“The perfect place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We got in touch with Silvia (who owns this place) by visiting their website when we started planning our wedding. And from the first mail we got, we knew that this was people who really wanted to do everything to make sure our special day would be perfect. The decision was not difficult to make, and in September 2013 we went to La Ghiandaia to celebrate our wedding with our closest friends and family. We rented the whole place for 4 days, and were 15 adults and 3 kids. It was a perfect amount of guests, so everybody could have their privacy and the kids could sleep where they wanted to. The weather was lovely, and we enoyed the sun, the pool and the beautiful surroundings. This really is a place for piece and relaxation, and the breathtaking view makes you feel a little closer to heaven. The first evening our dearest hosts Silvia and Luca prepared a 3-course meal for us, and wow (!) it was sooo good! The desert was heavenly! Everybody enjoyed it and we got the Italian feeling right away! The next day we had wine-tasting on our program and our guide Sergio took us out to see the beautiful places nearby and taste some really nice wine. It was a great experience, and from La Ghiandaia you can visit a lot of nice places in only a short time:-) In the evening we arranged a BBQ and had a good time with music, table tennis and good wine from the farm next to La Ghiandaia.

Saturday was the day of the wedding, and with a lot of help from Silvia and Luca the day was just as perfect as we hoped for. The food was exceptional and from another world! 5 courses with Italian love! Pasta, tomatosoup, cheese, olives, ham, pork, and panna cotta among others! Everything prepared by the two masterchefs who runs this place!

Sunday we had some quiet hours and in the afternoon we went to Greve and the wine festival. Crowdy and hot, but fun and a LOT of wine to taste! On the way back we stopped in Dudda for dinner, a nice and cozy place with very good food, although they had a little trouble with the service and language this evening...

Monday was the day of departure and it was really tough to say goodbye to this beautiful family, and their wonderful place! La Ghiandaia is truly rustique, full of small details and secrets and you'll discover new things every day. Every room has it's own carm and are named after it's style, It's really Italian country-style, and we loved it! Beautiful flowers, olive trees, birdsong, wineyards, green woods and the most loveable people! They'll do anything to make your stay memorable and we'll never forget all they did for us to make this trip so special and perfect. We love you!

We went to La Ghiandaia in May 2012 to celebrate our wedding. We rented the whole place for 20 adults and 10 kids and most of us stayed for a whole week. La Ghiandaia is truly rustique- not just built up to resemble rustique. Go to Sheraton if you want sleek, cool and elevator with music.
Hosts: Silvia and Luca. We love you. Hard working, decent and loveable people with their hearts in what they do. I cried when we left.
Service: Outstanding. Silvia and Luca could not possibly have been more helpful with every detail we asked about, they adviced us on every little thing we needed, they fixed and adjusted and suggested to meet our needs. We put together a 3 day program for our guests to ensure they would see, smell and taste a piece of Toscana. Luca took a group hiking, and he suggested a wine farm in his home town that we went to. Brilliant!
Food: Siliva and Luca made 3 meals for us: the rehearsal dinner in the wine cellar the night before the wedding, the wedding dinner and the brunch the day after the wedding. I am out of words. The lasagna for the rehearsal dinner was of another world. The wedding dinner (roasted pig) served outside was heavenly. The brunch was plentyful and tasteful (it's a shame but I think a lot of the guests weren't quite able to appreciate good food at that point, after the party, but it was really, really good!).
Surroundings: Like being inside a romantic movie. The photos will never do La Ghiandaia justice. It simply has to be experienced. The corners, the flowers, the small bits and pieces and details all over the property are neverending. There is a very nice pool, a soccer field and hiking possibilities.

Location: Although situated in the middle of a big forest, away from everything and a rocky drive from the main road (no problem what so ever driving here, it's just a bit bumpy), you're a short drive away from "everything". Drive to Firence, Siena, Greve. Or go by train from Figline to wherever you would like to go to.
In Figline there is a huge Coop, you can get everything you need there, and some more. It's just a short drive (15 minutes?) from La Ghiandaia.
Silvia and Luca care a lot about this place, and you are requiered to act respectfully. Luca brings out the true Italian temper if he sees you with a glass by the pool- because he doesn't want pieces of shattered glass all over the place. Go by their simple rules to help keep the place unspoiled and beautiful and you will have the best time ever.
As for the guest who complained about bugs in his review: you can't be serious. Really.

