You won’t be disappointed in the Apolo!
Great Hotel, reasonable prices (particularly at the bar) friendly staff, plenty of lovely food at breakfast (semi seco bubbly at breakfast!) and dinner and clean facilities with lots of new furniture, fixtures and fittings. Plenty of new sun beds for all so no need to start getting involved in ‘towel reservations’.
We stayed at many Hotels in Can Pastilla and once favoured the Luz but the Apolo has become our favourite place to stay! When it was 3* the Apolo was very good, and having just spent a week here in Aug/Sept 2013 we were very pleased with the refurbished 4* hotel.
These might have been said before but here are a few tips...
Some people have said they did not like the open plan design but its fine in my opinion. Air Con was great and worked well. It works when the patio doors are closed and you leave your door entry card in the slot inside the room, the card also switches on the electric. However, you can leave ‘any’ credit card sized piece of card in that slot when you are not there and leave the air con etc on if you want. Nice beds, Super shower, Fridge, TV with lots of channels & Hairdryer. No kettle so take one if you want an early/late cuppa; the restaurant will give you cups/glasses for your stay. Great views from the balcony towards Palma. Six floors, the higher the better in my opinion.
TAKE THE BUS (TAXI's EXPENSIVE)
EMT cover the whole island, visit web site emppalma.es and click to read in English.
From the airport jump on the number 21 Bus (every 22mins) pay 3 Euros and get off at the first stop at Hotel Linda (it will say this on a screen in the bus). Walk down one of the many small roads towards the sea and you will find the Apolo. (5min walk).
When you are at the Apolo and want to take the bus anywhere come out of the main doors of the Apolo, turn left and walk to the end of the road to the t-junction. You will see the bus stop on the other side of the road. There are many buses, the 21 is 3 Euros and one stop to the airport departures (they start at 6.30am). The 15 is 1.50 Euros to Palma, this takes about 25mins max. The reason the shorter bus journey to the airport is more expensive is because it is popular and there can be lots of baggage.
If you have any Bus questions ask at Apolo reception or look in the two Information Folders in reception as they have full details in English in there.
Come out of the Apolo, turn right and left, walk to the shops (3mins) the first shop you see on the corner has the newspapers!
WATER, WINE & COLD DRINKS / BEER
As above but two shops from the newspaper shop you will find a shop called EVA for the cheapest water, beer and wine. E.g. 1tr of cold San Miguel that you can put in the fridge in your room is 1.80 Euros. 75cl Red Wine 2.20 Euros.
BEST ENGLISH BAR/FOOD
There are some great local restaurants serving authentic food from the region. But if its a quick bite of something you want then once you are at EVA’s (as above) look out to the sea and you will see a number of bars and restaurants on the right hand side. Go and say hello to Donna & Adrian who have run MELS BAR for years.
LIVE FOOTBALL ON TV
They have a big screen in the Apolo and TV’s at Mels Bar. But, for a great footy atmosphere go to THE MANCHESTER PUP down the side of KFC about 10min walk from Apolo... just ask. We enjoyed watching Liverpool beat Man U 1-0 there last week! Friendly and busy.
CHEAPEST SUN TAN LOTION
Tropical does it all and is a good quality. The cheapest place to buy this is the same place as the newspapers.
A must visit for the day. Take the bus from the bus stop indicated above and get off at Place d’Espanya which is one of the Plaza Squares. Or you can hire cycles and go straight there along the dedicated beach front route from Can Pastilla. If you did not pick up a ‘Palma city centre’ FREE street map when you arrived at the airport you can find one at the Information centre. Some lovely shops old/new great cafes and restaurants.... the cathedral, museums etc ...super place!
The higher the floor the better the view. Pay extra for the Sea View over towards Palma.
