“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

This Castello was the perfect spot for a vacation in Tuscany. The grounds and views were beautiful and it was very quiet and relaxing. The staff was very friendly. I would recommend attending the dinner and tour of the wine cellars, which includes a tasting of the wines they produce. The food was great and it was a very nice evening. The only negative comment I have to say is that the air conditioning in the room was not very powerful and was quite noisy, unless at the lowest setting. Aside from that, everything was great and I would definitely recommend staying here.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay with magnificent views of the surrounding area. Very accommodating staff who are very glad to help you. Room was super clean and Federica was very helpful to us all weekend.

We can't recommend highly enough the experience at Castello Vicchiomaggio. The mountaintop views are unparalleled, the rooms are spacious (and many include mini-kitchens), the gardens are stunning, and the infinity pool is posh.

We will be back to stay at Vicchiomaggio every time we're in the area, which, by the way, is located conveniently near many destinations.

If the castle is offering a special dinner during your stay, be sure to make reservations because the food and the experience is luxurious.

A "must" for any traveler planning time in the Chianti region of Italy.

Room Tip: Room hint: Some rooms overlook internal courtyard, while others look out over the mountains. Both ar...

I just arrived here by chance and got really surprised after few disappointing french and italian hotels.

At this moment, I'm tasting an excelent wine and perfect for a rainy day...

The view from my apartment is incredible! It is just on the top of a nice hill! That's why I could see it from far away...

I wish I could describe all I see right now.

I dont know any other place in Chianti (by the way, I noticed this castel is good rated only two minutes ago here by tripadvisor), but this one is enough, defnitely!!

Castello Vicchiomaggio is beautifully located and has the most stunning of views but despite this we found staying there a most disappointing experience. The rooms are reasonably well presented but they are extremely cold , even at the beginning of June . There are heaters in the room but they barely work and are insufficent to heat the rooms. There was also a heated towel rail in the bathroom but despite repeated requests they remained switched off . There were no tea or coffee facilities in our room and the TV gave access to only a handful of channels.
Worst of all though is the badly thought out security which left three of our party locked out and forced to sleep in their car. Walk out of some of the rooms without your key and there is simply no way back in. Do this after 10pm at night and you cannot raise anyone to come to your rescue. The coldest reception of all came from the manager/receptionist who refused to accept that there 24 hour phone line was not manned. It was not but she would not accept this. The locks on the various gates meant that the unfortunate locked out guests had to resort to scaling gates just to get into the car park to sleep in the car. Had these guests been elderly the consequences could have been dire as temperatures plummeted during the night. The wine maybe well thought of but there are many problems with the accommodation and reception that is in need or urgent attention. Until these are resolved I would recommend looking elsewhere .

Room Tip: Take plenty of warm clothing for the nights as well as a survival kit in case you are locked out of...

We spent a night doing the wine tour and having dinner and this place has some of the best olive oil we have ever had. We regret not buying some when we were there. The wine tour was excellent and the staff giving the tour was wonderful even after we were 30 minutes late to the tasting. Their Chianti Classico wine is the best I've tried.

Dinner: Was amazing. The pasta was al dente and the meat was so tender you could cut it with your fork.

We didn't stay the night but plan on doing that during our next trip to Tuscany.

This was a beautiful place to stay with comfortable, warm beds, nice new bathrooms and unbelievable views. The good thing to know about finding this place is that there is a hotel with a similar name outside Greve (Vinniomaggio) and that you need to go another kilometer or so to Greti to find Vicchiomaggio. Another helpful thing is that if you go in March, there aren't many tourists yet and many things are closed until April. Still, this was a magical place, as was all of Italy. Oh, also, when you rent a car to drive in Tuscany, it is almost always standard transmission and to get into reverse you have to push a button and pull up on the gear shift. This isn't explained and took us half a day to figure out!
