“Fantastic Short Stay Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We stayed at the RIU Palace Bonanza on a short break (3 nights/4 days) booked through Travel Republic. We travelled to the RIU from Palma airport by taxi which is a cost of around 30 euros.
First impressions were that this is a well above average hotel, greeted with a lass of Champagne and nibbles while our room was prepared as we had arrived early.
The rooms are modern, contemporary and very clean. The views out to sea and the bay and coastline of Palma are gorgeous...a proper sea view.
We were booked only for B&B but the breakfast menu was vast and service and restaurant excellent, no waiting for coffee here.
The pool and sun bed area had plenty of choices for sun worshippers, with waiter services and a great little pool side restaurant for when the sun and heat gets too much, and it did..even in mid/late October. The animation team is not very big and the list of things they provide is limited but this has more to do with the type of holiday maker at this hotel which does not seem to consist of many children and caters for a more mature adult environment. This is not Magaluf.
The staff here are great and more than helpful and after my partner fell down some steps at a nearby shopping precinct (avoid the Pharmacy at the bottom of the hill from the hotel - , couldn't even advise nor help with a head wound, preferring to serve customers than lend advise/help when there was clearly a more serious issue) provided us with a free meal on our return from hospital, all with a smile.
All in all a fantastic hotel in a quiet part of Majorca, not much to do here but chill. If you want to mix in some nightlife, Palma is a 10-15 euro taxi ride away. Enjoy!

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Lovely welcome with champagne and nibbles. Smart clean room on the 6th floor with a great view. The sunrises have been dazzling matching the variety of food available for breakfast. Plenty of sun beds, towels and entertainment. The tv system even had BBC1, Channel 5 & a variety of other UK channels.

Just back from a 3 night stay.On advice from a friend requested and got a refurbished room on the 8th floor with outsanding views. A spotless hotel with obliging staff.Breakfast an excellent choice, evening meal a choice of being served at your table(limited menu) of the buffet.Plenty of choice and despite a negative review about overcooked meat you can request it freshly cooked to your liking.Swimming pool area excellent and always a free sun lounger although suspect height of summer a different story, particulary as a lot of German guests!. WIFI free, secure parking 7 euro a day (30 metres down the road. Bus stop to Palma outside hotel and only 3 euros return.
Regards the room I note the odd layout with sink in the bedroom but not an issue to us.Regarding cost we got room cheaper booking direct with hotel as opposed to booking.com etc.
Overall a very nice few days helped by fantastic weather to say was 6th October

Room Tip: Ask for 8th floor overlooking the awimming pool

This hotel has got a few bizarre reviews - but I put that down to the onesided nature of the guests rather than to the hotel itself. It's fine, not outstanding.

Hotel:
Large 9 floor hotel, nice pool with plenty of sunloungers,, excellent diving location (I can recommend even in early October - water temperature 23), large if simple (i.e. uninspiring) breakfast buffet, didn't try other meals. Rooms OK (good size bedroom, wardrobe, bathroom, balcony OK for 2 to sit on). Free sauna, turkish bath, small gym. Parking (7 euro/day in car park 50 metres away - surprisingly empty given hotel was almost full). Nice little touches like welcome drink on arrival, friendly staff, chocolates in room for arrival. Asked for late checkout but didn't get. A few jellyfish in the sea nearby - apparently they get brought in by storms once in a while, but don't let that put you off going into the water. Taxis right outside the hotel.

Illetes village:
Quiet (if you like 'exclusive') location 20 minutes drive from the airport, good cheap bus access to Palma (but nowhere else), small but good public beach, a handful of varied restaurants (e.g. really liked Es Parral [this gets consistent good reviews elsewhere on Tripadvisor], Chinese down the road a bit tasteless). A few little supermarkets and tourist shops. Some car hire companies but they seemed closed in October.

Guests:
In early October the mix seemed about 40% German, 30% British, rest French, Dutch, Russian, Italian, Spanish. Outside school holiday season so average age 60+. Many spent all day lying by the pool. Most don't seem to get worked up about how big their sea view is, unlike many reviewers.

Recommendation:
This is a great hotel to laze by the pool all week absorbing the sun if that's what you want. Feeding and watering all there. And cheap public bus into Palma. If you want to see more of the island hire a car at the airport - pretty inexpensive if you do this in advance. Though the queues at the car hire booths at 0900 arrival were impressive - 2 hours for Europcar, 1 hour for Record, the rest in between - so if there are two of you make sure one goes straight to the car hire booth [there are booths BEFORE customs/immigration] with passports and driving licences while the other waits for the baggage.

I can really recommend thi hotel Riu Bonanza Playa. We went there in September for a few days off in Illetas, Mallorca and really enjoyed. The director welcomes every new guests himself, very nice atmosphere though a bit old fashioned at first. But when we got to know the rooms who are beautifully redesigned, very modern, you fell this is the place to got. The view that we had was fantastic. What we did not try was the dinner as we always met friends outside. But the breakfast was good. The guests are a mix of Germans, English and Russian, but all in all very nice and can really recommend this.

We stayed at the Riu Bonanza Playa hotel during the first 2 weeks of September. This is one of our favourite hotels. It was our first time staying in this hotel and we defiantely plan to stay there again in the near future. We felt that the hotel gave 5 star service. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were very firendly and helpful in every area of the hotel. The managers were always on hand to help and make sure that everything was to our liking. The food was excellent and there was a wide choice avalable. The hotel was very clean. The pool area was great and there were always sunbeds available. Clean towels were provided daily to use by the pool. There were a lot of sporting activities to do in the day. The spa was really nice and was available to use at no extra cost. The views from hotel were great. Most of the rooms and the restaurant overlooked the sea. Illetas is a very peaceful and scenic spot. We really enjoyed our stay and felt we got value for money.

Just returned from 11 days at this hotel. We were in a refurbished room on the 6th floor and now understand the previous comments regarding no privacy whilst using washbasin and only a glass screen between the bedroom area, toilet and shower. We were told by the Management that the remainder of the hotel is to be refurbished in a similar manner over the winter period, with small amendments i.e. a glass screen between the bedroom area and the bathroom area. All staff were efficient and polite. The food was very varied and of a good quality both at breakfast and dinner. Easy access to Palma with a No. 3 bus running from outside the hotel at regular intervals at a cost of 1.50 euros each way. As the evening entertainment is still held outside, our room was overlooking the pool with a side sea view and we could hear the entertainment, but this always finished at 11 p.m. Illetas is a small pleasant upmarket area with a few bars. A short walk down the road there is a small sandy beach. Towels were put on sunbeds from 6.45 a.m. onwards but only by a minority of people, nevertheless, if you attempted to obtain a sunbed after 1pm there was always a problem, with towels on empty sunbeds!
