“Great location friendly staff AI ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011 via mobile

Me and my husband returned after a week here on 13 aug. Last min hol via hotels4u paid £800 for AI accommodation seemed reasonable for kids hols. Transfer took around 1hr. Arrived at 0500hrs no probs with check in. Had a studio which was on top floor, opened the main door to room and were met by another flight of stairs, not a problem for us but could be for someone with buggy or mobility problems. Room had everything you need for SC and air con worked fine 15 euro pw for deposit box and 6 euro deposit for tv remote.

Located 5-15 mins walk to various beaches cala gran the closest and then cala d or and cala esmeralda about 10-15 min walk. All bars restaurants clubs shops etc within a few mins walk karaoke bar across the road. There seems to be a law that does not allow outside entertainment after midnight so no noise was heard from here after this time.

AI - the restaurant was very small so usually there is 3 main dishes and then the usual sides chips salad etc. Breakfast - cereal fruit full English bread cheese meats juice. Lunch - usually 2 main dishes then burgers toasties etc. Dinner - I considered to be quite poor. Usually on an AI I tire of chicken everyday but this AI was pork especially spare ribs, eveyday was a pork dish which wasn't for me. The snack menU by the pool was great, it was the usual tasties burgers baguettes got and cold and pizza but it was always freshly made and the chef would even wrap then for you so we used to take lunch to the beach. As AI package you were also allowed anything off the main menu at a 50% discount which was great.

Coming during the kids hols at peak time I expected to be waiting ages for drinks - I don't think we ever waited longer than 30 SECONDS for a drink the staff were all friendly and helpful, drinks away from the pool were served in glasses pint pots If you wished. drinks by the pool were served in good sized paper cups.

There was nO entertainment And the kids club was extremely poor although we went alone as a couple we do have 3 kids all aged under 5 and they would not have been using the entertainment here but locally at other hotels and bars there seemed to be things going off for kids, obviously all at an extra cost.

Overall the apartments were fine for a 3 star rating and the AI package was only let down by the evening meal choices. I would recommend the appts but I personally would not return but this is only because I will not be returning to Spain again. It has become very expensive, the poor exchange rate not helping. All future hols will be enjoyed in Egypt or turkey as they seriously cater for kids and although we did not go on thus holiday with them it was a one off and is NEVER likely to happen again!!! Were ever your going don't forget to print your 2 for 1 drinks vouchers out for Manchester airport. Enjoy x

Just returned from a week here and really all of us loved it. Although a large complex it was amazingly quiet. We were a family of 6 being ages ranging from 7 yrs to 71 yrs and it suited all our needs. How people have grumbled about the food i don't know ......every day was clean and varied food enough variety for everyones taste. We were all inc and found the staff work very hard and always have a smile to greet you.We had 2 apartments ....ours was at the back and was lovely and quiet number 321 and the other overlooked the pool 411...towels were changed every 2 days and sheets once.....nice and white too....clean smelling pillows and we were all happy. In the dining room they did not use paper cloths but linen and the slightest stain was ripped off and changed.
ice cream was free al day which is good for children ...some all inc have an embargo on this.
Right the downside of this complex is the sunbeds....yes !!! people get up early ...place plastic chairs and towels alongside a parasol and book their place for the week or 2 then clear off when the lifeguard unlocks the beds at 9.30 am not using those places.
not the other nationalities only...main culprits the BRITS...they claimed their spot......disgusting.It made you feel that you wanted to rip them all off and bin them very frusrating.....some even did this at midnight when the complex was quiet.
Well een though we had this trouble it was a nice holiday ...right opposite the hollywood bar and very central but no noise....no lager louts no rough people around a true family resort and a very pretty area.....boat trips.....choo choo train around resort..... It was really hot so if you are all inc then you do not pay for the aircon and sunbeds sc then you pay 2 euros for beds dauly but don't know about air con.

