“Getting a little ragged, needs some upkeep, big summer rate jump!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

Typical Choice hotel with 1980's decor. Could stand a facelift and things like new televisions, bathroom fixtures, etc. Nice, very large indoor pool if you are in to bathing with strangers. I have stayed at this hotel three times in the past few months. In the winter months, the AARP rate was $58 on the Choice website. In June, the rate jacked up to $80.10. It's 20 miles from the beach, fercrisakes!
The fitness room is a joke. The air conditioner was broke. The treadmill and stair-stepper have been inoperable for months, each time the front desk clerk has promised it would be fixed the next time. They still advertise they have a fitness room on the choice website. Not everyone likes to work out on a reclining bike. Disappointed that they fail to fix these things, and I suspect it is an indication of their overall attitude toward creating an exemplary hotel.

Hot breakfast was actually pretty good! The restaurant was deserted at dinner time.

I would suggest there are other better choices for business people in the area. Some Choice-affiliated, some not.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the elevator. Lots of noise from late-night guests.

Thank you for your comments both positive and negative. Sorry about the fitness center, those pieces of equipment have to be repaired by outside sources and are not always as timely as needed.
We are indeed a vacation destination and demand does affect prices at all hotels in the area. We do thank you for staying with us and hope we will see you again.

Well we checked in at 12:30 last night and Romeo was very friendly and courteous and helpful... When we come in the room it was small... but clean and neat..and we are not planning on spending much time other than sleeping in our room... Beds were comfortable last night and sheets were clean!!!! So far so good... very economical.. and will finish out the weekend here...I was a little nervous when I read the reviews because you never know what you are getting when you book online... but so far we are pleased...Take all the reviews with a grain of salt... And any hotel I have ever been in you can hear doors open and close all night long... so ...

For a budget hotel, it was pretty good. We took the kiddos and went on an impromptu trip to see OpSail and Harborfest. Hotel was clean, easy to find and had what we needed.

Ants were a bit of an issue in the room, but that is what happens when you have food in and out of rooms. After reading some reviews pre-trip, I did do a thorough bedbug check (none there).

Breakfast buffet. What can I say? It made my preteen son's trip. :-) Waffles, eggs, meat, potatos, cereal, fruit--much more variety than expected.

Thank you staying with us, we appreciate your comments and are glad to have been of service. We also hope your enjoyed OpSail 2012. You are so right about ants in hotels, they are transported in more than being home grown. It does keep the Orkin men busy in the spring and early summer. Again, thanks for traveling and stay with us, hope to see you again.

Checked in to the hotel with $250 in a bank envelope. Bag NEVER left the room. Left for lunch @ 1:30 & returned @ 4:30 to find $100 missing! After talking to management they assured me that they had talked to the house keeper & she said she didn't steal anything. Um yeah .... Thieves usually are honest trust worthy people. Explain to me where the money went to?!?!

We are indeed sorry you had a such an experience with us. We do investigate all such complaints and have sworn officers as security to assist in maintaining the security of our property and our guest. We found no evidence of wrong doing, however we can pursue this further if you wish. Please call the hotel if you would like to.

The walls were thin so I could hear everything in the neighboring rooms. The pool was disgusting even though there was a sign on the wall that it passed inspection that day, I would love to know who inspects the pool. The comforter on the bed had a strong syrup smell to it so I'm guessing it had not been washed in between guests.

We stayed here for 2 nights. We enjoyed our stay and will be back again. Here are some points to consider:
Pros:
- close to beaches, about a 7-10min drive
- room was small but very clean and cozy, very comfortable beds
- excellent breakfast, eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes, waggles, muffins, danish, bagels, toast, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, juice, tea, coffee, and more
- plenty of parking space
- many restaurants and shopping nearby
- AC worked well, the room stayed dry and cool
- refrigerator in the room

Cons:
- the walls are thin, if your neighbors are too loud, I can see how it could be a problem
- the fitness room had no AC, so at 90 degrees outside it was impossible to spend more than 5 min there
- the rooms are on a small side

Overall, at the rate that you pay, it is a great deal. We stayed at many different hotels all over US and Europe, and this hotel was definitely one of the best budget places we have seen. We can't wait to go back.

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate you staying with us. The AC in the fitness center has been fixed. On a busy weekend, we could not fix them all. Thanks again, we look forward to have you back.

Since, once again, we didnt have a reservation on a holiday weekend we had to take what we could get. The only reason we gave this hotel an average rating is because they gave us our next night for $49.99. When we arrived the elevator was out and our room was on the 3rd floor. There were fire engines and an ambulance in the driveway...no concern right now...we enter the lobby and it smells of body odor but the front desk employees were very good and got us on our way. The only thing available was a king smoking room. When we entered the room it smelled like piney musty but once we got the air flowing it smelled much better. My husband has asthma and it didnt bother him so we stayed. The rooms were clean and quiet but small. The shower could fit 2 easily! They had no tub. We had a slight concern with the doors opening and shutting all night long across the hall but our door lock worked well. The breakfast in the morning was very nice and this hotel is only 11 miles from VA beach and for $160.00 for both nights we stayed and we really liked the location! When we came back from the beach another ambulance and firetruck...we still dont know why they keep coming...we enjoyed another quiet night at the pool with cocktails and in the morning another ambulance and fire truck and before we left just an ambulance...we still do not know what this was about but there was a woman sitting on the bench out front of the lobby for quite a while and my husband said "she looks like she's been ridden hard and put away wet a few times"...LOL...everything was kinda fishy but the location and price were great for a holiday weekend.

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate your staying with us. As you you know it was a busy weekend and we apologize if we failed in anyway. A note on the ambulance, one guest called them 3 times during her stay, no other reason. Please join us again and thanks for stay at the Lake Wright hotels.
