“Pleasantly Surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

I am wary of the old Holiday Inn brand so I tend to stay at HIE's instead. We were on the way down to OBX and stayed here for the night. Hotel and room was clean and comfortable. The jacuzzi was not working which was a real bummer, but the pool was nice. Kids enjoyed it. Staff was friendly. Elevators were really slow, sort of annoying. Would stay there again. Convienent location on and off highways lots of places to eat etc. Also, room noise was minimal.

Thank your for giving the Holiday Inn Norfolk a chance. We appreciate your feedback and are pleased we were able to meet your expectations. We have almost completed the Jacuzzi repairs and painting. So we are hopeful to have this back up and running soon.
The elevators are running a little slower than normal and we hope to have them looked at this week, while there are fewer guests. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that with these improvements, we will be your number one choice in the area.
Thank you,

Holiday Inn Norfolk Staff

I travel for a living. Staying here was a choice of location vice value. It was a good choice. Front desk was a pleasure. They are very friendly and professional. Restaurant was very good. The only issue was the water pressure in the rooms, almost non existant. Overall, I will stay here again.

I booked this hotel due to a work assigment. I have stayed at other Holiday INNs before but the this was the fist time in Norfolk. I was the week of 4th of July and its was the only place I could find with rooms all week. I would say its an OK place to stay not very many ammenities to chose from at the hotel It is also high in price for whaty you get. Other hotels in the aera are nicer and about the same price. The breakfast in the morning was not that great and it wasnt even served on weekend though that was strange. This place is ok if you just spending one night and gone in the morning I would spend any more time then that here.

Room Tip: Its ok for a one night stay

We chose this hotel since we had an early flight the next morning, and they advertised 24 hour airport shuttle service. I might have given it a "very good" status because the staff was friendly, the room clean and inviting, and the shuttle service was on time.

However, there was a rather odd feeling of desolation about the place. For starters, there just didn't seem to be many guests around. The main thing was the dining room was closed because there wasn't anyone to staff it. I will say the man who handled the bar was very good, and we, along with a few others, were able to get a decent meal there.

I'm not a big fan of airport hotels, but sometimes they are necessary. I think I would stay here again since it was more of an emotional reaction than any bad service on anyone's part.

Dear JN1975,
We understand that it is just as important to have a great emotional experience as it is to have a great overall experience. we do apologize for the dining options and the response that was provided to you. There is always a seat for dining in our Fountainside Cafe, so we fell short on this service to you.
If there is anything we can do to make it more inviting or comfortable on your next stay, please let us know. We really want to make sure you have a great experience and feel great about it as well.

This hotel was perfect. From the front desk to the restaurant, everyone was courteous, friendly and responsive. Would like to particularly compliment Allison in sales, Amber on the front desk, Tim in the maintenance department, Isiah, Tyesha and Lauren in the restaurant. All of these people were responsible for our wonderful stay. This hotel and its staff receives a well
deserved "excellent" rating from my wife and I. The management and attitude of the employees should be a model for all IHG properties.

We stayed at this hotel for my cousin's Bday party. Check in was great the front desk had 2 attendants but when we went to check out it was only 1 attendant and she did her job with ease but I'm sure it could get a little busy during check out as well as check in... the only problem I had with this hotel was the elevators, they are very SLOW... they have several and every last one of them are very slow.... by the time the elevators opened I had actually walked down 4 flights of stairs (I know this because my brothers decided to wait for the elevator instead of taking the stairs).... first time I ever used the shuttle at any hotel and I was quite impressed... I will look into the shuttle service for my next function.... the room was clean and welcoming... I liked the setup.... I will stay at this hotel again because it's real close to my cousin's house.....

Room Tip: If traveling in a group try and get all rooms on the same floor

Dear Justified44,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We apologize for the slow elevators. Our elevator company is trying to come up with solutions for faster return to the floors. The staff really enjoyed hosting cousin's birthday party and we hope next year, there will be another one. The sales and catering team specifically wanted to thank you all for your business and pass along birthday wishes to your cousin. When you do come back to the Holiday Inn Norfolk, we hope that you will stop into the Sales office and say hello.
Thank you,
Chrissy Buchanan

As stated in other reviews, lobby is nice and staff was friendly. The room was clean. I wasn't wild about the pillows (they aren't quite full size) but it was nice having them labeled as firm and soft. I did have slight mix-up with catering but that was resolved the first day and didn't have a problem for the next 2 days. The group lunches in the restaurant weren't bad.