I have to say we were very apprehensive about going all inclusive, having read some very poor reviews; all of which were unfounded. On first arriving late Friday evening the restaurant was about to close but the head waiter Roberto brought out a very nice plate of Paella, very impressed with service so far. The food was generally very good; the usual cooked option of bacon, sausages , eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, fruit juice, toast ..... also cereals yoghurts , no complaints at all. A good selection of snacks throughout the day. Always hot and cold food available for evening meals with a choice of meat, fish, poultry, pasta, and always salads and fresh bread, even waiter service for drinks on evenings which were served in GLASSES not plastic cups.
The room was very spacious 2 floors, with a balcony, and very clean, maid service 3 changes of bed linen and towels for 10 day stay.
The pool area was slightly small for size of pool; as the pool was a good size and very clean.
The location of the hotel was very central to all beaches and the centre of town was about 10 minutes walk away.
Louisa who run the kids club was fantastic with all the kids; doing several activities between 11am and 1pm, and then mini disco every evening at 8pm which all the kids loved. In fact all the staff were always very friendly and helpful.
We would definately go back again.
Also a closely guarded secret on the top floor a roof top garden with Jacuzzi !! Very nice.

Room Tip: we were upgraded to 1 bed appartment which was fantastic and very spacious.

The only downside to staying here was having to pay for a sunbed round the pool and then having to wait untill 10am before they were handed out. Overall very clean and friendly

I really do urge you to look around elsewhere before booking with this hotel.

2 weeks self catering.

Our first impression was a good one. from the outside it seemed clean and modern, but once inside we quickly discovered that the hotel was stuck in the 80's. The staff were quite rude and disinterested. Food was awful. In the room the aircon was that loud it was more comfortable turning it off and sleeping in the blistering heat.

Calador is beautiful though, been there 3 times, but this was the worst hotel i have stayed in. infact the worst hotel anywhere in the world.

The food is frozen and microwaved into steaming piles of slop.

Very noisey complex.

Dated decor.

No entertainment.

Rude staff.

I consider myself to be a reasonable chap and just want to warn people not to book here. It really is a crap hotel. 3 star my eye. However it was clean and the location wasn't bad. If you're not too fussy, haven't paid a great deal and go with a very laid back attitude i'm sure you'll still enjoy it here. weather is great, and the beaches are good too (although the more i go back the more they seem to be getting dirtier, what with fag nubs in the sand)

unless you get a super cheap deal i'd give this one a wide birth.

We stayed at the Sol Cala D'or with 36 of our family and friends (ages ranging from 3-79) for a week as we were getting married at the Yacht Club on the Marina ( Go there for lunch if you can its lovely and the food is amazing. )
We chose the Sol Cala D'or as it was a central location, had entertainment for the children and was great value for money.
I was very anxious after reading some of the more recent reviews as everyone had booked this hotel for our wedding and we wanted everyone to have a great time in a nice hotel.
I have to say I needn't have worried..the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful..the pool area was clean and more than enough sunbeds for everyone??..
The food in the restaurant was always warm and lots of choice..Breakfast consisted of fruit, cereals (not kelloggs but if you want British brands then I suggest bringing them with you as you are in Spain), pastries, hot breakfast, toast, juices, tea, coffee etc... Lunch - salad selection, meat option, pasta, Jacket Potatoes, soups,etc...Dinner example- Salad, potatoes, Lamb Chops, Meatballs, Mediterranean Mixed Vegetables, Chicken fillet etc.
The rooms were clean and spacious and the towels and bedding changed 3 times whilst we were there.
Overall the hotel was everything we needed for our stay and not one of our large party had any complaints about food, noise or rooms.
We had a great time in Cala D'or, there are so many nice restaurants and bars to explore so please dont let the negative reviews put you off staying at this hotel.

Do not take any notice of the bad reviews of the All Inclusive. There were 36 of us staying here for my daughters wedding at the Yacht Club on the Marina. The staff are lovely very friendly, can not do enough for you. The apartment was large and very clean. There was no noise from the bar across the road as all entertainment has to end at midnight. The pool area is lovely, no charge for sun beds if you are AI and the childrens entertainer is lovely, the kids loved her.
The hotel is right in the centre only 5 mins to the cala gran beach and the square with lovely restaurants if you are self catering.
The food is lovely, always lots of choice and nice and hot. Some of the reveiws said the food was bad.........you cant please some people!! Not one of our large party complained about it and we are all used to good hotels and good food. The dining room is never full as you can dine outside if you wish.
We would definately go back again.

Room Tip: we were in room 208 on the first floor overlooking the road outside, nice big balcony no problem sle...
