“Delicious Lunch at 219”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We had a great experience at 219. There are very few restaurants open for lunch in Norfolk but this one is a gem. The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was fabulous and the wine list offered affordable choices. Our server Ryan was attentive and helpful and even offered suggestions for restaurants for the next leg of our trip to Virginia Beach.

“Never disappointed here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

I've eaten here a few times now, and each experience has been positive. The menu is varied and interesting. The food is good. The service is good. The atmosphere is comfortable. You won't pay an arm and a leg. We've never had trouble getting a table. If you find yourself looking for a nice dinner in downtown Norfolk, this is a good place to try.

“If we had stopped at the salad I'd give it 5 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

So many great reviews we had to give it a try. Rating restaurants almost entirely on the merits of its food I'm afraid we found 219 only average, especially for the price. The server mentioned their specialties so i ordered the fried green tomato salad, which was very very good. The crab cake entree? Not so much. My husband got the flounder which was 2 huge filets of fish, your average potato and a few vegetables. The server was very attentive, took his job very seriously. Why do places need to crank the AC so high??? Pretty cold interior. Bring a sweater!

“Pleasant Atmosphere, Great Sunday Brunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

We decided to combine a Woody Allen movie with Sunday Brunch at downtown Norfolk's 219 Bistro. We had been to 219 once before, a few years ago, and earlier found it to be a little ragged in its decor and serving staff. But the restaurant has been completely redesigned since then, has overhauled and improved its menu tremendously, and has turned its serving staff into a very pleasant and knowledgable group. A very different, and much improved, american bistro.

We chose to visit for Sunday Brunch, which means there is a "Special Brunch Menu," and, importantly, a really cool Bloody Mary "bar," where you complete making your own Bloody Mary from a large assortment of mixes and ingredients, including bacon (?). Additionally, there are "special" brunch prices on other drinks. The menu is very much a bistro menu, with a good assortment of brunch favorites, most prepared with a creative twist. Eggs Benedict are served with crabcakes rather than ham, and are delicious. I couldn't resist their meatloaf (what? on a brunch menu?), which was served with fresh mashed potatoes and bluelake green beans, perfecly steamed. The meatloaf was lightly seasoned with fresh onion, basil and oregano, and was even better than my own. All this wonderful food, prepared with a light and creative touch, combined with equally unique and creative drink choices --- an unbeatable combination for a wonderful brunch experience.

After a wonderful brunch, a great Woody Allen movie. Great day!
