“great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2010

My husband and I stayed for the first time last Sept. Hotel was very clean and very friendly. There was alot of repeat guests who had been going there for years and were called the committee. Frank and Sylvia did alot for the entertainment and got everyone involved, we meet some lovely people and we are meeting them again next year. The food could have been a bit more variety but the staff in resturant were excellent. We ask for a high floor and got one, the only negotive was our balcony was coming away from the sides so it had not been checked they came up and put warning tape round it., but was not mended. Cannot wait to go back in September this year. Jane and John Harris

After reading some reviews, we were a little bit unsure about booking here, but with a 91% satisfaction rating, we decided to go for it! How glad we were because it was a lovely hotel and it exceeded our expectations. OK, many of the tables in the dining room were a bit close together (at least it encouraged you to talk to other guests!), but we sat towards the back of the restaurant where there was a bit more space, in fact there was a big area where the tables were not set, so it's a pity that this area was not utilised. The food was very good with plenty of choice. The staff in the hotel, particularly the restaurant and bar, aswell as the cleaners were very friendly. One young barman in particular, sorry I cannot remember his name, was very friendly and efficient. On arrival, we were a bit surprised that there was a charge of 11e a week to hire a kettle, maybe we had missed this point in the description of the facilities? However, the hotel bar supplied cups and long life milk on request, we just had to buy tea bags. The safety deposit box was charged at 2e per day and worked out at 9e dearer than a 4 star hotel we stayed in last year, but there you go it's a must and it was a large safe, not that we needed one that size! There was also a charge for the TV, but we weren't interested in this! We had a front sea view room on the 4th floor over looking the pool and promenade, worth paying the extra for if you can. The room was a little smaller than some we have stayed in, but not a problem for us, and the balcony was the full width of the room with plenty of space. The room was cleaned to a high standard, as was the hotel itself. Prices of drinks in the hotel bar compared very well to a number of bars elsewhere in Cala Bona and Cala Millor, some of whom were dearer (but not as much as an ordinary looking cafe/bar called Es Tantit in Porto Cristo, 7e for 2 small beers was over twice the price of most other places). Most guests at the time we stayed were in the 50+ age group, like us, with many at retirement age, but there were also a few younger couples. A number of guests we spoke to had stayed at the hotel before and one in particular was due back there again at the end of the season. There was entertainment nightly, although we did not watch any of the acts, as we prefered to stroll into either Cala Bona or Cala Millor in the evenings. Plenty of sunbeds, no need for the annoying up at the crack of dawn towel brigade to sneek out and mark their territory, only time we saw this happen was by an older couple on the last 2 days, shame on them!
So overall, a very nice hotel, good food and very clean, not too big either (probably a good feature), just as good as some 4 star hotels we have stayed in and would certainly stay there again.
To the Hotel management and staff, keep up the good work!

The bedrooms were tiny but very clean. I agree with comments about the dining- room. The tables were so close some larger guests had problems getting in and out. Choices ran out early and the " dinner menu" posted outside in the morning was a work of fiction. Buffet food sat around far,far too long ang got cold in huge trays.Breakfast tomato juice and a jug of milk were "off" on our last day, suggesting poor date-keeping. Dining staff constantly flapped tablecovers in our faces, busy setting up for next day but ignored guests trying to eat. Bar staff seemed poorly trained. We submitted a written (negative) customer survey to the hotel on the last day and the post box was absolutely full! Hope the management read some of them!

my husband myself and two good friends have just got back from spending 10 very
enjoyable days at the bonamar.I felt I had to respond to the negative reviews as we
couldnt fault the hotel in anyway.Yes the rooms are not the biggest ,but we have been in smaller and after all all you do is sleep there! We found the food excellent with a very good selection and not all pork as stated by some. The entertainment was as good as you get in most hotels and Rud Stewart on the last night was brilliant (watch him on you tube) Yes most guest are over 50 but that doesnt mean we are all old boring fuddy duddies most of us still have plenty life left in us and like a good time.We will certainly be returning next year. Can recommend yates fun pub just 100 yds away for a good night out and for cheap beer from9am to 7pm 1euro a pint

We visited early October, i.e. end of season, and had exceptionally warm weather which exposed the limitations of the Bonamar's aircon. As others have said, the rooms are pretty cramped - take your cat somewhere else if you want to swing it!
Staff were very helpful (as far as language limitations allowed), but slightly too few in number and hence usually a little stretched. Cleaning was very efficient, thorough and non-intrusive in all areas.
As with most of Cala Bona, there's a tendency to gear everything to the 'UK Comfortable Pensioner' market, exploited with customary aplomb by Thomsons, who charmed & smarmed the 'Zimmer Squad' into countless overpriced excursions.
Evening entertainment attained the legendary dire standard of the island and, for most guests, was probably outshone most nights by the obligatory bingo.
Food was adequate but bland and far from remarkable - we got the impression that menus are calculated not to frighten people with 'foreign food phobia' - and, of course, to be cheap to produce.
A visit to the Bonamar isn't likely to either disappoint or thrill you, but hey, a holiday's better than none, isn't it?

not the worst hotel we have stayed in,although the food was a little hit and miss, one evening we went to dinner @ 8.30 and two of the main dishes had ran out and were not replaced, dinner didn`t finish till 9pm. the hotel is situated in a good spot and has plenty of bars and restaraunts around it. must mention the spar shop 100yds down the road ran by eileen and pedro, cheap san miguel and filled baguettes make a nice lunchtime snack they will even pull the cork on the wine for you.
