decided to spend the morning by the pool, and during this time made the decision to stay at the Marbel, we had slept well, the pool area waslovely and our rooms were quiet. We had been told the night before we could eat at the calma, which we decided to try for evening meal. On returning to the Calma that night, we had a good look around. Yes there were a lot of French in the hotel, but other nationalities too. It was much bigger than the Marbel, nice pool area, clean etc. Food in the restaurant was very good, always something to eat, and very nice staff who despite previous reviews were attentive and smiling. The entertainment was all in french , we did notice that, but we went out every evening so it wasn't a problem. It seems the hotels are sister hotels, the Calma seems to reserved for guests who book all inclusive, the Marbel for other guests, but you don't know this when booking. My advice if you are moved to the Marbel is to stay there and enjoy the quiet rooms and nice pool area (which we had to ourselves all week), but eat at the Calma. We really enjoyed it and would stay in either hotel in the future. A nice Brit bar is the Rat Pack bar, opposite hotel El Cid along the beach. We were made very welcome with hosts Debbie and Steve.

Good clean hotel, but if you want everybody to speak English and expect the typical English breakfast go some where else as this hotel seems to cater mostly for French tourists. Reception spoke English and the rooms were cleaned every day, what more do you need?

First night we got there at 1 am so there was a note on the door to go to the sister hotel down the road called the marble! Was not impressed with the room as it was tiny, just enough room to walk around the bed. The bathroom floor was not cleaned and the towels had been used! My guess was that some one had used the room before flying home. Next day we got moved in to the Calma hotel that we booked only because I asked for new towels, turned out that we were just in that room for the night as we got to the hotel later then expected. Much happier in our room at the Calma, big and clean. Can not fault them for standard of cleaning and fresh towels everyday! We were half board and we put up with the breakfast but only had tea once, that was enough! Not a lot of choice, cold and catered mainly to French and German guests; all drinks with the evening meal you have to pay for, we was not even offered a glass of water with our food! Indoor heated pool was cold and so was the jacuzzi which was a huge disappointed as only booked this hotel for the jacuzzi! The gym which was another reason for the booking of this hotel was basically a dungeon with 3 ancient looking machines! Great location, lovely maids and reception staff. Would not stay at the Calma again but would go back to area. You really do get what you pay for, last time we book on the cheap!

Visited Calma end of Sep early Oct for 8 nights. Spent first night in the other hotel. Not a problem, quite nice but a bit soulless. Back to Calma next day. As others have said mainly French guests, food mainly caters for them and Spanish. Plenty of choice at mealtimes. Room cleaned every day. Staff pleasant even to us Brits! By the way if you say Bonjour and Bonsoir everyone is very friendly! The staff can speak English even the FRAM reps! Had a pleasant stay, stop moaning! Nothing wrong with this hotel

Have just returned from a 5 day stay at Hotel Calma - just so glad it was no longer! Hotel was clean but not sparkling. Having said that we did get clean towels every day and our room was cleaned daily.

Food choice was great if you like pork, rabbit (mostly bones), veal and some sort of fish - same choice every night and cold, never hot. Salad consisted of lettuce and tomatoes with sometimes grated carrot and raw cabbage oh, and olives and pickled onions. Massive choice of bread - french sticks white or granary and pre-sliced white bread! No toaster until our last day. Breakfast best meal of the day.

Bar drinks were served in plastic beakers at all times of day to all inclusive guests. Non all-inclusive guests were served in glass glasses.

Entertainment - such as it was - was in French only!

Staff although never rude were never showingly very happy - rarely had a smile or a "good morning" from anyone except from one of the barstaff who was always very helpful and who spoke some English.

On the positive side, the beach was only a stone's throw away which was cleaned overnight as was the resort itself.

The majority of guests were either French or German with a very small percentage of British and for this reason think it would be better allocated to that market only and not to the British as it seemed that French and German were the only languages staff could speak.

Would I go back - no way.

Stayed in this hotel for the second time for 10 days. We were told it was fully booked (although I had booked early July) Had to pull my baggage to Marbel and have use of Calma. This I found most inconvenient as its easy to forget something and you have to go back repeated times to a hotel you didn't book. We had paid a good price for the all inclusive in Calma but its the English speakers that will be transferred to the sister hotel. They seem to take all bookings and then transfer the surplus. After a lot of argument we got to return to Calma for the last week of our holiday. No apology from the hotel for any inconvenience. I definitely will not use this hotel again - you don't expect to be annoyed by staff you are spending your holiday with.

Nice clean rooms, cleaned everyday with fresh towels, close to beach, plenty of choice for food. Not many sunbeds however this did not cause any problems in getting one, pool area was clean and tidy.

Close walk to the pubs, restuarents and shops.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view as this is the best view
