“Excellent choice for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The idea of going to a cafetaria in a large department store is not perhaps one's first choice. It smacks of a quick lunch while doing the shopping. Well it was not like that at all!

We were staying at the Clip Hotel in Porto and one of their tourist brochures advertised a discounted meal at this restaurant and as we wanted a quick snack for lunch we thought it might be interesting and was an opportunity to visit the store at the same time. The store is huge and is similar to the types of stores in the UK where different retailers rent space for their particular products. Anyway we passed all these by and climbed to the sixth floor. To find this restaurant you have to be careful not to mix it up with other restaurants in the same building, not least another much more expensive one on the sixth floor.

When we arrived we realised it was the "cafe" but it looked vibrant and, more to the point, full so we decided to give it a chance. We sat at the bar where we got good service from a waitress who spoke excellent English and helped us through.

We chose a selection of dishes to share for lunch and really we were well pleased with what we got. The menu is extensive and there is certainly something for everyone on it. We started with beer, nice and cold and refreshing on this very hot day, and moved on to wine.

The bill was €42.60 for two and included dessert. This was not "haute cuisine" but it was good tasty food, well served and in a pleasant environment. In terms of value for money we thought it was excellent. Of course the "cheap meal" voucher was just for a dish of the day so it was no good to us at all but that did not really matter as we discovered that the discount being offered was actually less than €1!
