“An Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We stayed for three nights in the beautifull oasis!!
The hospitality, the service, the food, the view, the pool, the rooms it was al excellent.
Even though we are (6) women we could find the pearl easily by the direction we were send.
It where relaxing days in a beautifull surrounding.

We hope we'll can come back again!

Oh dear, what a disaster! We were so looking forward to staying at La Perla after reading the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor. We have done a lot of travelling and consider ourselves quite discerning when it comes to holiday accommodation.

We got lost following the driving directions we were sent by Andre & Remco as the turning off the main road is hidden. We phoned for further directions and asked if someone could meet us at the end of the road but Remco told us he was busy in the garden. We eventually found our way and were greeted by Remco who in an arrogant manner told us his written directions were perfect and we were the only people who'd ever had difficulty finding La Perla! Not a great welcome for two weary travellers. We were also greeted by Hugo their large over enthusiastic Weimaraner and although I like dogs I cant touch them as I'm allergic to them. I would have preferred not to have come into contact with him but Remco didn't give me the choice.

The room we were given was small with dual aspect windows and view of the car parking area (hardly the view we hoped for and had asked about in our booking but had never received a reply). There was a Nesresso machine with ONE coffee capsule and a used capsule in the machine. There was also a kettle with two Earl Grey tea bags and one Roibos - not exactly a good selection or generous supply. The room safe was the smallest I've ever seen and was certainly too small for an iPad. We had booked a room with a king sized bed via Booking.com 2 weeks beforehand. However our room had twin beds (made up as two singles) pushed together. We also found our bathroom was not en suite as we had been lead to believe online. Our 'private' bathroom was next door to our bedroom but was at one end of a communal living area, which meant being watched by guests as we went back and forth in the bathrobes provided. This set up made us feel very uncomfortable and was unacceptable. If we were staying in a hostal and paying half the price we might have expected this kind of arrangement but not in a luxury B&B.

I decided to speak to Remco about our accommodation and his welcome and explained that it wasn't what we were expecting. I was again taken aback by his manner which was defensive and unsympathetic. He refused to accept that we had been mis-sold. I asked if we were to only stay for one night would they refund us for the second night to which he replied "absolutely not". It was only when I mentioned my allergy to dogs (or was it when I mentioned Trip Advisor?) that he said "I think you'd better go" and he agreed to give a refund for the second night. Andre came to see us later in our room and offered to find us somewhere else to stay in Frigiliana which had an en suite and a king sized bed but said it would be difficult because ALL king sized beds in Spain are 2 single beds pushed together. Strange then that we had just spent two nights in Granada in a wonderfully large bed! His refusal to accept that the twin beds in our room did not constitute a king size bed made us realise we were dealing with 2 unreasonable people so we decided we'd find our own alternative accommodation. We didn't stay for breakfast the following morning as it would have been too uncomfortable for everyone if there was an atmosphere so we are unable to pass comment on that aspect of the accommodation.

We didn't hear from Remco & Andre regarding the refund for the second night. So I emailed them ..... 5 times with no response. I then telephoned and spoke to Remco who denied having received any of my emails. He said they had changed their minds and were not going to give us a refund as promised. We told Remco to "watch this space". The next day he emailed (from the same address I'd been writing to) to say they had changed their minds again and would make a refund for one night minus the 15% they had paid to Booking.com and we have now received this.

In our opinion Remco should not be in the hospitality industry with the kind of attitude he displayed towards us.

La Perla is in a beautiful setting, the house and grounds are lovely but customer service is certainly not a priority here.

Room Tip: Don't take the room off the communal area downstairs with bathroom next door. Other rooms have...

The hosts of La Perla de Frigiliana have created a beautifull pearl in Andalusia. We were very impressed when we drove on the lawn to the house. There is a real beautifull Andalusian house with green gardens en big swimming pool. The room is spacious, clean and complete, the great beds are a big plus. You can relax at the swimmingpool and from the terrace you can see the sea downhill. If the weather is a little less there is a big livingroom where you can relax, eat and drink. Three times a week Remco & André will cook a meal which is really worth trying. You can tell André & Remco like to run the B&B because you can feel it in the great atmosphere! The location is perfect for a day at the beach or fors ome of the highlights you can find in Andalucia. If you are lookng for luxury, great hospitality, good food & drinks, choose for La Perla de Frigiliana!

The B & B has wonderful views down the valley with the sea in the far distance. It is in a beautiful spot beside a riding school which is very quiet and not very busy so doesn't disturb one at all, just adds to the ambience.

It is one of a group of two villas. Andre and Remco, who run it, live in the other one.

It is a 10 minute 3 km drive off the main road leading up to Frigilliana from Nerja. The left turn off the main road is down the hill after a bend by the big refuse bins - a good landmark if there isn't a sign there. The single width lane/track isn't in the sat nav.

The villa has 3 bedrooms in total, with the other two downstairs at the back by the car park. I had a look in them and was glad we'd booked the upstairs room - lighter and bigger. I'm not sure that they'd get any sun.

Our room had twin beds pushed together, heaps of wardrobe space (although no drawers), a large shower ensuite area, gowns, coffee machine, small terrace with table and two chairs with view of pool and valley in distance.

There is an honesty bar in the fridge and we were able to store a few bits in it as well.

We particularly liked the fact that they cook a couple of evenings a week. We stayed 4 nights and had meals Friday and Monday which was perfect.

We stayed in early March which was a bit cold. Make sure you ask for a heater.

We didn't swim as the pool isn't heated (I think I'm right in this that it isn't) - but they're thinking of getting it heated.
Its a lovely spot and we had some great chats and laughs with Andre and Remco. And there's Frigilliana and Nerja to visit too. A good place to explore from. We also went to Granada from there.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: LIke I say, choose the upstairs room if you can spend the extra £.

Just a little paradise in Andalusia. We enjoyed our stay so much, we didn't want to go home again. The perfect place to relax in the very nice quiet garden. To sleep in the lovely rooms with very good beds. The service from the owners is great and Hugo the dog makes everything complete. Thanks! Alfred and Karien

End of April we (3 friends) spend 5 days in this wonderful B&B deluxe. The owners are so lovely and make you feel at home. Soon after our arrival we were re-named as "the girls". Our rooms were opposite to each other, which was ideal. The rooms are great. Spacious, super comfortable beds and a great shower. The communal area is luxurious and comfortable. We spend a rainy day inside but didn't even mind that too much. We could read, watch TV, play games, chat and enjoy the lovely lunch made by André. The kitchen provides several soft drinks, good wines and a wonderful coffee machine. One night we enjoyed the dinner (bbq) made by André and Remco, which was really generous and all prices are very reasonable. The outside area is lovely as well, great pool and sun beds. But the best was probably the atmosphere created by Remco and André. We could have stayed there for weeks and were sad to leave after such a short stay. But fortunately we can come back!
