“Marina's USP = kid-free haven”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Visited this hotel for afew days as a couple due to it being school holidays & didn't want to deal with other peoples kids as our was on holiday with grandparents. Good decision as the hotel is very relaxing due to this point and I found it to be its main selling point and without this would just be another average hotel. The room, 5th floor seaview was nice, clean and made up daily. The food, something for everyone, found breakfast to be nice, plenty of choice but evening were very limited and repetative, ok for afew days. Bar area very nice and drinks not too expensive. The hotel also provides live entertainment which we found to be very safe and suitable for its relaxed atmosphere. The pool area is very nice but as it was a busy time sunbeds seem to be reserved early, so no lay-in! The flight path isn't noticable after awhile but kept my husbands business mind ticking by counting them!! All the staff were both friendly & helpful. All in all it was an enjoyable short break but if your going to stay any longer be prepared to get out & about.

Room Tip: high pool/sea view room

I and two friends (late 20s/early 30s) had a fantastic week at Marina Luz Hotel after a last minute booking via Travel Republic. Highlights included the staff, who were very friendly (on two occasions we were given a free fruit platter after lunch) and the breakfast buffet, which had the biggest and most varied food choices I've seen (fresh bread, muffins, ham and cheeses, full english, eggs, fruit; look out for pancakes on special days only!).

The hotel is 5 minutes from the airport - great for a quick transfer (we were ripped off by taxi drivers at €14 each way; would recommend getting the bus). As other reviews say you can hear planes flying overhead, which I got used to after a while, and worth it overall for the location/place. It is nestled in a quiet part of Can Pastilla steps away from the sea, with a view of the luxurious Purobar (go in for a classy drink) and just around the corner from restaurants, bars and the beach (5-10 mins walk).

Lunch was good with fresh salads and sandwiches, etc. We had a breakfast-only deal so can't comment on the dinner buffet. The sun loungers by the pool/jacuzzi get taken quite early (10ish), but there was always space on the top deck for sunbathing, and you get free towel tokens every day - a bonus. The beach is about 10 mins walk away which I think charged for sunloungers, so we were happy with our deck.

We went into Palma on the bus on one evening, which takes about 1/2 hour to the cathedral for €1.50 each way - definitely recommend, although the smell of the horse-and-carts outside the cathedral was overwhelming :( We missed our stop on the way back - I was looking out for the road name 'Cami de Can Pastilla', so we missed our stop ('Hotel Linda')! We ended up at S'Arenal miles away, but luckily the bus driver let us back on to go back up the strip. On our long route back we got to see the sights of the busy partying part of the area, and were very glad to be in our quiet location (those kind of partying days are over!!).

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the 'adults only' hotel, although there was one incidence of a too-intimate public display of affection from a couple in the pool/jacuzzi (thankfully a one-off; the lifeguard was keeping a close eye on them!). There was musical entertainment most evenings but we missed most of it. The three of us shared a Junior Suite which was a good size; air con, good shower, two balconies(!), TV (which we didn't turn on once) and cleaned well every day. We were granted the use of a shower room via reception on our last day as our flight was later in the evening - very helpful. We played a game of pool in the reception area with a club sandwich before heading to the airport - nice and relaxing.

The negatives were only minor: I had a wheeled-in single bed which wasn't as comfy as the huge double bed in the room; there were only two power points in the room/bathroom; it was a bit noisy in the mornings with other doors opening and closing (because of the non-carpeted floors, but it would be great to have quieter door-closing mechanisms!); you were charged extra for the use of a kettle and safe (I have stayed in places less nice than this with these provided for free); there was 1/2 hour drilling maintenance in the middle of the day once on the sunbathing deck (could they have done it later?) and the hairdryer was an annoying 'keep-your-finger-on-the-button' one. We arrived hungry but too late for food (11pm) and the only thing available for room service was a rather interesting cheese and ham sandwich; however we washed it down with a jug of sangria and laughed about it all holiday!

Overall, this was a good last-minute find. Yes, you can find cheaper places to stay in Spain, but in my opinion it was worth it to pay the extra for a bit of luxury, if you can afford it. I would wholeheartedly recommend this for young and old couples, single people and small groups of friends looking for a relaxing break, who want to spend a little extra on quality, staff friendliness and service.

