“15 years holiday at hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2010

All the times we have stayed at the Bahia del Este we had nothing but praise for the staff and accomodation for the hotel. The staff are all very friendly and nice and greeted us each year like old friends.. Sadly last year we were told the hotel had been sold to the Germans so we will not be going to that hotel again but are still coming to Cala Millor but at a different hotel but hope to call and see all the friendly staff at the Bahia del Este again. It will seem strange not to stay at the holiday as we have meet a lot of friends both English and German at the hotel. There would not be any point in recommending this hotel as it seems it is going to be fully German quests and not English

We have been to this hotel for the past 12 years, sad I know. But up to this year it has been very good. The hotel it's self is very good but the food lets it down as do the new owners. It is now difficult to book and the food does not represent a four star hotel. If you pay a four star price you expect four star food which it was not. It is a great location and has good facilities so come you German new owners get your act together and provide the quality that is expected.

Just home from our first time at the Bahia del Este and we enjoyed our one week half board stay. Our second time at Cala Millor, a resort we love with such a beautiful beach and friendly Majorcans everywhere. Most locals speak English, German and Spanish very well so there's never any communication problems.

The room was a decent size and facilities were air con, fridge, TV and safe. Nice views from the balcony. Lovely comfortable bed - slept like a log everynight!

Very good shower in bath and also a bidet in bathroom.

4* hotel with good pool area including jacuzzi, aqua aerobic sessions, indoors the covered pool for off season, wellness massage centre, squash court, pool tables, games room, internet access, gymnasium, sauna, crazy golf, table tennis, quiet area to read and small library selection, tv lounge, coffee tables near bar and bar lounge which I might add is a smoking area.
The compere was a German chap called Harry. A very nice fellow but the entertainment he did was very limited however there were some daytime activities. When visiting acts came to the hotel the small stage on the upper sun deck was used instead of the main stage on the lower sun deck, this was unsatisfactory as not everyone could see the shows.

This is a predominently German resort and 80% of Bahia del este guests were German so things are obviously catered towards them more so. I don't really have a problem with that.

The food was nothing to write home about but there was big enough selection so we managed to enjoy the meals enough but it's obvious the All inclusive is hitting the hotels budget for food. Got to say that we enjoyed breakfast tiome the best, very good selections then. If you do fancy eating out then I strongly recommend Italian resteraunt Tomeu in the pedestrian precinct.

The chambermaid Tina, did a marvelllous job everyday and was a friendly lady.
Some resteraunt staff were quite friendly and others not so.
Reception staff did not seem too friendly only doing what it takes to do their job. In the leisure industry a smile goes a long way so cheer up at reception please!
Bar staff and waiters along with harry were the friendliest staff, always cracking jokes and interacting with guests.
The engineer was a friendly chap too as we required his services when the bidet broke and was leaking. The reception staff took 2 days to get my complaint registered which was a disgrace. I was going to complain about this to the Harriet, Thomas Cook rep but she didn't turn up for work that day and when she did she was late. As an orator she was very poor and did not inspire me whatsoever.

The hotel guests mainly comprised older generation and thus was not a hot spot of noise and loud music. Overall we really enjoyed this holiday, Cala Millor is a fanatastic resort. The hotel is in a fabulous location next to the beach and tourist information office, close to alot of shops and bars. Would I come back? Yes definetly.

Having stayed there many times before we thought we knew what to expect, however, the Hotel has now been sold to a German Company and the focus had changed accordingly.
On arrival we were told it is now an 'all inclusive' Hotel which we were offered at a cost of 10 euros a day. The staff were the same pleasant people however the food was far inferior to previous times, I do not expect to be offered Meat Loaf as the main course twice a week and undercooked chicken. The food was no longer labelled in English and the entertainment was in German, bit difficult to take part in quizes and bingo if you cannot understand what is said. The entertainments officer advised us that next year it would be 'Germans only' but we may be able to book over the Internet, this was refuted by our rep.

We and the other returning British guests were all disappointed in what we found this visit.

Very sad to see this happen to our favourite Hotel.

We have just returned from a weeks half-board holiday in Cala Millor, Majorca, and I would like to thank Thomas Cook's holidays for the spot on holiday we have just experienced.

The Hotel that we stayed at was the "Bahia Del Este" and make no mistake this is a 4* Hotel. The place was imaculate! The food was quality! Based on a Buffet system, after entering the dining room the choice of food was amazing and plentiful with excellent service. Our room was comfortable and imaculate, towels were change daily and there was no problems with bathroom or bedroom. We took advantage of the free Hotel organised Cycle ride that was excellent. We mixed with British & German guests and I must say we found the ambience of the Hotel second to none. Entertainment in the evening was good in the main Bar/lounge with a variety of live entertainment/music. The outdoor Pool was clean and inviting. Gym facilities were available as was Squash, Table tennis & Crazy Golf in the grounds. The beach was no more than a three minute walk across the promenade.
I've nothing to gain from this review but felt that as we were a little apprehensive before we chose this hotel and I would say some reviews can be a little offputting. Definitely a winner for us.

