“SOMETHING UNIQUE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

Visited Ramos Pinto one the many wine/port houses across the river from Porto. Ramos Pinto is less well known in the US so it had our attention right away. The tour consisted of an introduction by an English speaking guide. Our group had about 20 people in it.
One of the unique features of the tour was the office of Ramos Pinto the way it appeared in the early 20th century. The guide also provided several stories about Pinto's unique marketing ideas.

Then it was onto the cellar and another brief presentation on the production of port and the different types produced. The good part of the tour was the time duration. It lasted 35 / 40 minutes and while it was informative it wasn't so technical or overbearing that you became bored.

At the conclusion there was a tasting along with the ability to purchase. We selected 2 bottles and the staff was very helpful packing them in a wine bottle "skin" as protection in our luggage

It was a nice hour to spend learning more about a true Portuguese product

“Fabulous - byo cheese”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

We were recommended by our host. It is the only port cellar we have visited so far. Fabulous setting, service, tastings. You could spend hours there with bread & cheese. But only food available are beautiful chocolates. So next time, bring your own bread & cheese. Later same day I found same chocolates in Rua da Flores (on the left as you descend from the amazing Sao Bento train station) - stand up Nespresso espresso + chocolate for one euro.

“Nice tasting but not the best!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

We didn't have time for the tour (we made it there right before closing) but we did do 2 Port tastings. They provide little "flash cards" to explain how to taste and what you are tasting and they have a nice chocolate bar, which is a good idea because it goes well with the port wines!
It was nice overall, but not a very personalized experience.

“Cool tasting room and wonderful tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

The tour was really nice because we got to visit the old "office" which had a bunch of cool artifacts before going into the lodge. This is different from most of the other lodge tours. Just wish we had been allowed to take pictures in the office. The tasting room is nice and relaxed where you can enjoy the tastings provided or purchase extra.

“Wonderful place for a relaxed tasting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

We chose Ramos Pinto simply because we liked the look of the building from across the River and we wanted to try a name we had never seen available at home. We were in for a lovely surprise.
The staff were welcoming and the woman at the front desk who prepared our tasting spoke perfect English and French. The tasting area was comfortable and we bought a few delicious and reasonably priced chocolates to have as well.

The tasting itself was very generous for 10E and the wines were fabulous- our only regret was that we didn't have any whites in the tasting we chose. If you are in a larger group I'd recommend getting the cheaper tasting as well to share so that you can taste the full range.

The staff member who served us told us what each glass was and gave us a set of note cards that gave more details and explanation in multiple languages and included a space on the back for your own tasting notes if you'd like. We enjoyed being left alone to casually enjoy our tasting and opted not to do the tour.

The decor was fun as well, the old posters from the first half of the 20th century were fun to look at. And of course clean toilets too.

Highly recommended!