Room Tip: We had room 308 which was a junior suite with a huge bed, two balconies with a view of the pool and...

Had a lovely short child free break so went for this adults only hotel. Loved the fact it was so close to the airport (<10 mins in taxi) and quite enjoyed the 'overhead traffic'. Stayed B&B in room 507 with lovely sea / pool view. Great spot for short walk to a great selection of restaurants for evening meals by the sea. Local cycle hire for 5 euro per day was great, there's a fabulous cycle path in front of hotel that takes you safely into Palma. Can't wait to go again ;-)

People complain about the views in their rooms. If you read the reviews it quite clearly says if you don't pay for a sea or pool view, you wont get a very good room. We paid the extra and boy it was worth it. The views were lovely, overlooking the sea. Rooms were just OK. Nothing special, but nonetheless ok.

The hotel is adult only, its was lovely and quiet, just what you want for a sneaky break away without the kids.

Because we had never been to the resort before, we chose teh half board option. To be honest, the meals were just OK. I wanted traditional spanish, there wasnt much of that, instead they had "themed nights" Itialian night, american night etc etc.... There are an array of restaurants about 10 minutes walk from the hotel around the seafront, I would go there.

There is a small "commercial resoirt" about 15 minutes away, not for me, a little bit tacky to be honest, however the closest cluster of restuarants around the seafront looked quite nice. I didnt spot any bars though, it seems to be orientated about restaurants,

In the evening the entertainment was as expected, average singers, nothing special, however, it wasnt overly bad.

I guess it depends what you want. We wanted a quiet break away, without the kids. If fulfilled our need. Quiet, exceptionally close to the airport, yes there was airport noise, it didnt really bother me.

You can walk into Palma, but it will take you AGES!!!

Not sure I could do more than a week though, unless I had a car.

In a nutshell, go B&B and go to the local restaurants. Make sure you apy the upgrade for a pool or seaview. Get to the pool before 10 if you want a sunlounger. Be prepared for airport noise.

Room Tip: Pay the supplement for a sea or pool view

the only positive thing to say is that the service staff is very friendly and helpful.

the hotel is super close to the airport - that means, you don't sleep from 6 a.m. on since every 2 or 3 minute there's a plane going directly over the hotel (see pictures). The planes go over the hotel so close, you nearly could see the pilot's face.

it was not well cleaned, the bed was horrible - usually I sleep very well, especially, when partying; I did not sleep a minute during my stay.

the view out of the window (see photo) basically says everything you need to know.

breakfast was ok, food in the hotel (I once had a Club Sandwich) as well.

never ever again.

Room Tip: another hotel!

Dear Guest

First of all, we would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review following your recent stay with us at the Hotel Marina Luz. All comments are reviewed by the Head Office of Marina Hotels, together with the Management of the Hotel Marina Luz.

Regarding your comments about experiencing noise during your stay due to the hotel being located near to the airport, it is true that the hotel is very close to some of the flight-paths. In fact, many of our returning guests are avid plane-spotters and they book our hotel and request high-floors, because this way they can see the planes clearly. The flight-paths cross over other areas in Cala Estancia too, so in our experience, the intensity of the noise depends on atmospheric conditions as well as each individual guest and the flight-path of that day.

Room changes depend on availability and according to occupancy of the hotel, and the Reception Team will always offer a room change to guests who experience problems due to aircraft noise.

We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the cleanliness of your room. Our Team take great pride in their work and the Housekeeper has been shown your ‘photographs and action will be taken regarding these. We would like to extend our apologies to you for having experienced problems with the cleanliness of the hotel.

Regarding the view from the rooms, we would like to clarify that this hotel has 8 different room types on sale (with different views or allocated in different parts of the hotel). Whilst we cannot check your booking from the details that you have given in your review, we would kindly ask for you to contact us directly so that we can check the room type that you booked and the room type that you were allocated.

We would like to thank you for your comments regarding the service of our team members, and we trust that despite your concerns regarding our hotel, that you enjoyed your stay in Mallorca.

Should you wish to contact us directly, you will find our contact details on our website.