Location of the hotel is very good - fairly central in resort and a short walk to all that Cala Millor has to offer which is fairly limited but great for a basic holiday in the sun. If you like a nice airy modern hotel then avoid the Bahia Del Este as the décor is very dated with some fusty old furniture in the saloon/bar area. Rooms are exceptionally clean but again, very dated. Our shower was little more powerful than a dripping tap which was frustrating - we asked that it be looked at and were told this was as much pressure as was possible (hmmm!).

Pool area was again very dated with a number of the flag stones surrounding the pool having become loose and uneasy. Pool itself is a reasonable size with a spa area for adults at one end. However, much of the spa area no longer works - the lay-down jets no longer function, the stand up corner jets are out of order and only two of the four decaying Jacuzzi buttons worked - still, nice to relax in never the less.

Food was good and the restaurant never seemed too crowded - plenty of selection and probably the best feature of the hotel. Evening entertainment was amusing only because it was so poor that it put a smile on your face! The only exception being the Kenya Boys who performed some pretty crazy acrobatics. One act, Testa Rossa(sp) where so awful the place emptied within minutes.

The one major gripe I have with the Bahia Del Este is that the hotel management seem more than happy to allow non-residents access to the pool area which was frustrating during the busy weeks we stayed there. A good number of people frequenting the nearby President Apartments made the hotel their own which meant a limited number of sunbeds in the best locations. One group of young women staying at the President would regularly place 5 towels down on beds at 9:00am only to return after a full day on the beech. We often saw other people from the President in the hotel restaurant which is annoying since we had paid good money for the pleasure. These particular people were being aided by a number of hotel guests who were clearly regular visitors to the Bahia Del Este and friends of the non-guests. I complained to the hotel management but they showed absolutely no interest whatsoever so I confronted one of the non-residents in the restaurant and asked him what the view was like from his balcony across at the President Apartments - he went very red and rushed his food selection before returning to his table and polishing off his free meal in record time. Strangely, I never saw him or his family in the restaurant again but he was happily stretched out by the pool the following day.

The reception staff were OK - not overly friendly and welcoming and their English was limited but sufficient to get by. Upon check-in we handed in our passports electing to leave them safe with reception until the day before our return. When we finally requested them back on our penultimate day but we were given two passports belonging to other guests. There seemed to be a panic and severe confusion and the Manageress explained that the problem was cause because a member of staff was off ill (???). Three hours later our passports where found thankfully but it did make for a fairly uncomfortable time, worrying whether we would be able to travel.

To summarise, the Bahia Del Este is very outdated but very clean and well located within the resort. Personally I wouldn’t return as I think there are far better hotels to choose from especially for the money. I am sure the hotel was a good 4* in it’s day but I’ve stayed in better 3* hotels in Mallorca for much less money. If there was one word to describe the Bahia Del Este then it is ‘Average’ which is not what I want from my well deserved holidays.

I just returned from a 7 day stay in the Bahia Del Este and I throughly recommend it. The location was great!! The beach was just 2 minutes walk from the hotel; supermarket is just opposite (great for stocking up on drinks and snacks); the tourism office is next door (I recommend speaking to them if you plan on sightseeing the island, they speak perfect English and were extremely helpful); and the bars, restraunts and shops are also very close.

If you have young children, the Fantasy Park (with inflatables, rides, go karts, etc) is less than 5 minutes walk away, and the bicycle hire (up to 8-seater!) situated opposite the Fantasy park is a must!

Within the hotel, it has more than enough to keep you happy. The pool is of good size. Adults will love the huge outdoor jacuzzi, children will love the small paddling pool. There were plenty of sunloungers. I didn't experience any problems looking for them, even when the hotel was full - most hotel guests prefer to head for the nearby beach. The restraunt food is typical of a resort like this, plenty of choice and no queuing. They even make crepes and omeletes fresh for you - love it! During the day the hotel organise excursions (walking tours, market tours, etc). There is night time entertainment, which is a bit hit and miss depending on your taste. There is also a gym (very basic, 4 weight machines and 2 bikes) table tennis, 2 pool tables and 1 squash court (too strenuous!) for exercise fanatics.

The downside is that the receptionists are friendly but have limited English. Also, the hotel is more than 20 years old and looks a bit tired here and there - which is why I rated it 4-star instead of 5-star. Apart from that, I loved the Bahia Del Este. Its a great place for families and I will definately be back for future holidays in Majorca! Tom
