“Nice views, great jog along the water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

As someone who spends half their life on the road, the fitness center is always a major point for me. Medium to smallish sized, but very clean and pretty nicely equipped. Free weight area with up to 50 lb dumb bells, with 2 benches. Several treadmills, but why would you run inside with the hotel right on the river? Great jog just outside the hotel along the water and through the downtown area with lots of people out and about. Hotel restaurant has big windows overlooking the ship yard across the river. My other big consideration with with hotels is their breakfast. Very good here. (Relatively) cheap buffet, at $14 for the full buffet which includes omlettes made to order and Belgian Waffles. Waffles are made fresh, not just sitting in a warmer. Also, they are ordered through the server, so you don't have to stand around waiting for your food at the food station. I got both, and they were excellent. More upscale hotels would charge $20 plus for this type of buffet..... Also, late night dinner menu till 1 a.m. if you are a late night arrival. Though the outside of hotel is showing age, the inside is very nice, clean, and staff is friendly.

Room Tip: Upper floor for great views of downtown

Stayed there the weekend for a conference.
Pros: Very nice room. Had a King suite facing the water. My sister had a double with a balcony. It was great. The bed and the sheets were extremely comfortable. They have the fastest elevators. The place was completely sold out, I was on the 7th floor, and I never had a long wait for an elevator. The hotel was priced very reasonable.

Cons: 1 star removed because I couldn't get HD signal on my TV. Which meant no ESPN. 3 days, no ESPN, it was like living in the dark ages. Wifi was not great. We did eat in restaurant. The food was good, but extremely pricey for Norfolk. But everything else around the hotel is closed so you have to drive to eat something more reasonable. Unless you Valet, you are parking across the street in a garage.

Still I would recommend the property, but they have to get that HD fixed.

Room Tip: If you are a smoker, ask for a room with a balcony. I would suggest getting a waterside view. The v...

This property is in a great spot on the harbor and within walking distance of downtown Norfolk and the Waterside Mall, but it is showing it's age. They've done a decent job of maintenance but it's way overdue for an overhaul. Room doors are dented and scratched, carpeting is frayed and soiled and the lobby dull and unappealing. Unless you're a Starwood loyalist, the Marriott a couple blocks away is a much better option, especially if the prices are about the same.

Went on the Spirit of Norfolk cruise. Spent the night and was very pleased. Sheraton has been off my radar but was impressed. Had a corner room that overlooked the city. Huge room n beautiful view at night.

Great location and a clean room. Front desk was friendly at check in and the fitness center was clean and almost all in working order.
Their bar/restaurant had a nice view of the river and a good happy hour. My group arrived shortly after the happy hour had started. They only had two tables with customers, so the 4 of us decided to go to the empty bar. Once we ordered our drinks, the bartender disappeared. I went to the host and ask for some menus and waited. This was my second time at this hotel and they have been short staffed both times. Friendly service and the salmon was very good. I will return and try one of the great restaurants within walking distance. Vallet needed a little help with customer service. All of us have bad days, I understand.

The location of this hotel in downtown Norfolk seems like it would be in a good location but having stayed here several times I will say that the location is becoming less attractive for people looking for a nice place to stay. Immediately adjacent to the waterfront, the concrete area with benches in front and to the side seems to attract homeless people and could create a sense to someone of a lack of a secure area. The highway viaducts to the East offer areas where there are people fishing and possibly living as well.

The Outback stake house is gone, and the shopping center connected via a pedestrian walkway has no business in it whatsoever except a Hooters restaurant. There are several options within walking distance from the hotel but it seems to me that the city is not actively trying to make this more friendly to tourists or even people in the area.

The hotel itself is well kept in the public areas and about average in the room category. Amenities in the bathrooms include one small bottle of lotion and shampoo and a bar of soap. In comparison to many hotels this bathroom seems small to me by American standards.

The staff have always been friendly and accommodating, the location needs improvement though!

Room Tip: You may want to request a waterside room to watch the ship repair in the Elizabeth River and the lar...
