“Authentic Korean Food at a Reasonable Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

The food was excellent. Two of us had the bibimbap and the other had the bulgogi. It was delicious and the bill was around $55 for the three of us. The waiter brought cold ginger tea when we were finished, which was delicious, to cleanse our palate.

“Best Korean BBQ in Hampton Roads, top 5 restaurant in Norfolk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

Easily one of the top five best restaurants in Norfolk and probably the most authentic Korean Barbecue Restaurant in all of Hampton Roads, if not Virginia. Don't be fooled by the shabby exterior or the shabby sign, the interior is nice. The several times we have eaten here we have noticed a very high percentage of patrons are first generation immigrants from Korea, that is a good sign of authenticity.

A hand made sign on the door says it all, "No Public Restrooms, No Buffet". The first part is that the area across from Military Circle Mall is not quite the best of areas. This restaurant is located between "The Dump" (furniture store) and a run down "Ramada Inn" that might have been nice in the 1980s. Which coincidentally was the heyday of "The China Garden" restaurant that was located at Military Mall. Around 2004 after struggling financially for years "The China Garden" went the death kneel that most Asian restaurants have gone; buffet. If they can't do quality they go quantity . . This is where the handmade sign on the door says "NO Buffet" means you are in for quality! This is not your average asain restaurant.

Because when we get to eat out we eat with children we are limited to the restaurant portion of the restaurant. The Barbecue section requires special hoods over each of the serving areas because you cook your own food over real wood coal chunks (a hazard with small children). Had I not seen the solid wood coal chunks being brought out in a bucket I would have had doubts. Eating Korean is easy for those who are fearful of hot spicy food, just avoid anything red. The food is quite simply amazing, better than the pictures in the menu, see the pictures taken. A meal is quite affordable in the $15 to $30 range depending on drinks and appetizers. I recommend the kimchee soup and the beef ribs, both pictured.
