My husband, myself and my 15 year old son stayed at the Balmoral from 6th August for 10 nights. I had read the reviews about the hotel and once we had been allocated it I decided to keep an open mind and decide for myself. Clean room but very shabby could definitely do with a facelift. The towels were changed daily and the cleaning staff were very polite. The restaurant/canteen was ok and the food not too bad although my son didn't eat much and the staff were helpful and polite. The majority of the bar staff and reception were quite miserable and not very friendly. There was a fire in the last few days and my husband ended up banging on peoples doors to tell them not to run and not to use the lift as there were no staff around. Eventually the police turned up but no fire brigade and the fire alarms were still not reset when we left. Poor health and safety.
The entertainment was very good and the animation staff were lovely.
We were not sure about our transfer back to the airport as we had to contact them the day before departure so went into reception as there was a book with the list of pickups. Our name was not there at first and was told by the receptionist that we would have to contact the coach people ourselves and I thought they could have been more helpful as all they needed to do was send a fax.

We did have a lovely holiday but that was mainly because of the friends we made.

It may have been called the Balmoral but it certainly wasn't fit for a queen.

Would I return. I would return to Majorca but not to that hotel.

Recently returned for this hotel after a 4 day mini break 25th to 29th July

Arrived at reception at 1.00 am after a terrible transfer, landed at Palma at 9.20 pm
This is not the hotels fault, but be warned

Informed we had been allocated the Balmoral (we have stayed before at the Mastines Building which is OK)

Went over to the Balmoral but could not find room as the receptionist had made a mistake on the room card

Finally found allocated room on the ground floor Now 2.00am (still went out for drink)

Went back to reception and tried to exchange room (offered more money - but told the hotel was full)

Early morning on waking up open curtain to find people siting on lounges right outside our window (no privacy what so ever)

Room well cleaned every day with fresh towels daily

No complaints about the bathroom

Ceiling fan worked OK

Wardrobe falling apart

Food disapointing and monontanus & somtimes with long queues

Did not stay for the entertainment

Asked for coffee in the Balmoral bar and it was served in the same plastic cup they serve the cold drinks in - these are not made for hot drinks

The main bar in complex is in the Chihuahuas building - this is OK with nice friendly staff, somtimes the queue can get a bit long, but it moves down OK

Left to go into town at 10 -10.30 ish

Overall

The Balmoral building is old & tired and needs complete refurbishment

Try and stay in the Mastines buliding - great sea views

The small town centre is OK with some nice friendly bars - very cheap - but not very Spanish

We have stayed in this complex before at the Mastines bulding where the food was much better though that was 2 years ago

Go, have a good time, it is what it is - cheap & cheerful- we still enjoyed ourselves - though I would say it only deserves a 2 star rating at most

Return transfer almost as bad

Room Tip: Do not stay in the Balmoral - pay the extra for the sea view

I have just come back from a weeks stay at the Balmoral Hotel, We were told the transfer time was about an hour which turned into nearly two hours. On arrival our room was not ready and the staff on reception were very unhelpful in telling us when it would be ready, We were told to leave our luggage in an unsecure room until the room was ready and no apology was given, Once in the room we noticed that it was quite dated but at least it was clean. The whole feel of the hotel was it had seen better days and could do with a face lift! The ceiling fan was noisy but if you lay underneath it it kept you cool. The bar staff and cleaners were very pleasant and worked really hard. Towels were changed daily and beds made, There is however no reception service in the Balmoral, you have to treck down to one of the other hotels if you need anything which is rather annoying. The evening entertainment was very good but it is very hard to get a table and we had to listen to it rather than watch it. The pool area is very clean and tidy and there are plenty of sunbeds to be had although we did spend most of our time at one of the other pools in another hotel in the complex. The food was lovely and there was lots of choice. We were also at the hotel when a fire occurred in a room under ours and the first we knew about it was when black thick acrid smelling smoke came into our room through a vent in our bathroom. We looked in the corridor and a gentleman was trying to set off the fire alarms but none were working. We had to run down the corridor banging on doors and getting people out. Once outside we noticed that all the staff were already outside and none were in the hotel trying to get guests out. The fire alarm eventually went off some 15 minutes later. No-one seemed to know what was going on and no information was given by the manager or any staff, People were just wandering around not knowing really what to do. Once back in our room I had to open my patio and main door for at least two hours to get rid of the smoke. I tried to change rooms but were told that they were fully booked and what did I expect them to do. No help was given whatsoever and the reception staff were extremely rude. The smell continued in our room for the rest of our holiday. We were told that a guest had to ring for the emergency services even though one woman was lay on the floor. Apart from this we did have a good time but would not return as we do not feel that guest safety is important to this hotel, the fire alarms were still hanging off the walls when we left and if the fire had occurred in the middle of the night then there could have been fatalities.