We, and all of our guests, had a brilliant and unforgettable time- I'm tearing up just writing this review. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Luca and Silvia for making it the time of our lifes <3

We spent two nights there. we really wanted to be high and isolated, and boy, did we get what we wished for...
The road is amazing! this place is high on a mountain. about 15 minutes drive from Greve, and its really isolated. the view is breath taking!
Silvia and Luca are beautiful people, and a great hosts with perfect English and really easy to communicate with.
our room (tourciz) was big, had its own balcony and a little kitchen.

the best is really the view, and also the location is nice, but, as said, for better or for worse- on a mountain (what a view!)

Don't take the breakfast- its just doesn't worth it, drive to Greve or even Duda (5 minutes, 1 nice restaurant) and have it there.
Do(!) buy their friends wine that they sell. its great and only cost 6 or 7 euros for 1 litre!

n.b- there was a family with 2 kids at the room on top of us. they drove us nuts! I would suggest to ask upfront what room r u getting, and who sleeps above u. sounds pitiful now, but wait when they wake u up at 6am...

We were initally planning on staying 3 nights but ended up staying 4, just because it was so tranquil and beautiful. This was in the begginning of September and during the Chianti festival in Greve in Chianti, which we would recommend to everyone. Lovely atmosphere, great wines and tasty food. Our time at La Ghiandaia was fantastic. Sylvia and Luca are the perfect hosts. They are incredibly knowledgeable of the area, make you feel at home and are a really inspirational couple. We couldn't recommend this place enough. We met some lovely people here, stayed in beautiful accomodation and were able to truly relax. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated, there is everything you need to make an Italian dinner and there is always local wine home brewed to be had from Sylvia and Luca.

Room Tip: The pink flat is great for a couple and the kitchen is slightly better equipped than in the blue fla...

We stayed here 5 years ago. With happy memories of the warm welcoming hosts, Sylvia and Luca, the ambiant accommodation and beautiful scenery, we returned bringing my mother with us.

I was thrilled that it was as delightful as I remembered. We stayed this time in the apartment "Valle." It was large, with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and probably the biggest bathroom I have ever seen.

The grounds are lush and verant with the addition of olive trees.

The location is wonderful because it is a true Tuscan farmhouse villa experience. You are not staying on a main road with traffic driving by. You are in a farmhouse where, when you look through the window, all you can see is rolling green hills, trees and the other odd farmhouse in the distance.

We had some wonderful meals going into any of the villages we visited and buying Salami and cheeses, a bottle of Chianti and then dining at night in our own private little outdoor covered table outside our apartment.

Sylvia and Luca went out of their way to assist us with our enquiries, make telephone calls on our behalf, even going so far as to personally attend an office and someone's home in relation to two different enquiries we had. We also found them very knowledgeable on restaurants and the local area.

To top it all off, our accommodation was exceptional value.

I recommend this agristurismo wholeheartedly. If you want a true Tuscan experience, do not hesitate to book this place. You will not regret it.

I loved my 5 day stay at La Ghiandaia. My room (the Rosa) was very comfortable and had everything I need. Everything was impeccably clean. After a day exploring the area, it was great to come home to make dinner to eat on my little terrace. However, I spent almost all of my time outside on the shared patio overlooking the spectacular mountain view.

Silvia and her family made me feel very welcome. They are lovely hosts! I really enjoyed talking to Silvia, her husband Luca, and especially her mother, Maria Teresa, all of whom speak excellent English.

It is about 20 minutes from Greve and 1.5 km up a private dirt road (with one rather scary hill), so you definitely escape into another magical world.

I loved every minute of my time at La Giandaia and would recommend it highly to all of my friends.

The views from the apartment were amazing and the accommodation was beautifully decorated. The hosts, Sylvia and Luca were friendly and helpfully, even booking our Uffizi tickets in advance for us. The village is quite close to Figline which is well located on the trainline from Florence to Arrezo (and Rome) which meant we could visit both Florence and the jousting festival in Arrezo. There is also beautiful countryside with plenty of hiking trails and of course great food, the restaurant in Dudda served excellent food and is only a short drive away. I wish we could have spent longer exploring the local area, one week was not enough.....

Room Tip: We stayed in the Valle apartment which was on the top floor, it was very spacious and had great view...
