I called the property directly and reserved the Wishing Oak suite a few weeks before our wedding night. We informed the innkeeper that we would be checking in late, which they assured us would not be a problem. When my wife and I arrived at close to midnight we retrieved our room key from a small lockbox inside the door and made our way up to the room. It was spacious and immaculate to say the least, and it had a very classic appeal--- not too many frills or flower print adourning every surface. This is a nice B&B that doesn't make you feel like you're staying the night in your grandparents' guest room. The bathroom was equally large and accomodating, and the jacuzzi tub (not really shown on the website) was huge and worked very well (I'm 6'11" and we both fit very comfortably with room to spare). Breakfast was also wonderful. The on-site chef is great, and we had a chance to chat with the other couples and Bob Epstein, the innkeeper, who is a very well-traveled and interesting person. Sorry to say that we didn't have the chance to sample the afternoon wine and cheese, but as you can imagine that was a very busy time for us! This was the perfect end to our wedding weekend. If you live in the area and are looking for a romantic getaway or are staying downtown but want to avoid the large-scale commercial hotels, this is the place. Located in downtown Norfolk and minutes away from Ghent, and they will lend you bicycles to get around (my preferred method of travel in Ghent). Thanks to Bob and all the staff for a wonderful stay.
