“Getting better...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Have stayed here several times on business. Rates fluctuate way too much to be my "go-to" Choice Hotel in Norfolk area. WiFi was slow on last stay, but treadmill was functional after an error code forced me to un-plug the unit and re-boot. It had been broken on two previous stays, which caused me to use another Choice Hotel in the area. Gotta have a treadmill, right?

Breakfast at this Sleep Inn is really a hit with the patrons. REAL scrambled eggs. Bacon. Sausage. GRITS!!!!! Biscuits & Gravy. And all the healthy stuff as well. Of course, it FREE. :)

All-in-all, it's actually a good value, and stays busy, it appears, with plenty of military-related visitors and contractors filling the rooms. Would recommend it as long as they keep up with the maintenence of the place.

Room Tip: This is in a fairly quiet setting quite a way off Northampton Blvd., but rooms on the EAST side are...

Fantastic Price for being so close to VA Beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable! Staff were nice and friendly! Didn't swim but the pool looked fun. There is no microwave in the room, but there is in the lobby. Rooms are ajoining and the walls are very very thin! It was hard to sleep when the guests next to us were talking or watching TV. I would suggest if you are verbally giving any sort of personal information in your room, to do it with a very small voice. Breakfast was a little disappointing...lots to offer, great variety, but very very greasy! Laudry rooms available, coin style. The washers were great, but the dryers definately need a good cleaning, lint traps and all, and probably because of this, doesn't dry very well. They also serve out-of-pocket dinner, didn't partake, but it smelt great!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

During our first day of a 4-night stay, the bathroom lighting fixture fell out of the ceiling and struck my head (room 128). The light/fan fixture was only on seconds before falling. My wife took the unit down to the front desk, while I tended to my head. The desk was very apologetic and had me fill out an accident report. They asked me if I needed an ambulance or a doctor. Since I was not bleeding, I turned down the ambulance. I did develop a lump and a headache. We asked to move our room, since we had a defective bathroom. We were given room 124, which is right next to a utility room. We had a bad sleep, since noises came from the utility room all night.

The manager apologized the next day and offered to take off the charge for two of our 4 nights. We asked to change our room again and were given room 134. This room was much quieter and the bathroom light fixture stayed in the ceiling.

One thing I noticed in the 3 rooms we stayed in was that the carpet was unraveling and torn in multiple spots in all of the rooms. There was also loose wallpaper and mirrors that looked like they were purchased at a used furniture store. Most of the problems were cosmetic and spending a few dollars and some time could be fixed.

I did like the breakfast (hot meals). The down side was the eating area is shared with Quality Inn and was crowded at times.

Room Tip: Don't get room 124 on the first floor. It is next to a noisy utility room. Also make sure they...

We ended up having to stay here during Hurricane Sandy and were most impresssed by the staff, whom we commend for their professionalism and hospitality. Our double room faced a courtyard and had very high ceilings. The hotel itself was far nicer than we expected. The room had a fridge and was very clean and well-decorated with new looking decor. Loved the lay out of this hotel. It is connected to another hotel-Quality Inn and is a convention hotel. It had a small but well-stocked convenience store, and a restaurant and as previous posters have remarked, the best-stocked free breakfast we've ever seen at a Choice Hotel. Delicious! We felt pent up during the storm so enjoyed walking tot eh front desk for coffe and down the long hallways for a stretch and we also utilized the work out center and wanted to try out the indoor pool. They are a pet friendly hotel, who offered free dog biscuits for the taking. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful! Thank you so much for helping us feel comfortable during a rough two days! Note: Many Utility trucks from out of the area stayed here, too.

Room Tip: If travelling through Virginia Beach/Norfolk, this could be a good hotel pick--just know it is not i...

This is a reasonably clean and comfortable hotel that is convenient to Norfolk, Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. The room was nice, and the hot breakfats was the best I have ever had at a Choice Brand hotel. I would certainly stay here again.

We paid $89 plus tax for a night stay there during labor day weekend, which was an okay price, but for $20 more I could probably get a hotel much closer to the beach. When you book your hotel, think of travel costs to the beach and parking there ($20 a day), because it adds up and staying at the beach might be the same price as staying further away.
The hotel was okay. I did not like that I could smell smoke in the lobby and in the stairs....No elevator as well. They did provide free breakfast but it took me an hour in the line to get to it....The AC in the room was also very loud. Otherwise, I have no complains. I would stay on the beach next time though, it's a better vacation experience, than staying here.

Thank you for your comments and for staying with us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes we are close enough to make traveling to the beach convenient and less costly. On a busy weekend the cost of a beach room might be as much as 50% higher. Thanks again for stay at the Lake Wright.