Room Tip: Dont make any room requests as they do not listen whatsoever. No guest I spoke to got what they wan...

every bad review you read is true! i cannot stress enough, this hotel is the worst hotel ive ever stepped foot into in my life ,there isn't enough time in my day to type out a proper review so im just going get straight to the point a keep this as short as possible. me my partner and my 10yr old son stayed here due to cock up with are booking and was dumped here, literally!. we tried to check in to somewhere else but the other decent looking hotels were fully booked that week so we had to just make the most of a bad situation. here goes...... this hotel has no sole, as one person put it in a previous review its like something out of the cold war...... its dirty its run down theres 3 lifts and only 1 worked while we was there, we were on the 6th floor so we kept fit. the restaurant was depressing we had only 1 good meal there so we ate out most nights, the snack selection was a joke. if anybody can put there hand up and say they liked the food there then they have never eaten a good meal. the only + i can give it was are room aka the sauna 642 were kept clean, no air con except for some dodgy old fan with the cable hanging from the ceiling, 3 single beds with rizla thin mattresses and rock hard pillows and no TV. on are 3rd night some guy i swear tried to commit suicide as he fell from his balcony and was stretchered to hospital........as you would after a fall like that, i did see him move his arm so i dont think he died ( and im moaning about are break?!!!!!) we spent 1 hour on are first day around the pool aka cattle market ive never seen so many people crammed into such a small area. to get to the pool toilet you either have to swim or walk around the edge balancing so you don't fall in, im not exaggerating!. and to get a drink you have to take a ticket and wait in a mile long cue to get cheap booze served in plastic cups from some very unhappy looking bar staff which i can understand working there serving Britain's finest chavs on a daily basis must be tough. so from that moment on we decided to stay well clear of the hotel ( waste of all inclusive and money)
so, we spent are remaining days at the beach which was are saving grace. the 2 local beaches were very nice the larger one was a 10 min walk and was clean and crystal clear with fantastic large waves. the local town was dull it was full of the same shops selling the same items. there was 2 crazy golfs and a small fair for the kids but it was pretty basic just like the hotel it had no atmosphere it seemed so unhappy just like spains economy right now.
guys im sorry but i just can say anything nice about the hotel or the local area it was just horrible and ive kept this short as all the other reviews say it for me. please look somewhere else. good luck. the owners should be ashamed.

Room Tip: stay away please

This hotel is in a complex of 3 hotels - When we arrived we soon got a feeling that the Balmoral was for the poor relations compared to the other two. The room was basic but clean and the air fan served its purpose if you lay/stood right under it! Could not fault the maids who changed towels and tidied up the rooms every day. The food was excellent and as this was my first time All Inclusive I was not disappointed, Entertainment excellent although have to agree with others unless you get down by 7pm you have no chance of a seat and the adult entertainment does not start until 10 pm.

HOWEVER...... on Wednesday 14th August at around 8.40 am there was a fire in one of the bedrooms on the second floor. The Hotel procedures for evacuating the building were none existent it was basically every man for himself. I witnessed a gentleman trying to trigger two fire alarms, neither of which worked and a fire extinguisger was also triied by another guest again this did not work. Fire doors did not open and guests were banging on other bedroom doors shouting for people to get out. Not one single member of staff was on hand to tell people what to do, where to go etc. When we got outside thre were still people on balconies completley unaware and we were having to shout up to them to get out. Two ladies had collapsed but no sign of emergency services or Management. The fire alarm did eventually sound at least 12 mins after we were out nd it was left to one of the guests to called the emergency services asking for fire and ambulance. It was chaos nobody was giving any direction and staff were allowing guest to walk back into the Hotel before fire crews had arrived. The emergency services contacted the Hotel who told them it was under control and they werent needed (it has since emerged in Spain they have to pay £500 if the emergency services are called). When Management finally bothered to show up they were totally uninterested. I asked the Manager why the fire alarms did not work and he said they did and the guests had not tried to set them off he then told me had was busy and had other more impotant things to be doing - clearly more important than the safety of hotel guests. AT no stage we were given the all clear that the building was safe by the Fire Officers. The whole experience has left me very angry and I can honestly say if the fire had happened during the night there would have been fatalities. I would never go back to the Hotel as I am very concerned with the safety aspect and the whole attitude of the Management and lack of procedures in the event of a serious incident. When I left on Monday 19th August the fire alarms on the third floor had still not been fixed and I asked twice what was happening but nobody seemed to be bothered and couldnt give me a straight answer. I just hope there isnt a next time with serious consequences.

Visited for 1 week 1-8 Aug. Temp was in the 30's and the room was very warm. The ceiling fan was adequate and we had it on for the whole week, day and night. As we were on the first floor it was secure enough to leave the balcony door open throughout our stay. Room safe is around 3-4 euros per day - peace of mind. We stayed half board and upgraded to inclusive drinks (soft drinks and local wines/lager and iced water) during the evening meal for 2.5 euros per meal each - bargain! We were offered an All Inclusive upgrade for 16 euros each per day but declined. 2x sangrias at the bar cost 3.5 euros (for both) and a beer and a brandy with coke was 5 euros. Very good/wide choice of food at both breakfast and dinner. No TV/fridge/hairdryer in the room and don't forget your continental plug adapter. Huge comfortable bed (king size) On the downside there were a couple of thefts whilst we were there. One included passports but the hotel security was stepped up and there was a police presence during our last couple of days. Towels were changed every day but the sheets were not changed at all during our stay (1 change half way thru would have been nice). Yes, the transfer can take over 2 hours, depending on how many resorts the bus has to drop off in and you have to be prepared to wait until 2pm before check in (our room was not ready until this time) but, all in all, it was a pleasant holiday resort.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view you need to be in the Chihuahuas or the Mastines hotel. The Balmoral either...
