Charming hotel within the walls of Marostica a jewel of a town north of Padua. Airy rooms, private no charge parking, good breakfast and central location in the northern part of the Veneto. Best of all the most friendly and helpful personnel you will find anywhere.
Heartily recommended.
This hotel is an absolute gem, and is ideal for exploring the Palladio villas in the area. Large airy, but simple rooms with great bathrooms, beds extremely comfortable. Very helpful staff, I wandered down to the breakfast area at 7.30am and asked for some tea to bring up to the bedroom and two great pots of tea were instantly produced. Our bottles of prosecco were chilled in the kitchen refrigerator. Breakfast, at only about a euro more than a cup of coffee in Venice was perfect. More than enough to eat and enjoy sitting on the outside terrace. But the real winner was Monica, one of the owners. She spent ages advising us on what villas to visit and when they are open, they all have different hours and days that they are open. Monica could not have gone to more trouble to look after us so well. She is a licensed guide. If I was to do the trip again, I would employ Monica for the day to take us around the villas, she can get into villas not generally open to the public and she knows all the back roads to avoid the traffic. She recommended Osteria Madonnetta for dinner, within walking distance, family run and great fun. The owner's son is a great expert on the local wines.
Go to this Inn and you will not regret it!
The hotel is centrally located in the small historic town of Marostica which nestles on the northern edge of the Veneto plain and at the base of the foothills which eventually become the Dolomites. The hotel is in the old walled part of the town and is very quiet at night. We stayed there as preparations were being made for the biannual human chess game in the nearby main square.
The hotel has been renovated and our bedroom was spacious and comfortable . The bathroom was modern and well equipped with a large and highly effective shower. The hotel has its own car park which is quite unusual for such a central location.
The hotel's team was most helpful. Monica, the owner, is also a tour guide and gave us helpful advice about touring in the Veneto. One of her colleagues recommended a pre-dinner half hour walk to the Castello Superiore above the town and back. In the event, we spent at least half an hour absorbing the spectacular sunset view over the Veneto plain from the Castello and a further two hours enjoying an excellent open air dinner with lights twinkling below us across the plain. We finally picked our way back down the track, our only companions being some rather surprised baby donkeys.
Marostica was ideally located for visiting the northern part of the Veneto and as a stopping point before travelling up the Valsugana to the Alto Adige. We would certailnly return to the Due Mori on another visit to the area.
We found this hotel in an issue of the Sunday Times in July, just as we were planning our holiday in Italy for the autumn. It was reported as one of the best 20 hotels in Europe for good value for money, and what a discovery! We wanted to visit Verona, Venice and other cities in the Veneto. Without this signal we would never have discovered the small town of Marostica, a very special jewel, cosy town and strategic location to visit the Veneto.
It 'a small town, quiet and perfect dimension for children, fundamental for us since we were travelling with a couple of friends with a total of 5 children to follow.
In the hotel there are no suites, so we booked a double room in which were added 2 beds for our children – this to give you the idea of the size of the rooms! Our friends got two rooms. The hotel has only a few rooms and everything is very clean and comfortable. It's very easy to settle down and feel almost at home, the couple who runs the hotel is nice and always available to solve every little issue: he followed us to the pharmacy to help us with the language, she always helped us to plan our daily tours. Being a tour guide she always had the good tip. We were guided to the cheapest car parks, we were advised which were the right museum or places to visit with the children and helped out if we needed any further information. One day she even called the owner of a villa by Palladio who actually to let us in for a very private view: only us! Unfortunately, during our stay the restaurant was closed, but the reception staff (all of them speaks English) has always shown us where to go to dinner: nice places, where we could taste real Italian cooking at very reasonable prices!
