I am sitting in reception at the Hotel Pinhal do Sol in Quarteira using my own laptop but connecting to the internet via the Hotel's free WiFi service. The service is free here and in the bar, though for some reason nobody could fathom why the bar area Wifi only worked 2 days of our 7 yet in the reception area it worked all the time - weird!
The Pinhal do Sol is an attractive two storey hotel with about 54 rooms. It is situated about 10 minutes from the small seaside town of Quarteira and about 15 minutes from the marina town of Vilamoura. Neither of these places offer much "life" so if you want a quiet holiday in the sun this is perfect. About 45 minutes away is the more upbeat town of Albufeira.
The hotel run regular free mini buses to Quarteira and Vilamoura. If you take the free bus to Quarteira you can then get a regular bus (cost 4.20 euro) to Albufeira, where there is nightlife as well as more shops and other amenities.
Hotel Pinhal do Sol has some of the nicest staff (most of them also speak exceptionally good English) you could ever ask for, nothing was too much trouble and they were always ready to help with a smile, no grumpys to upset your holiday.
There are 2 swimming pools, one at each end of the hotel, tennis courts, plus a small play area for children, though otherwise there is not a lot for youngsters to do here. On our week here I would put the average age of holidaymaker at about 50, mostly people who just wanted a quiet vacation.
The rooms are a good size and kept very clean, as is the hotel all over. The bar is small for the number of guests but there are plenty of seats and tables outside, so with the lovely Portuguese weather sitting outside, even at night, is pleasant. The bar has some entertainment every other evening and a large screen TV which showed a lot of sport - most English premiershipo games were screened - but with Portuguese commentary so you could listen to the entertainment while watching ther football, everybody thus kept happy.
Food: Breakfast and Lunch are self service buffet, Dinner is also buffet but the main meal is served by the chef. There is plenty of food, generally 3 choices of fish, chicken or meat (pork, beef, veal) with chips, potatoes, vegetables and rice. There were also some fruit, cakes and a small salad selection which was quite poor and nothing on show for vegetarians, I suppose special consideration would have been made if one had asked - but who likes to have to ask at every meal ? - This is one of my reasons for giving 4 stars and not 5 for the hotel. Another reason is that the all-inclusive stops each night at 10.00pm (the only place I have been to where thiere has been a time limit on the bar other than closing time).
The main complaint I heard was about the walk for meals and to get drinks from the far end of the hotel, people saying it was taking them 10-20 minutes. I have to be fair and say my wife and I were in a room just above and behind reception but, and I have trouble walking, we decided to amble down to the far end to see just how far it was and it only took us about 5 minutes to get there moving quite slowly. I can understand the nuiscance of having nowhere there to get drinks though, especially as there is a pool and surrounding sun area where you would think drinks would be available.
We had a superior room which came with a few extras (see below tips) but I believe all rooms have air conditioning and a small television, bath and shower; the superior room also had a bidet
Overall Pinhal do Sol is a very clean, very friendly, very nice place to spend a week in the sun.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a superior room so you ge a kettle, fridge, iron, ironing board. Also ask for a ro...

Just returned from the pinhal do sol! I did read the reviews before we went so i kinda knew what to expect. We went as a family and we did find that some of the staff quite rude . I wouldnt say this is a family hotel at all as the childern get told off for being to loud(told to be quiet in bar area)The food is really not up to much. There is nothing but chips rice salad 2 meats and two fish which isnt alot seen as we was all inlcuvise. The drinks are watered down so very hard to get drunk and after 10 you will have to start paying for watered down drinks:S The mini buses are good tho so you can get out and around . We had room 228 which wasnt what we was expecting as it didnt have a bedroom(dont get this room if someone snores) All in all i prob would return if i got a cheap deal!!!!!

Room Tip: Not room 228 its at least 6 mins walk from reception and hasnt got a bedroom

The hotel is a long way out of the town and to compensate there is a mini bus that takes you to nearby Quarteria or Villamoria. The rooms are very basic nothing fancy but clean.DO NOT GO HERE if you like good food we were all inclusive but ended up going out to eat most days. The entertainment is no existent with one night a man playing on a keyboard who perhaps should have practised a bit more at home before being let out on the public and one night Kareoke where the host did all the singing. The rest of the time it was the tv with football on all the time. There is nothing for the children except the swimming pool and some old swings.

Room Tip: Select another hotel there are a lot of better ones for the same price

this was a quite and relaxing break and we really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was good more variety would have been good but as it was low season we couldn't complain. the bubbly at breakfast is allways a welcome treat. The rooms are cleaned every day. the cleaners do a great job and we where impressed at how clean the rooms where and the toilets by the bar and pool. There is a free minibus to the local towns and beach. The only downside was the all inclusive finished at 10pm \9most hotels we have been in finish between 11 and midnight) that being said we still had a great time and met some lovely people.
would definatly go back again.

We went to this hotel two years ago on a bed & brteakfast basis because we were there for a family wedding and eating out most of the time. This time we went all inclusive and were amazed at all that was included. All meal, obviously, but the drinks were not only 'local wine and beers' of many AI deals but practically anything you wanted. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough to be helpful. They were fun people too and when one waitress found out I knew a few words in Portuguese we had a running gag where she said 'Sorry I don't speak English' to make me try harder to use what little I had in Portuguese. The hotel is on the very edge of Quarteira and that may put some people off but with the regular shuttle minibuses to the town centre (where you can get local buses around the area) and to Villamoura you are soon there. If you're anyway active you can actually walk to the beach in 30 to 40 minutes and even all the way from Villamoura Marina in about three hours. (Can't be exact as we looked in all the shops and several bars along the way). Aquashowpark is ten minutes walk inland too, an enormous water slide adventure park but not open until June. Food is not a la carte but there is enough of a range avilable to satisfy most people's tastes. If you want a change there are several cafés and restaurants nearby. The bar overlooks the swimming pool and children's splash pool and play area and there is also a tennis court so there is much to entertain you. Speaking of which there are often visiting entertainers in the bar in the evening so again you don't have to go into town for entertainment if you'd rather relax in your home from home.

Room Tip: Good size family room available if required - 3 beds in main room and 2 in an curtained off annexe
