“The mighty defense”

The world's largest naval station. The base houses the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces. It is the hub for Navy logistics going to the European and Central Command theaters of operations, and to the Caribbean.

“Great tour of the largest Naval Base in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Took the one hour tour on a luxury bus with a Petty Officer. 28 ships were docked that day including an attack sub and an aircraft carrier. $10 for adults and $5 for children. Same security you would encounter at the airport to get on the tour.

“Interesting tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

It is a bus tour through the naval base. You need to go to the visitor centre, where there is a car park.
You need to show your passport to officials and to pass through a metal detector before getting on the bus.
During the tour there is a soldier that explains everything about buildings, navy and air fleet. It is interesting, because this is the biggest military base.

“Total Let Down - No Tour Bus Showed Up”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We were very excited to see the base and hopefully inspire our kids. We carefully checked the times hours of operation and called the phone numbers listed of the Tidewater Tours website and drove to Norfolk on Sunday, August 11. Sadly, the tour office was closed and no tour buses showed up. There were many other tourists waiting hopefully for someone to show up, but no one did. We found a sign on one of the doors stating that there had been a power outage on Sat., Aug 10 and that the tours would resume on Sun., Aug. 11. Clearly they did not. It would have been greatly appreciated by all of the families if the website or phone message had been updated to inform visitors of a closure. Thank goodness we didn't show up to this note on the door on Saturday and return to the abandoned office again on Sunday.

“Awesome Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

The tour was fantastic. Very informative and interesting. Only about 45 min long but the visitor center also had some good material to read and learn more about the navy.
