We stayed at this hotel in Greve for 4 nights in early July 2004. We found the experience to be quite mixed. The setting is quite charming. The Piazza is lovely and our room looked out right on the square. Of course, with that comes some noise. One of the reasons we stayed here, however, was that the room had air-conditioning. Unfortunately, the unit was not up to actually cooling the room and as a result, we needed to have the windows open at night to be comfortable. They also had the air-conditioner on some type of timer, which seemed very inconsistent. The bells ring every half hour and the piazza was quite active, even until 12 or 1 on a Monday night! After we complained on the first day, the staff let us use a fan, which helped. It seemed to be provided rather begrudgingly however. The swimming pool and area around it were lovely and well-kept. The rooms did not seem to be as cared for, although not awful. I was not happy when the desk clerk "fussed" at my husband for leaving crumbs on one of the pool area tables. I felt that they should not mention this or at least be as concerned with the cleanliness and comfort of the room. They did offer us a different room, but it had similar issues and was much smaller, so we stayed where we were. Our daughter slept in a loft area, with ladder-like stairs. She was fine with this, but the triple accomodation in the other room we were offered was some kind of chair that folded out to make a bed. I don't think it would have been very comfortable, so ask about that if you are seeking a triple. The breakfast provided was plentiful and with several choices, so we would rate it above average. They have a funny mynah bird! We had a fun time here, getting cheap wine and wonderful cheese at a "mom and pop" grocery two doors down. There is a good bakery right next door and one morning I woke at 4, hearing some noise from that shop, but mainly being distracted by the smells coming from the ovens. I ended up waiting for their store to open at 7 to get fresh bread for later. We will always treasure our experiences here, but to sum up feel the rooms are rather shabby and not maintained as well as they should be for the price.
