“CALA GRAN CALA D'OR LATE APRIL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

I stayed a week A.I. at the Cala Gran from the 28/04/2012 and found the hotel to be a good 3 star hotel with an excellent location for the beach and resort centre. I had breakfast and lunch everyday and the food quality was very good but limited choices for lunch. The hotel complex consisted of 2 conjoined hotels each with it's own pool but only one had a pool bar.The one restaurant appeared to be on the small size for both buildings and had 2 sittings for the evening meal. As I was on the later sitting, I ate out every evening in the many good restaurants nearby. My room was clean and all the hotel staff very pleasant and helpful. Cala D'or itself is a small resort with a long but narrow beach, accessed directly from the hotel by a pedestrian underpass. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and resort but qualify that by saying I stayed out of season and I feell the hotel's dining and bar facilities will be stretched to cope in peak season as will the rather small beach.

Myself and a friend have just returned from a week All inclusive stay at the Cala gran! It is a great place for a cheap holiday with a great location and good facilities! From reading some reviews i do believe some people can be way TOO FUSSY and expect luxury everywhere they go. But for the price we paid we were both very happy!! :)

Accomodation - We stayed in apartment 74, which was 2 floors up, lovely and spacious. Equipped with a kitchenette, table + 4 chairs, 2 sofas, 2 comfortable single beds, hairdryer, lovely balcony with a view of 1 of the pools and air con ( which we cudnt of lived without with the heat we had!) The whole apartment was very clean, the only down side was a weird smell in the bathroom, so we left the window open all day and kept the door shut. It wasnt a major problem :)

Food - I really liked the food that was served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My friend is quite a fussy eater so she found it hard to find something everyday, and was basically living on bread rolls, so just bare that in mind if you dont enjoy a range of foods! Breakfast had a mix of sausages, eggs, bacon, beans, toast, croissants, jams + spreads, fruit juices and more. Lunch and dinner was always varied, would always be a meat dish, fish dish, some sort of pasta or rice, some sort of potato, salad, soup and more. Also a mix of cakes, jelly, ice cream, mouse etc for dessert.
A menu was available each day so you knew what was planned for lunch and dinner so you could at least plan to go out if you didnt like anything on the menu. Whenever lunch or dinner wasnt being served, there were snacks available by one of the bars. Things like chips, chicken nuggest, salad, meat, ice cream etc.

Drinks - There is a menu of all the drinks they have and any that are not included in "all inclusive" are marked with a red star, but u can have them for 50% off. The majority of the list had stars next to them unfortunately. Mainly just a couple local spirits, beer, sangria, fizzy drinks and juices that are all inclusive. The one thing you can count on is the fact that they are not stingey on the alcohol at all! I had a black russian cocktail which was about 3/4 vodka + coffee liquor and 1/4 pepsi!! :)

Facilities - There are 3 pools, we only used 2 of them but they were both lovely! never too busy, plenty of sun beds available and some parasoles if needed. Every night there was a kids disco, followed by some sort of entertainement e.g Singers, flamenco dancers, musicians etc. Myself and my friend went to a place called Tropical Gardens which is just around the corner and has live music every night too. Most of the tributes were not brilliant but was always a fun night and had free wifi. There is also a games room just off from the reception and a few computers available for using.

Location - BRILLIANT!! 30 second walk to the beach down from one of the pools. Gorgeous beach, quite small, more like a bay, but so beautiful. The sunbeds under the parasoles have no sign on them to state that you will get charged 20 euros for using. So had to move quickly before the man collecting money reached us as we had gone with about 5 euros between us!
Just up from the beach is a range of shops, supermarkets and restuarant/bars.
We booked transfers with our package holiday, which was good. Around 60-90 mins from airport to hotel, but lovely air conditioned coach.

All in all, we had a fantastic time here and would definately recommened to anyone for a cheap, relaxing sun holiday. Hope anyone who goes here has a great experience like us! :)

Food, awful. Room, disgusting. Service, woeful. Cleanliness, non existent. Pools, no sun shades, limited beds. Staff, poor attitude. Air con, just blows warm air around. Value for money?, absolutely not! You get what you pay for but this place is well below standard!
Only positive is the location to the beach & town!!! Don't be fooled by the hype from people saying how great this place is, it's not.
The whole complex needs bulldozing & starting again!

We stayed in a self catering apartment so cannot coment on the hotel. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed for a self catering holiday (inclding air con and a hairdrier). We were in appt 25 which was near the pool and had a balcony overlooking the garden. We were able to park our hire car in the road outside the hotel for no charge. I liked the fact that we were close to the beach (about 1 minute walk) and near lots of bars and restaurants.

We have just returned from an enjoyable Half board holiday at the Cala Gran. We arrived at 1.00am and I was relieved that some dinner was made available to us as I was starving! Our room was basic in terms of decor but the shower was powerful and the view of Cala gran beach was breathtakingly beautiful. We had not paid the extra for a sea view either! The hotel is part of a large group so you can take your pick of the pools available at each. My 3 year old son loved the pools , I'm just sorry he made do much noise for other guests. Food was fine and there was plenty to satisfy the appetite I worked up chasing after the monkey boy all day. The hotel is right in the resort center so you can easily walk to the other coves and the marina and get the train back so there's much to explore. Cala gran beach is on doorstep and is , like all the beaches , quite stunning. The sea is so clear and there are lots of fish.
Negatives would be that due to the location there is much traffic noise and the thin windows do little to keep it out. I also thought it a great shame that the entertainment lady tried so hard to entertain the little children who were guests while one particular barman clearly did not like children and even gestured as if to shoot my son and pushed his little hands off the bar as he waited for his drink. But I suppose there is always one eh? The restaurant is also not child friendly in terms of choice, cutlery and no plastic cups even if you ask. 3 yr olds and glass don't mix so I feel the hotel needs to decide if it really wants families with children to stay or not.
It was my first visit to Mallorca and I was impressed , I would certainly return . Hasta luego amigos, Mei.

First visit to this hotel. We was very happy with the hotel. On arrival we was offered a cot for our 1 year old which was delivered by a very helpful member of staff, which not only put it up made it nice and soft with extra blankets and pillows! The room was great, basic but clean. There was not any 'facilities' as mentioned by anouther review but this was made clear at the time of booking. When going all inclusive there is really no need for the kettle/ fridge ect. The staf really are good here, reception always there if you needed anything and free wake up calls. The entertainment is basic but there are plenty of other pubs/ resturants you can go to if you wanted to venture out. This was a very family/ older couple resort which is fantactic to find. The only thing I can fault is the food. We love our food but sadly like every all inclusive holiday we have been on the food could have be improved. However, for the extra you pay for the all inclusive its worth it even just for the drinks. They do provide you with the option to pay for drinks but its about £1.15 for a small plastic cup of cola. The only other thing to mention was the air conditioning, not really as stated. It just makes the room OK but still its better than being hot! Overall a great holiday, the beach is great and on the door step! Lots to do and will be going back next year!
