“From silver hair to sleeves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

A cool spot downtown. Hear some Bublé or Sade. A comfortable place for everyone from the sleeved biker type to the silver-haired concert goer; both in happy attendance on this evening. The bruschetta tastes like summertime and the Bucatini Luce is not to be missed.

“Lively and Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We had dinner here Friday night and it was fantastic, from the service, to the food and drinks, perfection. Atmosphere was lively, we, by chance, even had our new neighbors seated next to us at the bar. Tyson, bartender and our server was on top of it, he made our night. We had the Lamb and the Hunter Sausage, done just right by the Chef. We have 2 restaurants we can always count on in downtown Norfolk, and this is one of them. We will be back!

“Interesting Dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

My wife and I had dinner here before seeing a show at Chrysler. I had called earlier in the week to make a reservation but they do not accept reservations nor do they have a call ahead. We arrived just before 6:00 on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is very small, It has four high table four tops and a couple of regular two tops and four tops. There is also room at the bar and at bench dining at the front windows. An early arrival is recommended, the place filled up very quickly. Max appears to be about 35-40 diners. We sat at the bar rather than at the two top at the back that overlooks the open kitchen. We shared a delicious bruschetta - several large pieces of bread with lots of fresh tomatoes. the flavor was good and not overpowering with garlic. Luce is billed as an Italian restaurant but the fare is somewhat different from the usual Italian. I had Pesci Franny - the grouper as described by BeachHokie below. It was delicious. My wife had Buscantini Luce, a chicken and pasta dish which she enjoyed. The dessert menu is still a work in progress, the only one available was a pair of cannolis that were "on the house". Crispy and very good. We will return to try other menu items.

“Still working out the kinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Luce has been open for about a week, so they're still finding their stride. Such as having no coffee or espresso. What's up with that?

The food, however, is very good. Especially the tuna with creamy polenta. The tuna comes served under marinara with lots of garlic and capers. Bursting with rich, fresh zing. The clams with squid ink linguini is also quite tasty.

Now for the misses. I've already mentioned the no coffee thing. Then there's the no bread thing. Have you ever been to an Italian restaurant that didn't have bread. It's not that you have to order bread separately. No. no. They DON'T HAVE BREAD. What?!

The clams were swimming in a rich, flavorful juice that couldn't be sopped up and enjoyed with a crispy chuck of bread.

Next time, we'll bring our own loaf of bread and a canteen of coffee.

Luce also doesn't offer dessert, but complementary cannolis are wonderful.

“Wonderful first experience at Luce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

After attending an art exhibit, my friend and I stopped in for an early dinner. Fortuitously, the chardonnay we selected happened to be on special for $1 a glass less than the usual price. The grouper sauteed with Frangelico and toasted walnuts over cannellini beans with pancetta was a melange of awesome flavors.
Enjoyed the food and the ambience. My only recommendation: Luce needs to serve a signature bread of some sort. An Italian restaurant that does not serve bread either before or with the dinner is missing a key ingredient for a truly successful meal. I hope as the restaurant matures, they will figure this out. WIll definitely visit again.
